Thank you! It's really great to get the low-level detail on the construction and possible cause of the shade not latching down. In our case, the metal pin was NOT pushed up, so it appears it is a broken plastic piece in the latch mechanism (though I haven't disassembled it to verify), so I'll be ordering a replacement from Irvine Shade & Door.

Our sticky double side tape came off so canvas started to slip and it did not want to retract so it was a 2 for one for us.
