That truly was a clever fix. The original manufacturer of the shelf accessory owes you. I think giving you one of their flat top metal covers should do the trick!
You are a very smart guy to have figured all that out. You could have just made your own modification and not bothered to share. Sharing this video was awesome of you. I have a camp chef grill and will order this rack and show my husband your video. Thanks so much. Also loved your video on how to clean the flat top. Thanks for that too!
Hi there. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. That’s the beauty of RU-vid. I’ve received so much help on projects over the years from video creators. My way of giving back. Glad this video was helpful. This access is a must have! Please subscribe and stay safe and healthy. All the Best-
This is an excellent accessory. You will not be disappointed. This is definitely a must have accessory with this grill. You will have to do a little modification as the shelf is unstable. Check out my video to remedy that. Stay safe and healthy and have a happy new year!
I am going to give this a whirl except I want to attach the board to the legs of the griddle using magnets. That way the concern of corrosion is a non issue and no zip ties and easy on and off.
That’s an excellent idea!!!’ Thank you for watching and commenting. You can buy very strong magnets at Harbor Freight. They have a good selection of magnets.
Why didn’t you use some self tapping screws and screw the bracket brace to the legs instead of the tie straps...they really cheapen up the look of a nice modification.
Hi there. I do agree with you. I was trying to keep the modification as simple as possible without drilling holes into the legs thus crating more risk for rust to take over. I should have mentioned the option of drilling and using self-tapping screws. Good point. Honestly, I havent noticed the tie-wraps at all because the stainless steel shelf is so attrractive! LOL Thank you for watching / appreciate your input.
should paint the wood! it gets wet, wicks moisture. soon you will have rust. Also hope you purchased stainless washers and bolts for electrolysis. while typing, you said painted
I painted the wood strip. Also, I was sure to use hard wood so it will have some longevity and resist the elements a little better. Thanks for watching and commenting. Stay safe!!!
I wonder if you got the wrong one. The one linked to Amazon for Camp Chef is aluminum diamond plate, the stainless steel one you have is for Blackstone. Different ways to be attached as well. The fact you got it to work is really all that matters though, and the stainless steel also fits the grill better since it is all stainless, where the diamond tread aluminum would look better on the all black Blackstone.
No I got the correct one from Backyard Lifegear. They offer the shelf both in smooth stainless steel and diamond plate. The brackets that came with the shelf would never fit the Blackstone. My instruction booklet says the Camp Chef and shows the same screw holes for the brackets. I don’t like diamond plate so much that’s why I didn’t choose that particular design.
You’ll love this bottle shelf. I couldn’t imagine not having it now. I keep my grill in the garage so I don’t have a cloth or plastic cover but I do have this Hinged Grill Cover: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9h-uxURkzCs.html
At 0.53 He talks about drilling holes if there aren’t any. Has anyone tried to drill through Stainless steel? It’s really hard to drill Stainless. You need Carbide bits, and it’s still really difficult.
Great comment. Stainless steel can be difficult to drill but, there is a technique that helps immensely. I’ve drilled a lot of stainless items. A carbide bit is great but a regular high-speed steel bit will work well also. Drill as slowly as your motor will turn, keeping the heat from building. That’s the key- low heat! Use a little oil for a lubricant/coolant. This particular product probably isn’t the best quality stainless out there PLUS it’s not overly thick. Thank you for watching and commenting. Stay safe!!!!
Does the 1/2" push the bottom out or is it straight up and down? Thinking I might do this with 1/4" stainless I have. I don't have the griddle or tray yet. They'll be here Wednesday.
It only blocks a portion of the access. You can still use the side or back. In my opinion, the shelf is much more important to have than front easy shelf access. Plus, I ALWAYS have a bottle of beer sitting in the shelf when cooking!!! Must have!!!!
Hi Paul. I did reach out to backyard Life Gear. It’s a small family owned business. The owner said that he has received a complaint before with regards to this and that they are going to look into redesigning the product to correct this issue. Thank you for watching. Stay safe and please subscribe. Best Wishes.
