Hey thanks for the new way to tie the butterfly knot. I've been doing knots professionally for the last 30 years. I love knots . To the people that have a difficult time, hang in their you will get it. It takes patients and a lot of repetitive pratice. This video is also a big advantage

Super video, I have been camping for years and never used this knots with tarps and guy lines. I used plan ole knots and really badly. With your video I taught myself knots I can use to make life easier and better while camping.

Hi..on the 2 half-hitches which I used for many yrs loading ships I go around the branch twice instead of once and only need one halfhitch instead of 2 to have the same secure objective. Also I pull it thru doubled ( slip) so as to untie very easy. Great video you have and so interesting as I love knots. My fav that we used alot is the wagoneers hitch or truckers hitch. We used that knot to hold heavy pipes connected to each other and never once had a fail from that knot.

An excellent presentation. One of my favorite knot videos. GOOD: background and branch selection for demonstration\speed of knot demonstration\ love how it was presented twice per knot\ good camera angle\ like the knots chosen\ and most important, what the knots are best used for. Just wanted to say thanks for sharing. Can't wait to use some of these in the backyard, my next camping trip, and my next boat adventure.

Great video, I really enjoyed it. At my fire department (well, most FD's in the US) the clove hitch is taught to secure extention ladders. The slip clove hitch would really help deployment of ladders on the fire ground.

I believe you did the taut line two different ways. First time you reversed the third loop direction and the second time you did all 3 loops in the same direction. Also I always used it because when you tighten the slack after making the knot it holds tight. Great for securing objects to a fixed structure.
@jasonbowman7402
@jasonbowman7402 4 года назад
You might be thinking of the two half hitches, which is an anchoring knot/hitch,. The tautline is suppose to slide, to be adjusted for tension. The 2 loops on the inside are the sliding part of that knot, while the half hitch on the outside is the locking knot/holds it together.

Thanks for watching and leaving such a nice comment. The video isn't perfect, but it's not bad. Since making this one I've also made several other videos on the specific knots, many of which have different ways to tie them. The Alpine Butterfly Knot is my favorite. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JazIqg0hPkU.html

I was wondering why you chose to tie your double sheet bend with the double wrap above the crossover instead of underneath it like most do. Is there specific benefit to that method? Thanks for the great content.

Great Video! I haven't found a video with so many types of knos like yours yet.. The rythem is great and repeting the process again was a very good idea! :-) Though there're simpler ways to explain the Bowline and and Alpine Butterfly knots, It was hard for me to follow these two knots, maybe it's the angle or too fast The Prusik Knot was new for me so thank you! :-)

Thanks for the examples. I found most of what I was looking for. It would be nice to show the knots in their proper application: The 'tautline hitch' is not intended to be snugged up against the anchor, it is intended to slide and hold onto the working line itself so it can be tensioned; the bight of the 'bowline 'is intended be passed through or over an anchor point; the 'prusik' is intended to tied around another line so it can both slide and hold onto the working line, used in climbing - it is used in conjunction with another line that applies intermittent tension to the knot.

Your first 'half-hitch' is an overhand knot, being used as a stopper knot Though a half-hitch and overhand knot are made the same way, they end up laying differently in final form.
