Interesting video. In August of 2000 I walked down the very same Cathedral steps to begin my walk. I missed the first turn and kept going for a few blocks before realizing my error. Went back found the turn and began tentatively in the correct direction. This was confirmed shortly by a french woman hiking with her family who kindly helped me confirm my direction. Bart mentions smelling cow manure - which made me laugh. For me that was the scent of France all the way to the Spanish border. If Bart passes up staying in Gites he will miss out on meeting lots of other people walking the Camino. If were not for the Gites I never would have met the woman I married and for whom I moved to France. Been here 24 years now and have no regrets.
Finally got around to watching Day 1 in your series. Sorry, but I skipped your “another gear video” but will watch it sometime. Apart from a bit of facial hair in later videos you start off with your wonderful sense of humour and candid observations which has not dissipated over your pilgrimage.
Amazing epic journey Bart! Your video is beautiful. I have been traveling quite a bit in Europe over the last decade and the sights you show on this first day are priceless. Can't wait to see the rest of your journey. Very impressive what you are doing. And showing! Cheers!
