The Campbell Creek Dam was completed in 1919, creating a reservoir that supplied water to a cotton mill a few kilometers away in Marysville. The mill stopped making textiles in the 1970s, but the dam hung on and fell into disrepair. ASF, the Nashwaak Watershed Association, Maliseet Nation Conservation Council teamed up with the City of Fredericton, which owned the dam, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada which funded the project. The dam was removed in 2021 and the site replanted and restored. In 2023, an environmental DNA survey found that Atlantic salmon and other had returned to Campbell Creek.

Well done everyone involved, long term these positive caring efforts will make a difference. In the UK we are following suit especially in Scotland to remove dams that have no purpose in order for migratory species such as salmon can reconnect to their historical spawning grounds.

This is a very good thing. I hope the archaeologist was able to tell something about the ancient civilization which constructed the dam as well. 🙃

Are there any beavers in the Campbell Creek Watershed? Hopefully, riparian zone trees will be restored in the riparian zone instead of upland trees. Do the local people believe in coevolution in the stream environment or is their mindset Atlantic Salmon and the destruction of the other native species of fish in the stream? (DNR's and trout people usually refer to other native fish as rough fish)

Natures conversations get interrupted by big ideas. People need reminders of how they operate and how to respect them, natures conversations that live and provide us our needs in due season need maintenance without interruption. Just a country boy who has seen both sides of the coin.

Fascinating. Thank you. Although, I don't know how valuable the Marxist interpretation is 0:33 other than for pandering.
