I’m a many year camper. Start a tote with dish soap, scrubber garbage bags and other things you needed each time. I just restock when we get home. Having a list taped in the lid is awesome too. I also keep a selection of ziplock bags for easy food storage.
Hint: pots and pans can get burned easily when cooking over a campfire. Solution: Spread dish soap over the bottom and up the sides. Let it mostly dry. (With the dish soap coating the outside of the pot or pan, the fire will burn the soap, which will wash off, and not burn your pots and pans Hope this is helpful for you.
I had several large totes that I kept full of cleaned towel, dish towels, dish rags, clothes pegs, clothesline. One tote with paper plates, disposable cutlery, cups, napkins, paper towels, toilet paper, garbage bags, dish soap, hand soap and another tote with camping toaster, kettle, pots, pans, cooking utensils, tin foil and wash basin and all my camping spices, coffee tea and drink crystals. I kept all this in my basement ready to go and all I had to worry about was food and clothes
Just want to tell you what a phenomenal mom and all around person that I find you to be. I am 72 years old and live a pretty lazy life due to pain. You my ,dear lift my spirits every day. And I want to thank you for not exploiting your children, on you tube as so many people do. What a glorious life God has bestowed upon you. Thank you so kindly for sharing it with us. God Bless you and yours.
Enjoyed your camping trip! When our family would go camping we would freeze our homemade chili and soups and pack them in our ice chest to keep other food cold, and then they were just right to warm up over the camp fire.
I don't know if it helps, but, I email myself lists. That way, i always know where they are. If I want to add anything to the list, I forward the previous list to myself adding the item. I think it makes lists easier.
Jamerill, my families favorite campfire breakfast meal was fried potatoes, scrambled eggs, with polish sausage and cheese bell peppers and onions soooo yummy
Try using those square cookers for making fried pies. Clamp them together and spray well with buttery cooking spray. Put pie filling in between and close them up. Cook over the fire, turning from side to side. When done sprinkle with confectioners sugar. So good but the filling will be hot and need a few minutes to cook.
We have the same can! The town n country! I love mine! I’ve been so happy with it! How do u like urs? Does urs have the sunroof n chrome side view mirrors?
I never catch u this early in a video, I'm so stoked to have the first comment!! I love watching u and what u do feeding people who look like u!! I've tried many of ur recipes just not in the amount u make. I'm a family of 4 adults. Thank u for all u do to show folks how to cook big batch meals, I'm sure u are an inspiration to many mommas out there!! U are doing great work, please never stop as u are very much needed in this world!! Big hugs from a big fan in Alaska!!😊
I’ve been a camper fir 60 years from a pup tent to a huge fifth wheel, . Make a checklist and put a large electric skillet or griddle on it. You will thank me later.
I love that you're now on your second camping trip. What a healthy escape from life while learning more about self sufficiency and confidence. I know it's weird since I know you're not doing this for me, nor do you know me, but I'm so proud to know such a wonderful woman. Enjoy those smoze!
I recognize your hiking spot. When we came to visit the caverns and the frontier museum we rented an air bnb close to that lake you hiked around. We enjoyed it so much. You are building dreams for those kiddos that they will never forget. My grown kids still talk about our camping adventures. Fun mom! It’s hard work on the adults but I promise you that you will look back on it as some of the best times!
Oh Jamerrill I just love your camping videos, I am in Pennsylvania and our camping season has pretty much come to an end, unless you have a camper, but to see you making it work is so nice I just love it❤
1 of each box noddles to give it a different sizes and it makes it fun because it eyes are playing games...I have done this so many times over the years and different sizes - styles- flavors .... gave it a try trying new things ❤❤ ❤❤ ❤❤ ❤❤ ❤❤
You will have to make yourself a printable master list for camping. It’s all your upcoming camping adventures having principles would come in handy. I felt bad for you having a kneel down to do those dishes. I just wanted you sitting on one of your food grade. Buckets turned upside down. Looks like fun was had by everybody! Hooray!
Hey Jamerrill. We camped all year round when our son was younger. You will figure all this out, but just a quick FYI. Get you a tote or whatever and pack it with all utensils, plastic dishes, pans, toiletries, clothing, towels, dish towels, bedding, etc. This stays packed after washing snd restocked, and all you have to do for each trip is buy food. Really helped in pulling the trip together. Love from Tennessee!
Hobo packs! Tinfoil wrap with potatoes (and other veggies - carrots, onions, ect) with a burger pattie or meatloaf patty with seasonings put on the fire and cook til done (potatoes soft, meatloaf done). My mom would make these to be the first dinner of the camping trip. Also: we would do this when we went to Fishnet in Front Royal back in the 80s!
My parents took us tent camping every year (9 kids and mom & dad), in upper Canada (we lived in eastern Michigan, the thumb area), at the end of September! I can’t believe how much I took for granted, that my mom and dad made us hot breakfasts, and packed lunches for all day hikes, and when we returned, we had a hot meal ready for us, because they would put roasts or chickens in two to three cast iron Dutch ovens, with carrots and potatoes, and would bury them in the fire pit, putting hot coals on top! We would eat every last morsel of food! Somehow, cooking over a fire and hiking all day, really works up the appetite! My brother was only 2 years old and spilled a cup of very hot,hot chocolate on his leg. He was in a sleeper, so when they took the sleeper off, it took his skin off too! They had to find a hospital in Northern Canada, with no help from cellphones or gps devices! This was in the early 70s! We were all traumatized, but thankfully, God healed him and he has no scars, and is now 55 years old!!! Hot beverages are no joke! I was reminded of our incident when you put cold water in with your young son’s hot chocolate!

I have a Coleman camp stove. The gas version. Works great and it cooks like home. An outdoor store can hook you up with the latest camping things. My favorite things to make are homemade banana pancakes. In that fire, wrap veggies, potatoes, chicken, with butter and seasoning, sealed in foil, individually. Toss in that fire. Cook till done. I wing it on timing. All comes out great. Fun for kiddos.
We call them “mountain pie” makers. Suggestion for you is to butter your bread or spread out your fat on the cooking iron. Dollops don’t seem to do well for us. They won’t stick as much on the irons that way. Pizzas, fruit filling…Your options are endless with those wonders! We use ours over our back deck fire pit table so the fun continues in the back yard. So yummy! Enjoy your adventures!
Your kiddos will have THE BEST memories of family camping. I remember as a child the camping, fires, hikes & playing games & running around. Dollar tree glow sticks were always a hit with my kiddos when we would take them camping. Glow sticks & flashlight tag. Anything to run out that energy. ❤
We tent camped regularly for years. Now we live full time in a camper. When we tent camped with our littles (25+ years ago)I created a camping kitchen tote. It had everything we needed, trash bags, dish soap, dishes, pans, etc. I’d restock it before we put it away after every trip. Many items purchased at thrift stores. It was a life saver when we decided to make a last minute camping trip
Check list is what I do for every road trip and vacation. However I start months in advance, just incase I find I need to get something. My son says why we need all these things, lol ok first aud kit , incase you need a bandaid , a sewing kit, case you rip a hole, pop a sean loose a button, dish soap, sponge and scrubber, yes to wash our dishes, a ziploc bag of drink mixes, condiments packs, napkins and plastic ware from fast food place. Yeah they come in hand for all trips. Sure I pack what seems like why items, but each of these travel small items have come in handy. And since they are small or travel items, it takes up no space. Oh don't forget things like Tylenol, or other meds. You never know. You will do great, just each time you go make those notes. Having fun is all that matters.
We were in our pop up. Made it 5 nights before we had to abandon ship and bring the camper home to ride out hurricane Helene. We're in the upstate of SC :-) the campground is closed now for clean up so we will miss the rest of our 2 week trip. Hope to go tent camping some like you are for a couple nights each time. Thanks for sharing. I've always wanted to try those campfire coolers. Looks like it went well. 5 boys over here so you are super woman camping with your large crew :-) hard work but worth it
Love that you are trying out camping. My entire family and I gave been camping for years! May i suggest a small propane grill, we have one called "GRILL TO GO". Small enough to pack in the car but big enough to grill hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, eggs, bacon etc... LOL it would be plenty big enough for you family. Hope you are enjoying camping. I have so many great memories!
Baby steps to camping, you will be a pro before long! If the family gets over whelmed at the beginning , you may give up completely. Take it slow and learn as you go, best way hun. Have fun with it all and enjoy life!❤❤
A folding lifeline table would be helpful for dish washing and extra storage for items leaving the picnic table for other things. Easier on the back too! ❣️
What we always had to do for camping is a large plastic bin and a trip to the dollar store for garbage bags, plastic bowls for mixing, paper towels, scrubbies, etc. That was our "camp kitchen" and the stuff stayed in there. I think we did finally tape a list of what was supposed to be in there so we could check it before we loaded the bin in the car. We also had a smaller one for first aid and things like bug spray and sunscreen. Like the camp kitchen, it stayed packed and could just be tossed in the car when ready to go. Camping is the best!
whoo hoo, First !!1 My son is GF, he not celiac but we try very hard to be fully GF. He likes the buns by Shar and their white artisan bread really toasts up nice and it makes good grill cheese. They make a little roll that looks like a mini sub bun that works well for a hot dog roll :) They also make a very nice little snack cake. I searched for a long time to find a GF bread with the best ingredients I could find, Shar recently reformulated and removed the soy which was FANTASTIC !!
Hi Jamerrill. I'm just wondering why you just didn't bring a cast iron skillet for the eggs? Those little ones you used seem like they would be a pain to clean. Hope you have many more fun trips. you'll forget less stuff the more you go. Oh nevermind about those little cookers I see everyone got to cook their own. Now I get it.
Hi! A little tip for you might be to make a camping bin that has all the wires, plugs, batteries, coffee filters, thrift store kettle, thrift store coffee maker, utensils, frying pans etc. this way you have those easily forgotten items in one grab and go tote. I bought extras at the thrift store, dollar Tree etc. its also great because when you get home again there's no unpacking because its all done and ready for the next adventure
For the bacon grease… once it’s in the jar, out water in the jar and shake it up. Flip over and Refrigerate. All the solids will sink to the bottom (into the water) and the bacon grease will float to the top and solidify.
It might be a good idea to get a back up coffee pot and electric pot at the thrift store and just keep tubs with everything in it then you will only have to remember food, clothes and bedding. I have always found to keep all those things and never unpacking.
You're amazing....🎉🎉 You probably thought about it but maybe bring disposable coffee cups from Sam's club just so you can take a break from washing diahes ;) 😊
I’m not a big camper but my husband was before I met him. He and his dad went camping and fishing with other Dads and Sons as long as it was above freezing and he tells stories of the giant cast iron fry pan that was always used for every meal.
You are such a beautiful woman since you’ve been taking the time to get your body where it needs to be with the running and with your strict diet. I think it’s making you look like you’re losing weight, especially in your face you’re looking younger. Keep up the good work.
Get all the electrical items and keep them just for camping also trash bag they stay with the camping stuff that way you will not forget anything if it's all kept together, we even keep towels and throws just for camping.
Jamerrill, you are a great example of how to support your gluten free folks with appropriate foods and treats, without stress or extra time. You give great ideas to others on your channel, including that you have a separate fridge to reduce cross contamination or errors. 🎉😊
just an idea. get a small table so you can put your washing basin up off the ground. also get a big pot and put it on the fire so you can warm up water faster. You can have coffee, hot chocolate, and have more water for washing dishes
Next time bring some disposable cups also. Get a small side folding table for the dis pan to sit on. Your cast iron pan would have allowed a lot to be cooked at once time. ❤❤❤
Five gallon bucket for washing so your egg / sandwich makers can soak and when not in use carry 2 or 3 gallons of can be carried back to camp site at a time.
We call the medal cookers--pie irons. We put butter bread facing out and a serving spoon of pie filling inside then when they’re done put powdered sugar on the out side
