Camila just let it happen and by being a bystander, you are guilty. Normani is by far the most talented in the group and I've always enjoyed her music, vocal ability, and stage presence more. She's absolutely stunning and she deserves our support. The whole black community does. If you're not black, you can't tell black people how to feel or accept apologies on behalf of them, PERIOD.

Racism from the Latino community is actually a huge thing. I’m half Puerto Rican half black. When my mom brought my dad home my grandfather wasn’t having it. Took him a while to come around. Even my grandma (R.I.P) she always treated me different than my full Puerto Rican cousins up till right before she passed. When she apologized, she said it tormented how she was with me. All that said, this isn’t a shock, it’s a reality, we all have to do better. Subconsciously or not we have to do a better job of addressing our deeper prejudices and unpack why we feel the way we do.

OK so here is my story, when I first wrote my response to the video I was not in a place of humility. I was irritated and infuriated by the video and I believed myself to be better than a racist. Then when you came to rebuke the spirit in my words I still could not see that I was not being humble THAT was how I felt then. Fast forward to now, well on sunday evening three young men went to my neighborhood park and open fire upon four of my six sons. The one of my sons that they hit and critically injured was my thirteen year old. I had both older and a younger son their which thanks to the MOST High were not hurt. However I was very angry when responding to you in my last post. And felt justified in it while still dealing with this situation that my family is in, I attacked your having the nerve to call upon me or anyone else to be the better people. To be the light to the world, or to be better than those that do not walk in light. All the while not really being aware that my visceral rage was more for my current situation than any perceived offense from you, or those that would hate me because of my heritage. But as I sit and pray at my young sons bed side in the ICU, it fully weighs upon me the magnitude of my words. Both then and now. Although I asked, I did not expect you to have a response for my question, and further still I did not expect it to be the one you gave. When you responded I did not see you for who I believe you to be at this moment. And that is a person sent to give me a word of correction. It is unfortunate the level of racism that takes place within the Latin community. Me being of Afro Puerto Rican, and black-white mix descent, and having grown up in California around Mexicans, I was constantly picked on for having a Hispanic last name, but having kinky curly hair, or having my hair in braids , or being told that my lips were too big, or that my ass was huge. this has been talked about by Amara La Negra, and there have been so many other examples of racism within the Hispanic Community against blacks / afro Latinos. It does need to be stopped, and consistently addressed where it occurs.
