Same here... First the 44,1kHz led started blinking, resulting in complete absence after some minutes. Now, suddenly the USB input led has also died. The sound remains OK :-)
Also on my unit 5 leds are gone, even my USB input led which I almost never use. My unit does degrade in quality, bought a 752BD player with same onboard DAC lot more dynamic and soundstage. Degradation is a slow process through the years, never noticed. After opening the unit i found a lot of cheap Xunda capacitors some very close to the heatsink. If you own the DAC you know its getting hot. I ordered a new set of capacitors from a respected brand Panasonic. I measured the onboard LED driver, its a CC type. Current is 15.6mA. Now i have to find replacement LED's. Kingbright got a huge list of leds, Possibly I choose a low mcd version to avoid using sunglasses if i watch the DAC. ;-) Here a list off all capacitors from the Dacmagic. 4x 1000μF 50V 105°C 4x 2200μF 25V 105°C 2x 1000μF 25V 105°C 1x 470μF 50V 105°C 1x 220μF 50V 105°C 15x 10μF 35V 105°C 6x 10μF 50V 105°C 2x 47μF 16V 105°C 1x 100μF 16V 105°C 6x 470μF 16V 85°C
My 192kHz LED light started flickering today too. I guess this is a common problem with this model. As long as the sound is still working, I don't think it's worth the trouble going through the whole warranty process.
Just experienced this problem, I had a new PSU supplied by Cambridge recently as the supplied one suffered the common problem of overheating . Although about 14 months out of warranty Cambridge sent one by return post (3 days turnround). Problem now first the USB select LED flashes just like the video here, No inputs or output despite selecting other I/P channels. I first checked the PSU to ensure a stable and correct 12V supply and this appears ok. Scope does not indicate any undue rippleso not a PSU problem. If left to settle, then selecting other input whether TOS/ Coa-ax all LEDs go berserk. I would have a go at repair but at my late age I do not have the steady hand to accomplish on such small components. I used to repair micro chip based PCBs for a living but now a bit shaky so this may be a bin job unless something straightforward! Any tips would be appreciated.
I have Cambridge Audio Dacmagic Plus and 48kHz sample rate led started to flicker/went dim and now it not work at all. Sometimes the led might flash time after time. Does anybody know how it can fix. Feels that there is contact problem somewhere.
Hello Arthur, agree it seems a faulty connection but replacement of the leds is the fix. Kingbright got a lot of leds. Find a 3mm version around 500 mcd@20mA.
@manolomos how did you manage to open the Dacmagic to access the leds? If I remove the backplate I still can't get the PCB out. It seems fixed to the case somehow. I have the original Azur Dacmagic (the one that was released before Dacmagic Plus)
