On this overnight trip, I joined fellow RU-vidr, ‪@tangenttrails‬, for a backpacking trip into the pines at the LBJ National Grasslands near Decatur, TX. While Jerry was doing this as a part of a much larger loop, I was only able to join him for this one night. He showed me around a place he knows well and led us to a great campsite for the night. We seemingly had the whole area to ourselves as we didn't see anyone else on trail or at camp.
This trip was definitely a success as we had a great campsite, campfire, a lot of laughs, good miles on trail, and a crisp cold quiet night of sleep. Be sure and check out Jerry's channel for more info on the grasslands. He has a lot of videos from all of the trails at LBJ.

@@CameronHall88 I just love going out there during the week. Got the whole place to myself. I can walk for hours and not see a soul. I slide off the trail a ways and have a lunch break and take a short nap as well. Got to keep your eyes open for big ole Bulls as well. Be safe out there 😁👍

Great video, but you’ve gotta get yourself an electric pocket pump for your sleeping pad. So much nicer than the pump sack.
@CameronHall88

I have started using the Neoair NXT since this trip. And the pumpsack feels like luxury! I'm still used to blowing all my pads up by mouth! Eventually, I may move on to a pump.

This is me and my husband's favorite place to camp! We go every fall and spring! When we had the kids we used to bring the tents to the pines! We've hiked all over the grasslands especially the pines area. Even the horse bridges. Seeing it all makes me want to be there right now!

Great video I have the Double Rainbow DW tent. I have set it up but not actually camped in it yet. That tent is a legit 2 person tent so much room can't wait to get it out and spend a couple nights test run before my PCT hike. Good luck and keep posting brother hopefully maybe one day we can hike together.
@CameronHall88
@CameronHall88 Год назад
I appreciate it. I'm looking forward to following along your PCT hike. That tent should serve you well. Henry Shires always makes top notch stuff. We've had a Texas Backpackers RU-vid Meetup in the fall the past couple of years. If that is something you're interested in, we'd love to have you. I'm sure you'll have some great stories from the trail. If not, no worries. I may see you out at the Grasslands sometime.

I just camped out here for the first time recently and it was solid mud. I did drive into the group use camp site for an overnight. I love it out there. Looking forward to trying it again once the trails dry up on me.

Really? That is unfortunate. The trails were very muddy on this trip but the campsites really weren't bad. I have only been to LBJ a few times but its a nice area for North TX. What is your favorite trail or area to camp at LBJ?

Cameron, I'm a new subscriber and I have seen several of your videos now. You're doing good work. Nice to see you team up with Jerry, whose videos I also enjoy. As a Tarrant County resident, I appreciate your attention to local backpacking options like the LBJ Grasslands. I was out there for an overnight pack trip just a few weeks ago, and plan on a longer trip sometime in the next month or two. Thanks for what you do, and happy trails.

Chuck, thanks so much for your kind words. I truly appreciate you watching and taking time to comment. I'm also hoping to get back to the Grasslands in the next couple months. What are your favorite campsites/trails? I'd like to check out different areas. I really appreciate Jerry inviting me out there. He has a great knowledge of the area and he does a good job bringing it to the RU-vid community. Thanks again for watching.
@chuckdunning8462

Cameron, I can't pick favorites among the trails. Each has great qualities. As for campsites, the Piney Woods where Jerry took you, another set of pines near Far West Gate, and Valley View Camp are all great spots. I'm partial to camping in heavy woods, and there are lots of options for that. In Section 31, the area around Jackson Woods, Big Rock, and the Mesa is very interesting. Maybe I'll see you out there!

I know lbj js public land to anyone at any time and I’m not sure if you know this but December is usually hunting season so please be mindful of those out there that are hunting as this is often our only places we get to hunt publicly. I also camp out there in the spring. All I ask if that you be mindful of us hunters out there as we are mindful of you campers out there

I definitely can appreciate people hunting at LBJ. I am curious if there is something specifically we are doing in this video that you feel is not right? Or do you mean being out there during hunting season in general?

This was the first 4 day fall trip that I didn’t see a single deer on trail out there.
