Mine finally arrived! And I think I solved the extra ball bearing issue from your previous videos - optional rear steering arm? My poor bank account, though - bearings, UGT tuned motor, second servo, oil shocks, stabilizer bars, and slick tires/wheels - I'm upgrading the darn thing and I haven't even built it yet! Cheers for the funnies, my friend - channel coverage to come soon. I hope you enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed your 'Just Buy It' video (yes sir!) and bash session!
Ahh... you may well be right! Amma call that mystery solved! Haha, doesn't that just sum-up the RC hobby? You're very welcome and thank you for the support! It means a lot.
I didn't think it would be possible to find an RC that looked more fun to drive than your heavy dump truck, but you found it!! That looks both ridiculous, and so awesome at the same time, I love it!! And I thought the whole reason for being in the RC hobby was to have fun!! That would put a smile a mile wide on my face!! Brilliant!! 😎👍🏻
Haha fun is CERTAINLY the focal point of this one! Or... the entire point. Of course it is! Hobbies are good for the soul, afterall. Hobbies and Scotch Whisky.
before i saw this i thought it was just a novelty rc....i now need one with all my soul also that place looks awsome i have a hpi jumpshot that i need to find a place like that to test drive
I mean... it kind of _is_ a novelty RC, but a very fun one and certainly an asset to my collection! Yeah, find an abandoned quarry, or something, they're great.
Oh, that was great to watch! You're a fun guy, and with a fun vehicle like that it's good for a few laughs for sure! You did a good job driving straight up that hill, I tried earlier and it just wanted to turn around all the time... Have a good one there!
My gripe about many tamiyas is the lack of gear options. Being undergeared never really let's higher kv motors ever develop much power. 3s might be just right for the truck, but the motor will run hot...
Yeah, absolutely. Quite a common theme with Tamiyas. I don't think I'll do 3s on this truck, as the cheaper brushless system isn't really meant for it and I think too much power will probably ruin the fun of this chassis.
I bought one of these a few years ago and due to my lack of RC know how went with the stock motor and could not get over how slow it was. I was actually about to list it on ebay today, but you might have just encouraged me to get back into the hobby. I think I'll order a new motor for mine and slap some cool stickers on it!
Wonder if there are wider a arms too put on this that fit from another chassis from tamiya, or maybe just hex wideners all around too bring the wheels out a little bit at the cost of occasionally breaking the drivepins in the wheel hexes & bending the axles. Could probably do donuts if you remove the middle rear wheels & suspension & just leave the diff outdrives too spin while locking the rear most diff.
Yeah, you can certainly widen it. There are wider Tamiya arms that are a direct replacement. However, I don't know if I _want_ to make it more capable, you know? I have several capable RCs, I drive something like this, because it _isn't_ capable! It's a bit like the Lunch Box, in this regard. Oh, yeah, that would definitely do it! Or, you could fit the rear-wheel-steer kit.
Great run mike. You were saying about the different kv brushless systems and speeds. My Konghead is 4000kv with the 20t pinion and goes 21mph on tarmac. The Volvo Hauler is 3500kv with 20t pinion and it goes 20mph so hardly any difference. I reckon that to improve it a lot you'd need to go to 3s power. For me they are quick enough so I've not tried that yet.
Yeah, not much a of a difference there! Thanks for the info. I don't think I'd want 3s power on this thing. Chasing power isn't exactly what these things are made for!
Cheers, cool vid :) I got to finish my Tamiya VW Flower power, just paint and stickers left. Then I got this bad boy to build, still in the box. Seems nice with brushless so I might just go for that as well! Do you need something special to set up the 4w steering? Noticed something on the box?
Thank you! I'm sure you'll have a great time with this one. You have the parts to make it 4WS, just need a second servo and either a separate radio channel, or a y-splitter. Honestly, though... the truck does like to tip over!
