Ice fishing for Giant Walleye has always been one of my favorite things to do at first ice. This year I decided to stay on the ice for a few days and this is Day 1 of the hunt for GIANT WALLEYE!! Let's just say the day started off with a bang!!

get a memory foam pad for the cot or get any zero gravity chair that lays way back. would still put some memory foam on the chair. I put a wool blanket and foam pad on my chair and cot, helps keep the cold from coming up from below and keeps you toasty warm.

Clayton as you mentioned you definitely need a zero gravity chair. Timber Ridge zero gravity. Good solid quality chair perfect for ice fishing overnighters

Cant wait for the next video! I love how much you stress safety of not only yourself but the fish as well. Recently within the last couple years I've been seeing a lot of sportsmen caught up in the trophy, not so much on youtube, but other social media, and not having proper ethics with their catch/kill. It's nice to see people using this platform to spread a good message, all while putting out awesome content!

I know this is an old video but I'm loving the ice fishing content. I've always wanted to go ice fishing and think it would be even more fun to be able to camp on the ice. I'm from Louisiana so I've got to fish alot but obviously it never gets cold enough to ice fish. Can't wait to watch more of your ice fishing videos.

I am 68 and can sleep in a zero gravity lounge chair easily, particularly out at the lake. Mine doesn't have a tray on it for drinks, etc. Since mine is pretty basic, though heavy well built, I will say most of the chairs I have seen at sports stores are pretty similar to what I have, though some are a little bit narrow (I am not narrow). Not as good as a La-Z-Boy, but a lot (a lot!!) more portable (obviously). Great video, as usual. Thank you.

I am glad that "respect the resource" was brought up. It may rub people the wrong way and make them maybe a little uncomfortable, but maybe people will realize we have to take care of our future of fishing. Taking too much fish out of a lake is a problem too.

If your not a fan of the cot you should think about a hammock set up. I've used my back yard hammock stand and my backpacking hammock gear while camping in a hub on the ice and it's amazing. Same quality sleep I get while summer camping, and it takes up less space.

Your second walleye would have been just an appetizer to your first one. That was a GIANT!! I agree with you 100 % about protecting our resources, once they're gone, they're gone. Tight lines, good fishing Clayton. I'll be waiting for the next video, no rush or anything. Lol I have a collapsible hammock that I bought at basspro. I find it more comfortable than a cot, I'm 6'3" and they just don't make them long enough

100% with ya Clayton. Really bothers me when I see these Social media fishermen exploiting fish for fame. Get them back in the water or eat them don’t screw around and throw back essentially a dead fish! I’m so glad you hit this hard. One of the many reasons you are my favorite RU-vid channel.

You can cook your walleye however you want bigFella, who cares. Only thing that matters is that you like it and you enjoy doing it. Guarantee you don’t lose views when you’re putting 31” on the ice. Great work and nice grind!

You want a cloth chair, keeps your back warm. I don’t have a cot yet so I just used my antigravity, only trouble is when your in your sleeping bag it’s hard to get out when your bells go off, your feet gets wet, while your in scramble mode.

I can't sleep in a cot or a zero gravity chair. So I I picked up an intex 18 inch twin air mattress. I was only supposed to spend one night, but I was sleeping so well I ended up staying for 3 nights over the weekend. Only downside is you can't store anything underneath it. But it packs way better than a chair and a cot.

Timber Ridge Zero Gravity chair from Costco here in the states is awesome. I am 6'4" about 275 and it is perfect for me. The side table is a bonus. I would guess you might even be able to attach a rod holder to it somehow. Tight lines Clayton

Great start with that “toad”! Really admire the amount of work that you put in to making these vids. Just lugging all that equipment out , setting it up, fishing, cooking, charging batteries, cleaning up your stuff, the dismantle, etc etc etc.... Not gonna lie, that’s impressive. Only someone who absolutely loves fishing and filming as much as you obviously do would take that on. Cudos BTW, tried the blackened fish after watching your catch and cook vid last year....... not my favourite.... lol Looking forward to number 2 and 3!

My first Ice fishing was nearly a limit of eaters, which I cannot complain about, but I would just love to finally catch a big walleye for once! I have never caught a walleye bigger than 24"! That first one you caught was mythical! Photography tricks! Like how they filmed the hobbit to make them look a different size! Lol great catch Clayton, great video!

@@ClaytonSchickOutdoors make sure and take a pillow for under you. Helps you lay flatter. Miles better than a cot. Then if you have a rattle reel go off or a bell jingle all you have to do is sit up and it’s right there.

I got 2 zero gravity chairs from cabelas a couple yea ago. There is a regular size and a big boy size. It’s about 3-4” wider. Comes with a drink holder and a neck pillow. Wood handles, beauty canvas and nice thick bungee cord. They lay back almost flat. They are super comfortable.

Nice first fish dang. This last weekend a few friends and I slept in the Otter Vortex Resorts out on Red Lake. Walked out 1.5 miles to get away from the 1000s of people (no joke) that were out there. Had a great time caught a bunch of fish. Would do it again.

I seen you fish the valleys of fort qu-appelle often. I fish the big 4 lakes in that area as well.. Clicked on the video and went to make a drink. Hear its big, ooooo its big, thats how you start a morning. Was wondering if you got a fish or were dropping one off at the bathroom before fishing! Glad it was a number 1 and not number 2. Nice video Clayton, like the way you handle your fish and are pointing out people who do not! I like to think of it as if the fish caught me and had me under the water how long would I be comfortable before being release back through that hole, 10 seconds? 20 seconds? 2 minutes????!

First of all “I’m not going to lie” Bazinga lol. If you made ten more videos on blackened walleye I would watch all ten. Second, I applaud you many times over for doing all the hard work you do to make these videos. Thirdly I sure appreciate you trying to educate people on safe fish handling, I’ve seen a few videos as well where people have had the fish out of water to long, especially in the cold I’m hopping they just don’t know any better and not doing it cause they don’t care ether way I hope they learn and change there ways.

Love my Otter Resort Hub but when its really cold and windy I find its a bit big for overnighters. I go with 2 tents now. Eskimo 949i for sleeping and the resort hub for fishing.

I am not talking tournaments just fun fishing. Why not damage the resource we all love so much just for a hero photo right.

So damn envious.. It'll be awhile before we get ice here in SW Wisconsin.. I never have been able to find and catch number's of walleye through the ice. I know the Mississippi has em though. I can get on the panfish though and it produce's some giant perch, crappie and gill's.
