This was recorded at a great festival where people gather together to appreciate musicians, and realise the efforts and sacrifices musicians make to bring us music. Even if some of the music is not to their taste, they do not make malicious, personal, abusive comments. What a pity this ethos is not extended to RU-vid.
Strange when these people make nasty comments, when the people are giving up their time, and actually playing their own music, and NOT miming like a lot of famous, Rich people who should be the ones getting 'knocked'. Also the music is beautiful, and some of it is on a par with Pink Floyd. Also the vocals are lovely, much in the jefferson Airplane and it's a Beautiful Day mold. Just take the time to listen, and don't be too hasty to be 'anti'. It is REAL music, NOT processed, and I love it!....Sid....Cambridge.
Love Mostly Autumn. We play them and many well known and much less known prog bands at Prog Rock Dock. Hopefully, we will meet some of you there soon. Thanks 666Bern666 for posting this gem.
If people can't see talent in this style of music why not keep it to themselves and listen to what they listen to and not say bad things about the music they just can't understand.
@nnnnigey Cant say I really agree, although I like a lot of heavier bands and often wish they would rock out a bit more. If you like the 'girl on support' she is Anne Marie Helder the singer for the band Panic Room, you might want to look them up if you dont know them....
Well said, Sid from Cambridge. Anyone who isn't convinced about this band should take the trouble to listen to their back catalogue. And anyone who isn't convinced that this girl can sing, should listen to songs from 'Ghost Moon Orchestra' or their new CD Dressed in Voices'
@davycrocketful I recommend checking any live album or out of the studio albums especially The Spirit of Autumn Past and The Last Bright Light, which are my favourites. The singer used to be different one until this year, but equally good.
They may have been fans of VDGG, but in terms of influences there is absolutely no comparison between the two bands. And, ricky771able I'd actually prefer them now with Olivia...funny old world eh?
@666Bern666 I don't expect many will agree with me.I feel bad 'cos who am I to criticise anyone;they've got more talent in their little fingers etc.As I say I still like them, I especially think the main man is a class act. I've had a very quick look at Panic Room & therefore not too sure what to think at the moment;I really appreciate the nod though, cheers!!
Hubert Van Calenbergh Olivia is beautiful but I wish she wouldn't peroxide her hair like that... (a personal gripe of mine about hair-bleaching)... Good music all the same.
Ten years on, and boy do they miss the two original females, Heather and Angela on flute and 2nd keyboards. They could have been great, but they dont sound as good in 2015 as they did in 2010. I used to follow this band all over for years, but theyve lost their way now. Shame.
I totally agree. The thing with modern prog bands is that it is forced and contrived. The old Prog bands like Genesis and Yes etc made music that came to them totally naturally. They were just brilliand writers and musicians. No forcing necessary.
Saw them at The Brook,So'ton last night.I'm quite new to this band but I really like them.Superb sound... but I think they could be better! I think they need a singer with a more powerful voice. This isn't a criticism of the new singer as, to be honest, I didn't rate Heather Findlay either. The music's great until the vocals kick in. The girl who does all the support is really good though! Very good band, could & should be great??
I don't know how you can "not rate Heather Findlay", so it kind of makes it hard to give any sort of answer to you. I would like to know some examples of singers you do like, to have some sense of where you're coming from, however. I don't personally think "more powerful" is necessarily better anyway.
I find a lot of these identikit "prog" bands a little insipid - they get plenty of coverage in Prog Rock and Classic Rock, they all seem to have a beautiful girl singer, but the music can be very bland. I've seen MA and Anne Marie live ( AMH supporting Ultravox!) and they're better than most, but there IS an awful lot of dross under the prog banner.
Some friends of mine used to call this band "Mostly Awful". Sounds about right to me. Totally uninspired, insipid, turgid and boring. The singer looks like she's in the wrong band. Maybe she got told to dress like that when she joined the band.
"Your not goin out dressed in that" What an unholy mess! Truly one of the most soul destroying bands ever, and that's putting it kindly....oh good lord make it stop.
This is just soft rock masquerading as prog. Beautiful singer with o.k voice. The music is just bland and uninspired. Bands like this are everywhere (lana lane, Kingfisher sky, Karnataka) and they all sound the same. At least the early prog bands were experimental and exciting, this fails on both counts.
The vocals just aren't strong enough for this band I feel. I'm sure guys think she's "hot", but they need someone like Sonja Kristina or Grace Slick kinda vocals, just my opinion.
