In our ever continuing series of campground reviews in the Canadian Rockies, we stop to review one of the largest campgrounds in Jasper National Park, Wapiti Campground.
Its opening dates for 2023 were May 17 to October 9 and it has 363 reserveable campsites. The daily fees vary between $38 & $43 (2023 rates) depending on services (electrical) or unserviced. All sites contain firepits with picnic table along with access to two different showers, seven stand-alone washrooms (with running water) and four cooking shelters.
On the shore of the Athabasca River, Wapiti Campground has sites for tenting and electrical hook-up spots for RVs. Can accommodate most sizes of motorhomes and trailers. To ensure the safety of campers, many dead and dying pine trees affected by mountain pine beetle have been removed from Wapiti Campground. This work protects campers and campground infrastructure from falling trees, and helps reduce the risk of wildfire.
Check out our channel for more videos like these, in 2023 we created a video of each campground in Jasper National Park & Banff National Park plus a few more just outside the parks that would be relevant to your travels within David Thompson Country or Yoho National Park.

You're only paying for the view here. I camped here because I was absolutely desperate to find a place to crash for the night. zero privacy, bathrooms were absolutely disgusting (mud, old bandaids on the floor), the area for motorhomes to park is nothing more than a gravel parking lot, which they should be ashamed of charging so much for. But! it is open year round. I grabbed a tent site and camped in my van. Tried talking to my neighbors across from me as there was no privacy I wanted to introduce myself and say hello. they reacted like I was a serial killer or something and avoided me entirely. I'm a super friendly person and this kind of disturbed me. maybe they just weren't used to camping. either way, I left this place probably more tired than when I pulled in. Would not suggest it.
