My machine was failing identically to this, and had tried all of the other recommendations from Silhouette and videos. I just finished a support call with a Senior Specialist from Silhouette and I believe we figured out the issue. The new machines use more pressure to hold the mats, so can warp/distort the registration mark and cause it to fail. Holding up the end of the mat higher than the blade while it reads the first mark has seemed to fixed it (newest software version of Silhouette Studio). I did tests with different registration mark settings and in different light settings and so far so good. I was also told to reset the blade carriage by turning off the machine and sliding it left to right 3x if it does fail before trying again. I am hoping this fixes it, since I will be returning/exchanging it if I have any further issues :')
Blue Creek Print Shoppe -Thank you so much for the information. It worked so well. I just lifted my mat and the cameo read the marks everytime. Thanks again. You rock :)
@@genevievepershin2462 Yay I'm glad! I love Silhouette over Cricut for print then cut so I was so frustrated when it wasn't reading haha. The quality is so much better out of Silhouette Studio than Cricut's Design Space.
Thank you sooooo much! I have been beyond over this machine because nothing i did worked! the stracth tip work for me. So happy I have a brand new and was ready to throw in the towel. You saved the day! Thank you a thousand times and then some.
Thank you so much. U solved my problem by teaching me how to use it manually. My machine managed to detect the registration marks!!! God bless you.. ❤️
Just used mine for the first time today and had the same issue. After coming here and reading the comments, holding it up so it is above level has worked for me. Thank you lovely internet peeps! 👍🏼
SO frustrating to constantly see this problem with my Cameo 4. But I tried the suggestions of thickening the marks in the registration panel and it worked so far! Thanks!
I am a new user here and this is the same problem I have been facing. I need to try this method cus I was so frustrated that I just put the machine away. Thanks for recording this!
Omg. I seriously thought it was only me! It's frustrating af!!! Thank you for your vid and comments. Holding it up seemed to help. I'ma try other ways that others have said too, but this is horrible since I'm trying to make merch from this cause cutting shrink plastic by hand is horrid.
I have had the exact same problem. I solved it by thickening the registration marks with a thick marker. You can also change the thickness of your registration marks in the settings. Hope this tip helps.
I've tried all of the thick markers I had ranging from Pigma Micron marks to Sharpies. The marker worked only once, then I tried a square piece of black vinyl and it worked!
I was so frustrated yesterday when I watched your video that I wasnt alone. So, I kept looking for solutions. I think I found one for now. Try to put the sheet a tad higher on the mat. When I tried a new one it worked. I tried the one that didn't work and it still didnt work but the rest worked .Another thing I learned earlier is you have to print on high quality print. Standard doesn't work. I hope this works for you
Hope this solution helps someone 1. Turn off registration marks 2. Click test button. It will cut a box and triangle at the top left of the paper. Make sure that is at the far end of the paper. It will pull the paper a bit to make the cut. This aligns all the other cuts on the paper. 3. *Do not remove the paper* Just click on send and done! Took me 3 hrs and this worked. Scratching the box worked once but doesn't help all the time.
Be sure to select the correct paper format, marker the square box, place a light near the finder, and keep the mat flat, thicken the registration marks as wll
By accident, I have found a way to get my registration marks to register consistently more than usual. I placed a piece of clear vinyl over the black square. I discovered this by laminating my stickers first and never had trouble with the registration marks. When the stickers were not laminated, all I did was fight with the Cameo 4.
omg,, this works. I'm tired of using my machine that can't register. then i found your comment. I didn't use lamination, but I used a bit of clear tape on the registration mark and it worked
OH my god! That works. I uses a bit of clear tape over the black square and it started working right away! I've had my silhouette cameo 4 mess up cut through so many sticker paper throughout the year. It finally works. *tears of joy*
I had the original machine (1), and this one (4). I can say I still prefer the original. The 4 has been absolute garbage and give me nothing but problems. It works perfectly one day, then open the same file the next day and nothing works right at all. I hate this machine and regret buying it. I was always solidly in the Silhouette camp, but now I'm leaning towards buying a Cricket. I don't have time to waste on this machine. For the price I paid, I expect it to work right out of the box without having to jimmy-rig it. So frustrating.
Had the same issue and found that if I ran a standard vinyl cut without registration marks that I could run a cut with registration marks and it picked right up. Hope this helps.
Hey man, i found out that I needed to load the paper with a slight overlap covering the mat lines, seems like the laser detects the lines on the mat as the registration marks in error...
I had the same problem, spend a day to find out what went wrong. and then I saw a blogpost, where they say the paper has to go over the grid lines of the mat, otherwise it gives an error. So i tried this and it worked pretty well. So I think that could help you guys too!
I watched all kind of tutorials (about 100) before I buy, then I decided to buy one and now I have this problem and I'm just wondering why I've never seen the clips about this before. Today I've just got my machine and I'm so upset.
I’m late to the game but I had similar issues and I closed the lid and it worked. I still struggle on glossy paper but anything on flat matte surface works fine.
Greeting! I had the same problem and solved it by placing stamps (5x5 mm cube) 10 mm from each edge of the paper up and to the left. The lower left mark is also 10 mm from the left edge of the paper. A4 format. You can adjust the size of the stamps in the menu (registration marks) and they must be 10mm long and 0.50 thick. For paper format SR A3 (450mmx320mm) in the menu registration marks, advance setings, (position) set the stamp values: inset- 10.00 mm left inset- 10.00 mm top inset 10.00 mm right inset 25.00 mm bottom inset 26.00 mm
I have the same problem with my Cameo 4. I have used Cameo machines for years and tried all my old tricks to get it to work. With no such luck. But this time around I noticed with the Cameo 4, that sometimes the alignment and the registration does not happen correctly. What has worked for me is to have the registration mark higher up. Since the Cameo 4 starts looking for the mark so high up. I hope Silhouette fixes this bug. Since the machine should be able to read this mark in many positions.
I am in the same boat with my Silhouette Cameo 4. Even contacted tech support and had no success. Had troubles with my Cameo 3 when I first got it but tech support was able to help me and it still Cut and prints great! So disappointed about the Cameo 4.
TIP: hold mat up at a 45 deg angle while registering.... or do what i do use my old C3 which also has a repeat button (which i have no idea why they took that off the machine its the most usefully thing if your like me and doing more than 1 of anything)...also i found that the circuit mat (look online how to make a circuit mat work on a silhouette machine) its much much thicker so easier to hold at an angle better (since thicker you will have to change your setting on pressure to less) Hop that helps....liza from Cancun
My solution was to move de mark (this black square). I printed it with an upper margin of 41mm instead of the 15.88 mm that came as a default value. After that it was easier for the Cameo 4 to find the marks.
Download the latest version of Silhouette. After installing it and opening it again (be sure to replace it with the old version), it may give you a message say you need an update and that there is new firmware that needs to be installed. Plug in the usb and check the setting at the bottom of the Send menu, click the button that looks like a printer and select the name of your cutter that has a usb symbol. It will connect and do all of the necessary updates. After that, it should work smoothly😊
Roughing up the top square fixed my issue with failed registration. I just simply scratched the square with my fingernail and now it seems to work fine. Definitely a quality control issue by Silhouette.
So, I just saw this tip today on the subreddit for silhouette cameo and it super worked for me. *Place matte scotch tape over the scanner eye.* The Cameo 4 was made to have a much more sensitive scanner than the Cameo 3, which is why so many people using it have been having issues consistently getting it to register. This tip saved my sanity today and I hope it helps you guys, too!
I had the same think happened to me, but I noticed if the cutting mat has a flaw or a bend it will not register. So I changed the cutting mat to another one I had and work.
My machine was doing the same thing did everything even cut a square in the regeneration mark. Which worked but left every cut askew. Come to find out there was an update that needed to be installed. everything works hope this helped! 🙏
I found a video just now. You have to manually place the cutting blade over the registration mark manually not the square thing that looks like the reader. It worked! Hope that helps!!!
Hello!! Thank you so so much for this tip! It somehow worked for me!!! Also to anyone reading! if your paper is glossy and the registration marks still cannot be read with this trick, please apply matte scotch tape on at least the square registration mark and it may help for it to be read!!
i just got the cameo 4Pro i had cricut thought it was better but im having the same issue as you are 🥺 were you able to figure it out or still same thing
I know that this is an old post and that the problem is probably already solved but I still want to share what worked for me. I lifted the back of the cuttingmat while it registered marks, so that the cuttingmat is not bent down when it starts.
I am having this same issue and I am in the middle of making stickers for another business that has an expo tomorrow morning and it did four pages of stickers just fine and then now it’s giving me this issue constantly I’ve tried this one sheet of sticker paper probably 30 times not even joking I am starting to get really really frustrated with it and mine has been registering the side of the mat as well and I don’t know what is going on with it but I am super tempted to start calling support and see if I can get something figured out I’ve had it for about a year now and it’s been great until now and I mean for how expensive the silhouette is I really wish it would’ve lasted longer than this that’s for sure
I've been having the same issue. I usually print a barcode on it and do it that way. That used to work, but it's so finicky. It's driving me insane and support is of little help.
My issue is the calibration 😡 I’m so mad! I’ve tried everything and every time I do the calibration test it come out fine! But once I try to cut something with print and cut.. it cuts it all bad. It’s so frustrating!
I know this is a dumb question - but this Silhouette 4 - is it a printer as well as a cutter? Did you print those bumblebees with the Silhouette 4? Or was they printed with some other printer and the Silhouette 4 is only used to cut them out? Thanks !
also it not having a lamp??? "Reasons for registration marks reading failure: 1. missing light source" my question dear silhouette is: why is there no light source on your machine that needs a light source to work properly?
Wow i thought i was doing smtg wrong smh mine cuts when it wants. Im lucky i was making a shirt for a family member, had it been for a customer on a time frame i'd be screwed !
I had the same issue as everyone else. What helped me was shinning the flashlight from my phone from the inside right of the machine to the left where the sensor was. When I had the light on the front of the machine, that didn't work. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the comment. It seems there are lots of issues here... My replacement machine has no issues at all. It must be bad build quality on dinner units.
I have been having this trouble for an hour, I just shined a bright light into it an it started working again. I think this happens from running the machine all day and in low light
I brought the silhouette portrait 3 and been having the same issue. All this money we spend on these machines and have to go threw this it’s a same and Silhouette needs to be ashamed of themselves you email or call tech support and they can’t help you with this issue. We need all send an email about the issue. Maybe they will do something about it. How do we get our Money back. I should have went with the Cricuit. SMH!! TFS!!
I was having the same issue and tried something. I had adjusted my registration marks to the smallest possible setting and I kept getting this error no matter what I did. Today I went and changed them to .50 and ITS BEEN WORKING LIKE A CHARM!!! I was about to throw the machine out the window last night!!! Give it a try to see if helps you!!! Good luck!
@@chingching9181 Try changing your Registration marks Position Inset to 0.50. See if that works for you. You may need to turn your machine off, and then back on. After I made that change, it worked first time. Then I went in and did something else to the file, and when I sent it thru again it failed on the 1st try but worked on the 2nd. Good luck
Hi! Not sure if anyone commented this or not or if it will apply to all people having this issue or not. But it fixed my problem and thought I would mention it. In the page set up section under the design tab make sure registration marks is turned OFF. This may not help people doing Print and Cut but it helped my fabric cutting issues. What a frustrating problem!!
After a lot of researching and coming across this video I have found that making the Mat (cameo 4 pro) has to be propped up to keep it flat and it works fine.
My 11 year old figured this out. But now we’re having the same issues as the video here. It’s a pain. Haven’t been able to get a decent print and cut on days
Yea this damn machine is making me lose money through the time it takes sometimes it does it sometimes it doesn’t we all need to get a free new one this should be a recall on this machine
Are you still having issues. My SC4 did the same thing and then I tried lifting the mat a little higher then the roller and it worked for some reason. Are you able to test and confirm if you still have your machine?
My Cam was not registering the outside mark and rejected every send. The adjustment below fixed this issue: Design page - (Upper right) Page Setup - Registration Marks - Set Length & Thickness to max settings (.787in & 1.00mm)
I have been listening ti your video while pulling my hair out trying to get mine to register. I took my CBO9 Cutter head off and it had a wad of Vinyl stuck up in the hole the blade comes out, CLeared it now it registers and cuts. I have NO IDEA how the machine registers. I mean I can see no LIGHT that it uses. But WTF!
I battled with all the little suggestions for a good half a day. finally i reinstalled silhouette studio and instead of using the bluetooth i used the usb. so far so good. but man these things are frustrating.
@@flowingcolor Me too, so far its still working even in a not so lite room. havent tried the bluetooth yet, im just happy i can get some work done. I kinda wonder if it was the software download or maybe there was some updates or something. ??? The program was pretty glitchy originally.
The same thing happened to me. Then I watched a video that explains why the Cameo fails. It is because we open several files at a time. You can clic on Restore Marks and only open one file at a time
Best solution! 100% Guaranteed!!! If the paper is laying bent over, the registration will read a distortion, so you need to lift the paper so that the registration can read the square box accurately. Try it, thank me later.
Finally I found myself dumb enough to find the root cause of my cameo why its failing registration. It turned out that there was a tape on the back side of the cameo which was blocking the mat to go through the machine all the way to the back. Removed the tape, tried registration (auto/manual don't remember) one more time and it worked. I did nothing else. but that was my machine and my issue, may or may not be incase of anyone else.
@@flowingcolor try this buddy I'm having the same problem as everyone else with the Silhouette Camo 4 not reading my registration marks ! I'll be checking mine sometime today as well but here's the link on RU-vid hope this helps and everyone that's having the same problem...... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l7dJHyfZMfo.html
i bought my cameo 4 2 weeks ago.. and im so frickin prustrated about this garbage.. i did all the tips i found on the internet and none of them worked!
@@flowingcolor i returned it to my supplier for them to check it in actual.. I was there when they try it and it wasn't really working.. So i leave them the machine to check for few more times. They called me the next day and tells me that it was already working. So i get there to see it for myself.. And yes its working.. But when i get back home and start to use it. It doesn't work again.. 😫
@@elyssapissa I setup a very bright light directly on the area where the sensor looks for the first registration mark and that makes it work 80%+ now. Have to play with the angle a bit, my cellphone light wasn't bright or consistent enough.
I have a Cricut but kept destroying paper and now I have a Cameo 4 and it refuses to cut. So tired the one time I got it to cut to and then today nothing.
For everyone still wondering, do not let the mat hang, make it so it at the same level as the sensor and it will work. But a book under the mat to keep it at the same height.
Is anyone having the issue where it starts reading to register and then the mat phyiscally falls out?? This has been happening to me and its freaking infuriating. Let me know if anyone has had this issue and if they've been able to fix it.
@@flowingcolor OMG i have a sticker business and the cameo stopped cutting the last 4 days and i was devastated and today ive been trying to cut on frosting sheet for the last 3 hours and the scratching method saved my life THANK YOU VERY MUCH
This is an old video but the problem remain the same for many user of Cameo 4. To begin with you need to follow few rules. First rule; Who told you that register marks on the printed paper are exactly vertically and horizontally aligned with your printed paper edge? The cameo cutters design to reject anything that is 5% off. You cant lined up the edge of the printed paper with cutting board' left guide line. Every laser jet or Inkjet never loads every paper evenly. You need to measure exact distance from the registration marks to the edge of the cutting board. Second rule; There is a very limited area to measure and register your print from the top left square. This square cant be far from the left edge of the cutting board. Approximately 24 mm from the left edge and 35 mm, from the top of the cutting board, else manual adjustment will be requested. The manual adjust on Cameo 4 is really bad. But it must be lined up with the middle of the left blade to catch on. You also cant print in the dark room and your cutting mat must be supported in perfect horizontal position against the cutting blades.
