Thought I would share my Fall camino experience. I started my camino on September 15th 2016 from St. Jean. I found this time of year was busy enough to where you never felt alone, but also very easy to separate yourself from the crowd. I kept hearing rumours about how busy it gets in Saria but the albergue I stayed at in the centre of the city only had one other pilgrim. I had a couple of nights where I was the only one. Beautiful time of year

My experience in Sarria was the same. I think so many new ones have opened that currently supply exceeds demand if you find the right ones! Cheers

Hi Lindsey, you're a rockstar! Very impressed by the content and breadth of your videos. I've done a lot of long distance trekking but can't wait for my Camino in May. The info you provide is very practical and nothing can replace the experience of someone who's done it. Keep the videos coming and happy trails for 2017. Tony

BUSHCRAFT AND FISHING WITH THE PIKEY, i would suggest the Camino Norte as a preferred route if you like more solitude. Even in the busier Spring season when the Camino Frances begins to get crowded, the Norte remains more sparsely populated, and more daily alone time. I heard this from multiple people who walked that route when i met them near the end of my Fances route last May.
@bathedinridicule
@bathedinridicule 7 лет назад
Chris has a good point, consider doing an alternate route if solitude is a priority for you. :)

Discovered your videos today and they are wonderful. Considering hiking the Camino Frances in the fall. How much of your time was spent on asphalt roads? Came across a video in my Internet travels today which essentially said that 95% of the Camino you are on a road not a trail and the road noise was ever present even when you were not on a trail.
@bathedinridicule
@bathedinridicule 7 лет назад
95% is certainly an over-exaggeration. There are times when you have to go along a busy road, but they are few and far between. Often it may be paved but is either a small, quiet path, or going through deserted rural hamlets.

HI Lindsey, thank you for this video, I'm lucky to find your videos now. Planning Camino de santiago French way, this time only from Pamplona to Burgos in Xmas time 2017(22nd - 31st?). As my first time doing proper camino (did one day camino Roncesvalles - Zubili in May), I'm bit scared of the unknown weather as people say it's harsh, cold and raining all the time (true?) My question is did you use "PONCHO" in winter north Camino route? Worth to buy it and pack in when any slight weight to go in the bag is crucial? Saw many pictures pilgrims wore ponchos in rain,.... Thank you Lindsey, Kumi

Hey Lindsey! Glad to see you still posting! All of your videos were great assistance when i was planning my camino of last Spring! Such an incredible experience! I completed half of the Lycian Way in Turkey last November and am returning to finish it this May; also a fantastic and beautiful walk. thrilled to see a blog. how much time should I realistically be there and should I book a one way flight
@georgiamatthews2904
@georgiamatthews2904 7 лет назад
your time spent there depends on your walking speed, as well as how far you plan to walk etc. I will be walking the camino for the first time this year, and have decided to book a one way flight, considering that I dont know for sure exactly how long it will take me, nor do I want to put a time constriction on my walk, so i will be booking my return flight once I arrive in Santiago. My flights however are only to London, so you may need to reconsider depending on where you are flying from.

It has been FOREVER since you posted. I'm still waiting for a post-2016 Camino gear review. I also think it would be cool (if you plan to do another Camino soon) to do a vlog series dedicated to planning, preparing, and executing your Camino that outlined step by step how you prepare, how you book, etc. Though, really, when it's been this long any kind of video will do!!!

Hi Lindsey, I love your videos, very informative! :) I was wondering what your thoughts were on sleeping in a tent during the french way route. I find it very hard to sleep in the same room as other people, it gets me all anxious as i had an operation on my middle ear and it left me with chronic tinnitus which becomes an issue at night when it raises its ugly head! My plan is to camp every night, i know that the added weight will be a pain but its something i will have to get used to. Do you think that ill be able to sleep within the grounds of the albergues? For a small fee they may let me still use the facilities perhaps!? Any advise would be great! Many Thanks Daniel

Hi, Lindsey, love your videos! I'm planning my own Camino and I have a question I hope you can answer. I'm a bit of an outdoorsman and I like sleeping outdoors. I understand that there are plenty of alburgues (I don think I spelled that right) and I know I will have to overnight at some of them, but I would prefer to minimize that as much as possible. How realistic is that? I'm planning to do the Camino Frances in April/May of 2018.
@bathedinridicule
@bathedinridicule 7 лет назад
Hi Marty! I can definitely relate. If I were to go back, I'd probably try and bring a tent and camp out as much as I could. The only problem is that you'd probably often find yourself camping on private property. I'm not sure of the logistics of it all. There are probably blogs or experiences written out there by folks who did in mostly in tents. I'm sure it would be a lovely way to do the Camino! Good luck.

I'm planning to go to Camino France's on the first week of March. How should I pack? Pack like winter or spring?
@markmacfarlane3169
@markmacfarlane3169 7 лет назад
I did it in Feb-March 2013 and it was lovely! It was snowy and there was only a few people at St Jean so we had a nice intimate group. I liked it so much that I will be doing St jean to Finisterre this Feb too. After that I am thinking about Lisbon to Satiago although I have heard that Porto is more viable due to Lisbon not being so well supported. I am open to any advice regarding that.

Hi! Thanks for your videos. I am planning my first Camino this year in either July or August. If you were to pick, which month will you choose, July or August and why? Is camping an option too? Based on my calculations, if i were to walk 6 hours a day (that's already minus breaks and other stops), I'll complete the walk from St. Jean to Camino in 22 days. Is that realistic? How long did it take you on your first walk. Thanks and cheers. Jun
@bathedinridicule
@bathedinridicule 7 лет назад
Do you mean from St-Jean to Santiago? Jeez, how fast do you walk?? It's certainly not impossible, but that would be walking nearly 7 km/hour. I'd say I averaged about 5 km/hour minus stops, and that pace seemed to be on the faster-than-average pace. My first one took 32 days.

I will be planning to hike the camino starting in St Jean some time around the second week in January. This will be my first camino, but is the only time I have available to do this hike. Where can I find reputable information about available housing for this time of year. Also, are the mountains passable in January, or will I have to get around them somehow? I will be traveling down from Paris, and planned on taking a train to St Jean. Please help.

The albergues have laundry spots. Usually hand wash/hang to dry, occasionally you'll come across machines. All fine and dandy unless it's cold and pouring rain every day, in which case I opted to not wash my stuff very much because it would always still be cold and wet the next morning haha
