Back around 1963, I loved taking my Austin Healy Sprite along North and South Creat Road as fast as it would go! Scared the hell outta my Mother the first and only time I took her up there. Did you know in the late 50s/early 60s, the most beautiful mansion was destroyed to make the "Ridge Cut"? It was above a bend in the road and had a number of cannons in the yard near the rock retaining wall. Such a shame.
The mica material may be something left from refurbishing the Ohio Monument a little over a year ago. There was a class from an Ohio elementary school that raised the money too have the work done. The students traveled from Ohio and were hosted by McCallie School while they were here. The trail mentioned in the audio leads down to McCallie and was used during the dedication of the refurbished monument to travel to and from the park.
Actually, that's not the "top" of Cameron Hill where the old park was located. That was leveled in 1960 when they cut down Cameron Hill. There is nothing left of the old park.
The Play Boy Bunny in the tiki house was cool, you could swim up the bunnies ears to the bedrooms The master overlooked the city and the ear came up by the bed
+Bob Zendejas My brother in law and I were up at the Sherman Reservation about 30 years ago and the cannon had been damaged then. Somebody had used a hacksaw and cut off the part missing. I haven't been back up there since then and figured it may have been repaired, but seems it hasn't.
Have you been back to the first stop, on this journey, since the highway was expanded? I noticed there had been a round monument on the spot. I wonder what happened to it. Has there been any restoration or replacement of the plaques that had been removed?
