I found this Zomei filter on eBay for $10.49 in Jan-2022.

Just snagged a ZS8, so this looks tempting. Just to be certain, you didn't see a need to add a substitute piece of glass when you removed the IR filter from the sensor assembly? Thanks.

Correct. I got it cheap and was prepared to fail. Worked out fine.

How dark is the viewscreen? Can you see what your shooting with that filter on? Would be nice just to replace that IR blocker with a cut piece of filter.

I can see just fine. The image instead of being in color or in black and white is red and white but the viewing is easy and the autofocus still works great.

Sorry follow-up question: what kind of colours would u get if you don‘t put an Infrared lense in?

If you don't put an infrared lens on the front it will be almost a normal camera - I think. You need the infrared lens to limit the camera from picking up the visible light.
