You know this is so great. I’m just preparing to break my camping virginity. I’m 58 and disabled and finally now able to start camping due to some medical advancements. Watching your video tutorials really helps. I’m practicing setting up a small tarp in the garden. Can you recommend good a tarp size measurement for a spacious area to sit and store items for say two people please? Many thanks Ian

Putting your adjustable friction knots at the corner of the tarps as opposed to the stakes, you can adjust tension simply by reaching out slightly from under the tarp. You can see how this would be a big advantage in wet weather. Going to the stake to adjust will get you wet, adjusting simply by reaching your arms out to the corners of the tarp will keep you much dryer. I used to do it your way but experience changed that.

I've read that the reef knot isn't a great way to connect ropes that are floating free, though it is good cinched down around a rigid object such as around a tree or in shoelaces. I prefer the zeppelin bend. A little fiddler to tie, but much easier to untie after being loaded. And it will never work loose under lots of shaking....

@timad7c2
@timad7c2 11 месяцев назад
If you put the taut line hitch at the side of the tarp, you no longer need to bend over to make adjustments without losing any functionality in adjustments. A two-inch bowline knot at the peg end will easily grab a tent peg or wrap around a tree utilizing a toggle. An added benefit is all the knotting is already complete.
