My current camp shoe configuration is a pair of Rab hot socks (synthetic insulated sock) and teva sandals. I like the sock + sandal combo because I can wear the sandals just on their own, or with the socks (for warmer option around side) and then I can also wear just the socks (without sandals) at night for sleeping. I have a pair of the north face mules I use for slippers at home too, but I wouldn't wear something like that in the sleeping bag because it would get too dirty. The combo of teva's + hot socks is definitely a bit heavier than something like the exped slippers, but I'm ok with that to have a bit of extra weight in exchange for versatility.

Your camp shoe setup sounds really practical! The versatility of the sock and sandal combo is definitely a smart choice for camping. Comfort is key when you're out in the wild!

You could also try some Xero Genesis sandals. Probably the most minimalist sandal around and it's great to just slide on in camp. Weighs almost nothing too. Their aqua cloud is even better if you're looking to walk through water and want some extra grip.

They look great! I am very interested!

If I'm going through water I chuck the laces inside the boots and use them, if not I'm in socks in the tent. Heck it's good to get out of the boots but it's a luxury. We walked through NZ and used the back country hut pass to the Max. Travelling through to multiple hikes we just carried sandshoes as a way of relieving the feet and walking in towns when we needed to.

I always try to use a camp shoe that serves me as a river crossing shoe. 2 for 1. (except during Winter camping...Booties are great)

I ran a line of seam sealer around the bottom seam + sprayed the top of mine with a bit of that nikwax DWR spray. so more leaks from suprise puddles on the way to the hut loo in the rain :-)

i found the perfect camp shoe, the ultralight mayflys, except i made my own from scrap corflute to save $90USD, 55g for the pair and they’re great! they look funny but they weigh nothing

They look interesting. I might have to have a crack at making some myself. Thanks!

Great knowledge and experience and very helpful. I'm lucky to be on the coast of mid NSW so get away with trail runner most of the year, so I don't really need camp shoes. I am glad I watched this as I am planning a late summer trek in Tasmania this year and have heard the temperature hype around it.

Yep, if it’s wet and cold the camp shoes are a lovely luxury in Tassie!

Great video Mowser! Maybe they're out there somewhere but I haven't seen a camp shoe episode like this before. I was using Joto water shoes from Amazon, basically an ultralight ultraslim neoprene shoe with rubber sole and they were great until I did the Overland where walking in snow was an issue. Didn't want to get my socks wet. So I found the Montane camp slippers, not the same as the booties they look exactly like the expeds you showed. Anyway, maybe they're not as good as keeping water out, I'll keep that in mind. Cheers.

Are yes, I think I did try the Jotos a fair while ago! Still have them somewhere. Haven’t seen the montane slippers but will have a look!

Mayfly Ultralight Equipment makes a camp sandal which is 1.8 ounces per pair and for a lighter version of crocs try the Amoji garden clogs. These are about 8 ounces per pair.

@@mowsertas actually now I like the Teva Hurricane Drift best. they are 4 ounces lighter than crocs per pair, and stable enough for river, lake or light day hiking.

Hey Mowser, looking for some advice!! I have always done overnight trips and had to survive those hard yards with a meal of tomahawk steaks and veg topped of veg. Breakfast was always a coffee then kf for a burger back in town. Now I'm doing multiday hikes I'm looking for decent dehydrated meals available in Aus. Any advice.

I have been using Campers Pantry dehydrated meals regularly for a number of years. Made in Tassie and are good tasting and filling meals in a variety of types. Also have recently been using Radix meals which come in different sizes and flavours. Have been enjoying them and now normally take a variety of both. Both are freeze dried. Both are available online or at hiking stores. Another option is Tassie made Strive dehydrated meals. They are not bad either. For breakfast I normally take one of Radix or Campers Pantry OR just take some granola mixed with milk powder in a snap lock. Lunches vary but generally a wrap of some sort. Check out this vid to see what i took on a recent 9 day trip: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6I-0sngHlAU.html
