Hiking and Wild camping alone in horrible weather conditions which included torrential and consistent rain. I was trapped alone in a tent for 16 hours with the rain pouring on my tent!
Hello everyone! Welcome back! So for this trip I decided to solo camp on a wee hill with great views over Edinburgh. The hike up was very soggy and pitching the tent in heavy rain was not much fun. Although the weather was harsh I did get a good cloud inversion over Edinburgh and the views up North were great!

Ah this brings back happy memories for me, there's not nothing as rewarding as being out in the wilds, waking up in a warm snug tent in the hills, and the sound of the rain on the tent, always loved that sound right from a early age, its so claiming and soothing, love it. 😎

I've always wanted to visit Scotland, Wales, Ireland and all of the surrounding countries. I want to see the old castles, the ruins, the beautiful rolling green hills. It just all seems so very lush. Hi, this is the first time I’ve watched you. I love the sound of rain on the tent. I would have no trouble falling asleep with it. I bet it’s pretty there when the sun is shining. I hope you have a good day when you tear down your tent. I think I’d wait till it stops raining. I feel bad when people have to put up and take down their tent in the rain. Those hills were where I first did some mountain biking ages ago. Long gradual climbs. Usually muddy.

J'apprécie fortement le Helm 1 pour les randonnées. C'est génial pour l'été, mais il fera aussi bien la plupart des nuits d'hiver. Une bonne tente si vous avez un budget limité. ATB Gaz. I highly rate the Helm 1 for hikes. It is great for the summer, but it will also do well on most winter nights. A great tent if you're on a budget. ATB Gaz.

Nice video Gaz. I love walking in the Pentland Hills, nice to see some familiar sights there through the rain. I was up at East & West Cairn Hill last week, near the Cauldstane Slap. A very windy spot, have you tried camping there? Could be worth a visit.

Pentlands is always a good option at this time of the year. I’ll try go up North every weekend but it’s a good back up. I’ve never done west Cairn or east Cairn but I’ll probably walk it first and maybe camp another time. Thanks James👍 ATB Gaz

If you can be bothered; it's better to pack the inner away seperately first into a drysack and then store the wet outer fly on it's own in the bottom of the pack. This way, you prevent the inner getting wet and also have cover from the rain while packing everything else away.

I’ve done it in the past. Definitely something I should continue doing to be fair. I would pack the inner and fly separate on multi day trips if the fly got wet. I have never done 2 or 3 nights away yet. ATB Gaz.

I don’t support either of the two teams you’ve mentioned. I do enjoy watching Rangers and Celtic play each other. It’s the Premier League down south I mainly follow. Scottish Football is too predictable and boring. I think the Helm 2 is the better option for solo camping. Helm 1 does feel a bit small to be honest. ATB Gaz.

When I bought the Helm 1 I never really seen the benefits of a double zip because I was new to camping. I would always check tents in the future for a double zip now. ATB Gaz.

Your a brave man going out knowing it was going to be a wet one, my pet hate is packing away a wet tent... Saying that my Helm 1C did me well recently on the WHW and as others have said definitely pack the inner away first to keep it dry, learnt that the hard way. Love how spacious it feels. Just wondering how easy it is getting out to the Pentland Hills from Edinburgh using public transport?

My knowledge on the hills is good but the public transport I’ve no idea about because I always drive there. Check the walk highlands website for the Pentlands. It will cover the public transport and how to get there. I usually only do one nights away but on a trip where I’m doing three or four nights I would definitely split the inner and fly if the fly was wet👍 ATB Gaz.

Evening mate, wet, windy, sunny camp is a good camp... An you have got some top end tents mate. I've been looking at the vango hydra 200. Some people have used it in snow, rain an high winds... An it looks the biz mi friend. But I can't afford one yet.. So take care mi friend. Tc Andy 👍💪✌️🔥

Cheers Andy. I usually use the same three tents but it’s been a while since I last used the Helm 1. I’ve also looked at the Hydra but it’s the weight that puts me off it even though it’s a decent size. Whenever I’m in the camping shops I always look at another tent to potentially buy. MSR access 1 and the Hilleberg Akto are tents I’m considering next. ATB Gaz.

Theres something about camping out in the rain that just sends me off to a great sleep. Need to get back out but work has been so overwhelming recently. I took the decision to not work on Wednesdays from now on,( one of the perks of being self employed), so hopefully I get out soon. All the best Gaz.

Really enjoying the Summit to Eat meals Jenny👍 Going back to the Wayfayrer meals for tomorrow’s camp. I’ve just bought more summit to eat meals today. The Helm 1 is a good tent as long as it’s not too windy as I found out last year. Only camped in a Lanshan once I plan to use it next year. ATB Gaz👍

It’s a tent I hardly use but I’m trying out different tents at the moment. I’ve got a tent on order that should hopefully arrive this weekend. Agree with you on the space but it’s still a good wee tent for most people👍 Thanks Terry, ATB

I have often been stuck in a tent in the rain its borig after a whie watching someonestuckin a tent in the rain is to make being bored a kind of hobby , weird.

Every hobby has it’s positives and negatives. If I’m honest I prefer a dry camp but don’t mind the occasional trip in the rain. ATB Gaz.
