Again, great video. Appreciate the knowledge you're sharing. I own the 6500 and trying to figure out which 5" monitor will work when using the A6500 on my Zhiyun Gimbal since it's hard to see the camera's LCD.
I'm going to take your advice and hook up my Sony nx5u to my computer screen which is fairly large and it does have a HDMI port. I really would like to see the cameras menu displayed on an external monitor mainly because of my poor eyesight. I forgot to mention I do not shoot in 4k only 1920 by 1080. Now I must get back to your fantastic video Keith
I absolutelly love yhis channel ! it is so enjoyable to watch ! Once I get my G85 I will buy your guide ! Can you tell me what light you use in the background? The blue one I mean . Some sort of Philips Hue?
Hey man, love your videos . Very useful advice and tips . Thanks for that . I gotta question for you, I have a cannon T3i and I'm looking to a buy a monitor(150-300$ range)I'd be using it for setting up my shots and watching live action . Which monitor do you think would be the best for my camera and needs ? Thank you !!
Great video as always!👍🏾👍🏾Do you know what monitor I can use on a Canon DSLR that will allow me to view both the monitor & the camera screen at the same time, like you're doing in the video?
Hi Caleb, Excllent video like the others, question: I will be buying a Sony A 6400, how can I be sure that the monitor I buy will replicate the function of my camera screen for example the horizontal line?
I was expecting to see about the sizes and resolutions. I had hard time what size I should get when I was deciding to buy one. At the end, I just went to see reviews of the product and got 7" with higher resolutions. But I still wonder if it's going to be too big on my camera or not.
I have a lighting question. What do you think about those foldable flat panel thin LED light panels. Are they a good choice compared to softboxes? I don't have a lot of space to leave umbrellas and softboxes up all the time.
Great video. All cameras I use with my ATEM Mini Pro and lillipuy 7" monitor and/or larger desktop monitor - How are you getting both your camera screen and monitor showing the same image (my cameras screen go blank with hdmi plugged into monitor)??
Hey Caleb, can you recommend a monitor for Sony A6500 ? Basically i mainly need it for the bigger screen, features are welcome too ? What would you recommend ?
Please bro i need an advice, i have a Canon 7D and i want to get a monitor, knowing that in the future days i wanna use thesame monitor on a 4k camera.
Im trying to add a monitor to a camera without a hotshoe and EVERY option Ive seen when searching use that top hotshoe connector! Any recommendation for a bracket that will allow me to use the tripod mount?
You were great here my friend. But I was wating to see do you mention monitors that they record as well as showing footage? Why didn't you mention those?
Hey Caleb, I'm not sure where to post this/send this message, but you might be interested in knowing that Feelworld just released like 4 brand new 4k monitors. They seem to be a bit more on the pricier side, as opposed to their cheap line that most people by. The monitors are: FEELWORLD F550 5.5" 4K, FEELWORLD FH7 7'' 4K, FEELWORLD A737 7" 4K, FEELWORLD F450 4.5" 4K, FEELWORLD S450-M 4.5" 3G-SDI 4K, and the FEELWORLD 4K101HSD-256 10.1" 4K with IPS 2560X1600 resolution. The F550 and F450 look a lot like smallhd monitors, same style. Anyways, just thought you might be interested in checking them out.
I use Sony HDR CX290, CX405, CX455 camcorders. The camcorder is 30' in the air. Would like my "REC" red image to show on my external monitor. What setting should I be looking for or do I need a better camcorder. Thanks,Coach Ward
Greetings, in case you have experience with the Lilliput A7S 7" IPS Full HD HDMI Field LED Monitor, 4K Support, 1920x1200. Is it supported by canon 6d ii and canon 5d iii?
All my friend I am subscribed let me tell you something you said that I really liked. You said if your camera has peaking and zebra, which mine does I'm currently using the Sony nx5u video camera. You are the only one I've ever heard say you don't need those things on a monitor if your camera has them. I'm looking to get a field monitor because of my declining eyesight at 71 years old. With all I've told you what would you recommend , Thanks. Keith Now I must get back to your video.
Thank you for making these videos, but I'm in a bit of a dilemma; I'm using the GH4 and I'm looking for solutions to make it easier to pull focus and see framing when outside in bright sunlight. The LCD on the GH4 gives me awkward and annoying reflections, and since I just bought the V-log L upgrade the peaking on my camera has been super strong, and basically coloring in the entire screen. I've been thinking of buying a monitor, but what's been keeping me from it is the latency of most cheap monitors. Is saving up $600 for the SmallHD Focus worth it or should I go for something much more baseline like a LCD sun protector? Or are there options in between that won't give me a big delay when filming? Thanks again for making these videos!
Hello Martin, if you are looking for a monitor for easier to pull focus and see framing when out side in bright sunlight, I would like to introduce you an affordable solution, FEEWLORLD 279s 2200nits 4K HDMI video monitor, 7 inch ips screen, high brite and no latency, best mate for vlooging shooting: amzn.to/2OOe11j
I have a Nikon D750, and it's still going strong, but it doesn't have any extra features like zebra pattern, focus peaking and so on. Not sure which monitor to buy for it. I do both photography and video with it, and external recording feature would be nice as well, although not really a deal breaker if unavailable.
I bought a camera monitor for under $100 but I think I messed in buying it because the power supply requires to be plugged in with a regular plug or a cigarette lighter plug. Is there anything to work around this to make it portable like an adapter of some sort or do I have buy a camera monitor that uses batteries?
Maybe a really stupid question but I'm using a Panasonic G7 which is known for not providing an HDMI output while recording. Will I still have any benefits from using an external monitor or is it wiser to just stick with a Wifi-tablet solution with apps like the Panasonic Image app (which only gives me a 480p image) serving as a field monitor replacement?
Please can you help me. I’ve got a canon M50. I’ve just got a Neewer field monitor..NW708-m. I noticed on your ace videos you camera monitors work when the field monitors are plugged in. How do I set it up on m50 ??? I can’t find how
Thank you! Can you please tell me how to set up a 7 inch external monitor with a Canon XF100? I used the front shoe hole for my shotgun mic. Where do I position the monitor?
Hello Juhl, you can use a L shape swivel arm as monitor supporter, it has a shoe mount adapter, and 1/4 screw holes, you can mount on the XF100, Then you can fit your monitor and shotgun mic on the L shape arm, check here: amzn.to/2Bia1lZ
hey there , can you help me out please , i bought a viltrox dc-50 for my nikon d7000 so i can monitor sound since it has no headphone output and benefit from the focus peak feature , , but apparently i can onlyhear sound when i playback a video not in live view .. and also when i turn on the viltrox monitor , the camera monitor turns off , don't know if it's setting related , or just my d7000 don't have audio output and the other features .

Do these monitors allow you to record DSLR footage for unlimited time on SD until it's full? I ask specifically because my DSLR stops recording after 28 mins, and I'm looking to record for up to 2 hours
My Panasonic G7 does not support live HDMI output (it does not show video when the camera starts recording). Is there any way to update my camera or I'm stuck with it?
if we record with lower res monitor than our camera, which one that saved to card? example : if our camera can record 1920x1080, and our monitor only 720p, which one that saved to card?
I'm not sure if you have an answer to this. I have two Panasonics. I have the G7, and the newer model G85. Now when using the G7 and yes I'm not using a 4K monitor and using I feelfree 7" monitor when I hit record on the G7 the screen on the monitor shuts off? Would you or maybe someone looking at your comments have an answer or better yet a solution to this?
Hi I just wonder if you could help me I have a Nikon D850 and I need a field monitor because in the summer I want to go out and do loads of macro work can you help me choose a 7 inch monitor because now I cannot work anymore because of illness I'm gonna try and spend some time in the summer and get out a little bit more Many thanks
So ive heard that no Monitors are compatible with the Panasonic G7 I'm starting to think this is true as my Lilliput screen didnt work when I pressed record it just said recording in progress
Hi guys, I am planing to buy a monitor(small hd) for my Fujifilm XH-1 but my qurstion is; Small Hd Prices so close to Atomos Ninja V so what do you think i should go for Ninja V (i ll have a recorder at the same time) ??
Ok someone help me out here, I have a small screen that is just that. It's meant to be connected to another small screen with a disk drive (old fashioned way of watching movies in cars) so it is made to be connected to something Would I be able to hack or alter it so that I could connect it to the camera or something? I have a Canon EOS-M.
It's complex for me I have a Nikon D750 and want to buy a SmallHD Focus but neither SmallHD or Nikon can give me any information on how they would work together - so I'm just not purchasing until I see someone using them together.
Hi Caleb, I am shooting with a C100 and focusing is quite tedious. Is the Viltrox DC-70 HD a good choice? Is it possible to move the image when in Pixel to pixel or zoom? Thx for your answer and your informative channel.
Hey Caleb. Nice vid. Question though; what feature do I want to look for in a monitor that will allow me to know if I can use (and see) my touch screen settings. I have a Canon DSLR and my current monitor doesn't allow me to see the touch screens on the monitor. That sucks because when I plug in the monitor my DSLR screen goes black, which means I can't use them on the camera either and have to do all setups without the ability to use the touch screen. Thanks in advance!
Your Canon camera blacks out because it notices the active HDMI connection to the monitor. On a 7 D MkII for example you can mirror the HDMI output so both the camera and the monitor are active (they show the same information). Sadly the 7 D Mk II has no touchscreen. But on a 650 D / T4i for example you can use the Q button to activate the menu's you would normally use while touching the screen: use the Q button and the Arrow keys on your camera while looking at the monitor to see what you are doing. On a 650 D / T4i you cannot mirror the HDMI output. Hope this helps.
If you are in more of a permanent bigger studio situation when filming, can you just use a computer monitor (obviously not on top of the camera but maybe on a side desk) as a monitor for your camera so that you can have a much bigger screen? - Ari
