This nonsense keeps us divided along with people in the comment section. No matter what you say, you're not "Black," you are African, and just because our experiences are different, it doesn't change the fact we all were enslaved, and this is why I hate what happened to us.
I swear we have some of the most idiotic discussions in our culture. This remind me of the episode of the boondocks when the prison was taken over by the prisoners, and they had to negotiate terms. Everything that they listed had nothing to do with their freedom or better conditions of living in prison. It was all vain and superficial. Here, we are now talking about how we should have some ethnic identity distinction because we want to further ourselves from our African ancestry. This is dumb. It doesn't matter if they call us Black American or African American, we're still Americans because it is literally in the title. The people of Black Wallstreet didn't give a d@mn about their title, they cared about building and group economics. Something that Cam'ron doesn't care about because he loves snow bunnies, but that's beside the point. Whites take pride in being of Irish, German, Italian descent, so why are we so opposed to our ancestry? And don't claim that it's because Africans won't accept us because we rejected Africans by accepting the image of Africa that the Europeans created.
Yoooh guys I'm african born raised in South Africa Soweto, recently moved to Connecticut, I do think Killa Cam ain't wrong he is an black American, but also if another American black feels like he is african American his ok also, just remember this are just dum titled given to Blacks in America by whites, mind games, this typo topics are fruitless though, love you, in the USA for a year now, never had a Black American friend they like distancing themselves, i got good ties with Brazilians and Latinos, some how I feel like Latinos have this strong feeling of bn African than most of my Black American . With love Johannesburg South Africa
Culture is closer to the heart of the matter and closer than that is values. Younger generations talk about 'The Culture" but there is and has never been one culture - one way we all were? There is no one way of being 'Black". Hip-Hop is now the face of Black culture to the world. KRS-0ne has said "Hip-Hop should be an ethnicity within itself, yet that has been widely ignored by Hip-Hop and Black people in general. The 50 year anniversary celebration just ended and I did not hear any mention about this relatively recent statement by the person who is said to have codified Hip-Hop. One would think it merits as much discussion as the use of the n-word. We were forcibly both here divided by ethnicity, language, and culture and have become more so since, especially with all these new claims and calls for who we are, and what we should be called. FBA talk about we built the country. Are we the architects of it? Would we want to boast about that if we were? The pertinent point is what have any group among us built for themselves lately? The NOI don't even have their own communities. I heard of one attempt in Mississippi, and by the time the children were adults most Left the community and didn't come back to live there. It was an article in the Wash. Post, if I'm not mistaken. No doubt Black Christians would show to be the most prosperous demographic among us, if they all lived in the same communities. The Black Church is not as influential anymore because many of its members don't live in the communities the church is in. Some groups among us have made considerable progress, but it can't be measured, because we haven't built physical communities in the last century. Some call us "Family" but we don't function like one, and so certainly not on the broader level of a nation, which is what most of the rhetoric used by those speaking as if the represent all or most of us suggest, especially around the issue of reparations. It all equates to us gas-lighting ourselves.
@@johnstephanos1128Omg you people!! African is not a real ethnicity!!! It wasn't even originally called Africa. Them folks called it that nit original people of that land. So, why do y'all keep trying to label us African when those people didn't even call themselves African?
That's not an ethnnicity. Congrats on accepting the brainwash of slavemasters who denied your AFRICAN ancestors a right to remember their heritage. I bet you fight to use the N word too huh? lol.
@@-Tijani-You allowed your native continent to be colonized and exploited by your white massa, while your families flee to live in your white massa's homeland. Shut up neega
We are certainly Black Americans. If Africans born in Africa who now live in America are African Americans then surely we are the Black Americans. It has to be okay for us in all of this to have and maintain our own identity. We are a created race that has pioneered the soul and foundation of this country. I can love you like a brother and sister while overstanding that we are not the same. This decreases the hurt when we find as Black Americans that many aren’t messing with us on any level. But we’re just fine.✊🏾-- LaTaisha Nicole
@@paidamoyomakwiranzou2209 yeah but what will he identify as. I go to school with Africans that indeed call themselves African American. That’s precisely why I am not. I used to like the connection to the motherland that the name gave but when you learn how many of them in America want to be separate from us and then ca themselves us is seen as another way to undermine our struggle because you want our jobs and then opportunities so it’s okay if they mistake you for me as long as it comes with a check.
Although I am treated decently by many Nigerians, I am not African I am American. I am Black. I am a Black American, a Foundational Black American and I love my lineage.
I’m with Cam😎 Foundational Black [american]🤟🏾 We the Best!💪🏾 We’re smarter, better looking, stronger, wiser, better cultured, STRONGER and most feared✊🏾
OK, so let’s say we all agree to drop the term “African American” in favor of “Black American,” will somebody else (or the same people) be complaining once again in a few years about “Black America “ and demand a further refinement of the term? Are there other things more important that we should be focusing on than semantics?
Cam'ron was talking about Africans that migrate here they call us Yankees Akata and Jeriers. All derogatory terms, specifically for Black Americans! As if we ever wronged them.
American blacks' culture is very diverse, rich, and vast like many African cultures. FBA are American Indians, Pawmunkey, Cherokees, Choctaws, Black foot Indians, Geechee Gullah etc I believe it is left to the Indigenous Black folks of America to continue to amplify the culture to unravel this confusion and shadow created by WS for centuries.
@dogood2848 You do realize that Geechee Gullah ppl are direct descendants of enslaved West Africans from the Rice Coast aka the Windward Coast of Africa….They are Not Native American tribe & they are very Proud of their African ancestry. Also, the Chickasaw, Choctaw, Cherokee, Creek & Seminoles All owned Slaves, they subscribed to the same ideologies as the WM, quit glorifying those ppl. They don’t even acknowledge Black Seminoles still to this day. Yal just want to be anything other than descendants of Africans so bad….Most of this rhetoric is rooted in Anti-Blackness & Anti-Anything African😖
@kennystepn0439 the same people who lied to you all these years made up your DNA tests. You still believe in the Easter Bunny to. Oh I forgot, I can do my own research and learn my truth.
Im hurt that we have even divided ourselves like this. I was born in America yet, very soon I would like to find my way back home to mama Africa from where my ancestors were taken. They call out to me and I would want nothing more in this life time to be back in the land of my ancestors and to breathe the air, eat the fruits , the food and embrace the culture. I prAy to the universe, my ancestors and mami wata to help me return to my tribe and our true and only home. I pray that I am met with open arms and I know she is building a supportive and loving tribal home for me and my kin there. I pray you all find your way back home where we belong and unify together to fight the reAl culprit who created this mess. This American is ready to come back home , I hate it here. I am not apart of this foolishness ancestors, dont come for me. I enjoy and understand my birth right. Ase’
"I hate it here" ... and thats really what this conversation is about. Because this is the case for some theres a desire to be somewhere else and shed yourself of the place you hate and along with that place comes your identity .. black. The problem with this is that you desire to be African is rooted in your hate of this place and in this place you are black. Im not accusing you of hating being black but I kinda am, and you wouldn't be the only one because Pan-Africanism too is rooted in the idea that being black in America is something to disliked and to be escaped. This also explains why Africans in America dont want to be called black and why they take issue with us embracing being black American because its understood that being black American is something that is hated.
I had a feeling you'd get wind of Cam saying that. I watched the show live and when he said it I agreed and said to myself this will raise some eye brows 😂 salute to you bruh✊🏿
Black American or American is a better tittle because like Tariq Nasheed said “African American is a misnomer because a Nigerian or a white woman from South Africa can claim that title”. I don’t call myself an African Haitian or an African Brazilian.
Africans are Hamites, we are not them and they are not us. Hebrew descendents. 2 different bloodlines. People don’t sell their own people as slaves to Yte people. Do you see Africans living in the hoods with American blacks ? You never hear about an African get shot down police ? If that’s our people why isn’t citizen ships are free in Africa ? ..
I agree with him but what concerns me is based on the instagram link on the median income by the cultures like this Gambian woman and other West Africans chimed in bringing in this separatist mindset when they fled their country to come here to benefit from our blood sweat and tears. I don’t appreciate their haughty attitude like they are better than black Americans who suffered significantly. I do wish that Africans learn the history and our plight to gain understanding and knowledge instead of walking around ignorant.
Africans are very ignorant people. Having a conversation with them, especially their women is horrible. I see why they are in the F'd up conditions they are in
Phil good day to you and to all our family on the platform. Theres also a 'general caribbean culture', where similarly the music, food are largely influenced by the different african origins of the peoples.
Happy New Year 🕛 Thank you Mr. Phillip Scott, for educating on the nationalities, ethnicity, culture, race and groups to those who didn't know. BE BLESSED 🍀 you and your family. I will pray your strength to endure this podcast race. May your New Year be the best Year ever 👍
Why not just American.. Webster's dictionary 1828 AMER'ICAN, noun A native of America; originally applied to the aboriginals, or copper-colored races, found here by the Europeans; but now applied to the descendants of Europeans born in America.. cooper-colored is the blacks.. we've been lied to. we are the Originals. Pyramids in Mexico old as the ones in Africa built by us...Olmecs. Blacks have been here since before the Ice age. they are claiming your title American from Amaru-khan (Black Skin people) Phillip knows this
I know people will say I’m lying 😅 but as an African, I honestly don’t personally know ANY African who is opposed to AAs delineating. Most Africans would agree because AAs are indeed different. Why shouldn’t they say so? 🤔
You right phyllip, I did mention that to my spouse and someone I was dealing with about traveling, leave america because it's stressful staying hear going through oppression, living in destruction conditions, it does mess with my mental health I've been suffering for years to now like you said in your video and I said this before I hear you said it, that I need a break. what you said that's what I wanted and did years ago was walk away from family too and leave people behind, you are truly right what you said that the mess in america will stress us out and it has stress me the hell out that's why I want to travel.
