***** not to be outdone.....hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, and.....HA!
I just used your recipe to make the best calzones I ever had. I put tomato sauce, lots of ricotta, sauteed green peppers, meatballs, mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese. This is now my favorite recipe of all time! Thank you chef.
I lived in Germany for 28 years and we had a wonderful Italian restaurant in our town and they made the best calzone. The restaurant was called Toni's and he and his mom, dad, brothers and sisters made the best Italian food imaginable. Those were the days.
I really need to stop watching these video's in the middle of the night, when I don't have the ingredients and/or expertise to make the delectable delights I am watching being created. Borderline masochistic tbh.
Martin Moesel Same goes for tacos, burgers, soups, burritos, stromboli, and ice cream (yes, I've met weirdos who feel the need to use fork and knife for those foods).
***** Like I said: I've met weirdos who feel the need to use fork and knife with soups... or are you one of those weirdos and thus your comment meant to disagree that soup should be a jailable offense?
reminds me of a story from second grade my cafeteria was serving pizza and i automatically grabbed a fork, but then the fork's useless because it's, you know, pizza, but i decided to give it a use because uhhh and then some teacher came up to me and scolded me no one else remembers that
Hey, I just want to say thank you. It's this video right here, as well as my experience following it, that really inspired me to go from someone with a passive interest in cooking to someone who is constantly trying new recipes, challenging myself, and even making up new novel recipes of my own. This video, as well as your other videos, really helped me realize a new and very rewarding passion of mine, and for that I need to thank you.
Dear Chef John. I am 42 years old and my life has been filled with nothing but calzone failure and disappointment. That is until I watched this video today!. I cranked out 10 nearly perfect calzones this afternoon thanks to you. You also helped me with perfect polenta a while back. Thanks so much for your help!
‘Which reminds me. .use some parchment paper’. . .after the calzone has Cooked. . .can I love this guy any more? I hope Missus Chef John appreciates this dude.
Just wanted to say thank you. I made this last night and it was off the hook good. Took me back to my childhood when I had this at a local true Italian shop. So simple and so good.
I am a confessed calzone lover, got hooked on'em the first time I visited NYC in 1968. A Sauce on the Side restaurant recently opened in my home town and I really enjoy their calzone. Thank you for the recipe, can't waite to try my hand at it.
I just made these, and they were amazing! A small taste of home. I missed calzones, until now. It was so easy, I can make these anytime the craving strikes. Thank you.
***** Just as a fun fact, the ratios are different from country to country, which makes for a different consistency and a slightly different taste, according to people's preference. What every recipe has in common though is the overwhelming amount of sugar and fat with surprisingly small amounts of nuts and cocoa.
Chef John, I really enjoy watching your videos! When my mom was alive and I was a kid I used to ask her to "do a cooking show" while I would hang out with her in the kitchen. I've tried to make some of the things you've shown, and they turned out really nice. Thank you for sharing your creativity, your love of food, and yourself as well. 😊
Chef John I just found your videos (about a half hour ago) and already I see you're going to make me a slave to the kitchen, however I shall be creating some of the things I ate way back when in NY and loving it. So thank you. Now get yourself a tv show and let me DVR you (that sounds dirtier than I meant it to sorry).
Michael Lederman or you will be like the rest of us and note that his food looks delicious. Decide that you are going to make that. Realize all you have is cereal and suffer.
I recommend using a fork to seal the edges, I've made Calzones in a Pizzeria myself, and by using a fork you 1. do it fast 2. there's no excess dough, just pure flavor 3. makes it look all nice :)
Food Wishes Chef John, this was awesome. I love calzone and I love BBQ. I will have to make one filled with pulled pork or pulled chicken. This was great.
Gilbert Bishop He does that thing with his voice where it the vocal pitch starts lower and rises and is on a loop. Idk it's a little hard to listen too
Hayley Babin Nah. If you watch his older videos he much more monotone. He's definitely changing his inflections and such to be more interesting and lively.
Hayley Babin He could and he could not. I know some people talk differently when they talk about their passion. Like my husband is pretty meh most of the time but when talks about his MTG cards, he becomes a freaking little kid
When I lived in Beverly Massachusetts(Just north of Boston) there was a little Pizza place that made the best Calzones. I liked their Teriyaki calzone....it was sooooo good. I haven’t had one since 1998 when I moved to Fort Worth. There was sooo much great Italian food there, and sea food!😋😋😋
Calzones can totally sense fear. I usually make mine about twice the size of this and filled with sauce/veggies instead of cheese/meat. That sucker gets unwieldy. I've had moments of hesitation during the transfer in which the calzone tore itself apart to punish my doubt. Never again! Calzone vigilance!
Im the opposite . . . .i find his vocal stresses . . . . . distracting and discordant, so much so that i cant bring myself to subscribe. No doubt he is good at what he does but i find myself unable to endure an entire video.
Hey John. I made this for dinner today - before I spread some ricotta on my calzone, I wanted to taste it as is... And to my surprise, it was absolutely tasteless! I've never had it before. I was worried, but decided to go ahead with the recipe anyway. I'm glad I did, because this was easily the tastiest calzone we've ever had. It was just to die for. Thanks for this recipe! I will definitely make it again!
"A calzone can sense fear." I know the good chef was joking and all, trying to inspire confidence while also getting a laugh out of you, but I'm typing with one arm and only three fingers attached to the remaining arm. Calzones are like Pit Bulls. Everyone apologizes for them until they are missing appendages. I rue the day.
