Nice one me arl fella was a brazer,uncle sparky ,i should of done my apprenticeship their but got hoffman. It was my father who alongside the yts students at monks ferry built the yellow submarine for the garden festival. Thanks for the upload I'll be showing me dad.🍺🍺
I worked in Lairds as a stager, starting in 1964, then a crane drver. It was hard graft with the stagers, but much easier as a crane driver. At that time there were upwards of 80 cranes in the yard. Now there is only one outside crane and a few gantry cranes in the shipbuilding hall. I finished up as driver of the 50 ton crane at No 1 dock which was the northern most drydock alongside Woodside ferry. Made redundant in 1979, I enjoyed working at Lairds, and made many friends there, sadly most of them now gone.

@@boyfromblackstuff7859 The Unions just provided ammunition for the politico's (both parties ) " CUSTOM & PRACTICE " was the cry when anything modern was introduced , and were easily goaded into strikes over anything .
