During its three years of operation only one prisoner escaped from Camp Crossville, the German Prisoner of war camp in Pamona. Not far from highway 70 you can still find the remnants of this World War II historic site. Now the largest 4-H camp in Tennessee, Camp Crossville is one of the little known stories from the Tennessee's Plateau region, and is told here by Randy Williams, Director of Cultural Resources Management at the Upper Cumberland Development District.

Stayed at Camp Crossville as 4-H member in 1957-1958 from Trousdale County Tn. We stayed in the barracks. Meals were cooked in the old Mess Hall. We were there for five days and all had a great time. The infirmary was outside our buildings but as boys we visited. Examined the operating room with the big lights. In the rec..hall there was a mural painted by the prisoners. Have found the buildings were torn down and no memories were preserved.
