Katrina here, 😂drone crash . I haven't camped since my husband passed near 2 yrs ago . Lately been thinking i need a couple of days bush. I have some of the kings camp ware new too. Inherited my dads dog 😅 so no national parks. I think this weeks mission is to plan it and do it . Thanks for the back to basics .
Only think that I would be concerned about with the mixer is that it's food grade. Leaching chemicals out of the plastic with the alcohol wouldn't be a great thing imo.
One thing I forgot to mention in the video I actually started out with all my 12v gear was originally adventure king's gear aswell. I never had any issues with it & only upgraded because of the remote touring I did. They actually continue to improve the quality of their products 👍
Wonderful Video. I remember years ago, Seek Adventure did a similar one, and even Ronny Dahl has done one. They are a great idea for anyone starting off. Haven't seen the plastic drink mixer before. I have used frozen water bottles in the esky. Remember to leave room for the ice to expand in the bottle. Yes, I saw the drone crash.
Every campsite I go to has rubbish in it these days. Thing that makes it worse is all these campsites have a huge rubbish bin to dump your rubbish in when you leave yet people are still too lazy to do that
Some great tips here. I’ll have to get some cotton buds and vaso. With the toilet chair I’d be tempted to forgo the plastic bag and just poop right into a hole in the ground. Good on ya for picking up other campers trash, I do the same and it always amazes me that people who go camping to enjoy the outdoors also trash the joint like they don’t care. Just stupid I guess. Looking forward to seeing the new rig, I bet you are too.
I have considered trying it without the bag but after a night on the 🍻 & camp cooking you never know where it's going to spray & you'd most likely get it all over the frame 😂😂😂 car reveal will be in the next week or so 👍
Great video with some very useful tips. I've spent to last few months building up my Colorado as a capable tourer and just finished a 7x4 camping trailer as well. I use a combination of brands, Kings and Dune mainly. The Colorado is my third 4wd and by far my best. I have done a few different setups now and I've learnt not to throw out or sell gear as it comes in handy from time to time. If I buy new gear, I always wait for them to come up on special which saves money. On the Colorado, I'm running the Kings mark3 rtt and the trailer has the Dune Nomad 140 that was previously on the Colorado. Both are great tents and were bought while on special saving thousands of dollars! I run a very basic 12v system in both with solar panels etc to power lights and a fridge/freezer. The trailer is an extension to the setup for when my daughter and a friend want to come along occasionally. Yes, I've spent some money but by buying carefully I've saved even more. I probably should do a walk through video myself one day!
Yes, beginners, minimalist and inexpensive camping tips are what I look for. Even experiened campers could find this informative. Also, things that could trip up a beginner and more safety info would be great. Appreciated the points about branches falling and things blowing into the fire.
Cool stuff mate. Enjoying your videos, totally agree with what u say… keep it simple with camping. Myself just drove Perth to Broome and back with a swag, esky with simple food but of water for a quick wash if needed… small chair on the campfire at night… easy peasy simple life Enjoy..
What a Great VID... Best realistic tips... Thanks Mate, Keep up the good work... I brought the Snow Peak fire pit from drifter 5 years ago. great product but TOO EXPENSIVE.. Kings stuff is great $90 fire pit.. Can't beat that...
Yeah the snow peak gear is awesome 👌 But I don't see the need to spend that much. I had 5he king's firepit glowing red hot over the weekend & it handled it fine
I always get the cheap thing first, so that when I do end up getting something more expensive, now I know what weak point, or what annoying bits I need to keep an eye out for when picking which expensive gear to buy.
Excellent vid love the practicality of them. Honest advice as well. Good to see things are improving for yourself 👍 Roughly where’s that camp site looks like a good setup? 😄👌
Good to see you back mate. looking happy to be out camping. Hope all things are going forwards for you now. I have all the gear from this clip but not a gazebo LOL. 1 tip I will give is I'm 5 foot10/11and love the stretcher but when I sit my legs are off the ground. Take off the leg caps and cut down to suit your height makes getting in and out much easier. Cheers.
Your advice is spot on and could not agree more .. The one thing i would like to point out though is dont realy on Warranty on a lot of products these days .. I had to do a Warranty claim on a kings product and had to jump threw so many hoops to apply.. It was a nightmare and in the end i just gave up and war it .. Which i think is what they want you to do .. Just something to bear in mind .. I still get some of there things for stuff i dont care to much about ..
Thanks for your comment 👍 after reading this I did reach out to 4wdsupacentre and question their warranty process. If you were visiting a store all you are required to do is bring in the item & the invoice to show proof of purchase. Then they will process a refund which will deposited into your account from their head office. If it's online it's not much different except you have to send them photos to prove the product is faulty. Plus batch info (your invoice) as proof of purchase. Was your experience different to this?
Great video Paul. I enjoyed watching even though I’m a seasoned camper. Been on a pension I can’t afford the expensive gear. I go with I don’t care what it was made for but what it can do. I built my own camper from scratch. It has kings, kickass, victron , redarc and it lives out side 24/7 rain hail or shine , winter , summer. My kings fridges outlasted my ever cool, it blew a breaker switch then the fan then the control panel. You gave good advice and I’m like you I love getting with nature. I’m of again on the 5th June on another camp for another week solo near Bathurst
Sounds l8ke a great setup mate 👌 yeah I had the king's fridge & it lasted me year's. I never had any drama's with it. That's awesome mate I'm glad to hear you're getting out. I hope you have a great time. Still need to plan that bigger trip someday where we go camping together 👍🍻🏕🔥
I look forward to go camping with you. Cost of living has made it out of the question this year. I’m still saving so I can catch up with you but it will have to be next year. I planned to do it before Christmas this year but fuel costs suck. Might have to sell a kidney or something. lol. I look forward to seeing your build on your new hilux. I love your passion on camping, you remind me of the camp man. I hope you get to see Ben soon
@Pumped-koala I hear ya mate. I'm broke this year aswell trying to get setup in wa and build the hilux. I posted a behind the scenes clip just then to patreon for you to check out. I'm editing the reveal video now 👍
Look at the Chinese grocery store. Ovel plastic plate. They sit better on your legs to eat your food near the fire. Look in op shop, just the beater off an electric mixer. Run it off a battery drill. Tim Bates idea. Cut the tip off an old brickwork trawl. Best flipper for food and a good cowbell, stainless steel bucket. Multi use and able to heat up water.
Great video for beginners and generally all. I have been at it for 25years and have upgraded to the best in the market in most cases. It just comes down to disposable income really. I still have some kings gear and still think a lot of there gear is well worth the money. Another great option is to buy 2nd hand camping gear from a garage sale or facebook. We use the old 70's folding chairs...use to be $8-$10 from Kmart...fold flat and takes up no room. I would probably steer away from the plastic bag option for the toilet. If we go without the chem toilet we dig a hole away from camp, burn the paper so there's no chance something digs it up. I read through the comment section and good to here your are getting back to enjoying camping and filming...it will get easier... Take care mate!
Great tips mate 👍 I would have mentioned digging a hole but most females I've taken camping would never consider that lol. It is the best option if you don't have a chemical toilet 👍
I bought my Nav new in 2018 and I've been using Kings 12v battery, VSR, solar Panel and solar controller. And have been all over the country including numerous outback trips and never had a problem.
Yeah I forgot to mention in the video I actually started out with all my 12v adventure king's aswell & never had any issues. I only upgraded because I wanted peace of mind when remote touring. There's nothing wrong with their 12v gear and looking back at the video I kind of gave the wrong impression about their 12v gear. They actually continue to improve their 12v gear all the time 👍
Yah someone watched right to the very end 👏😀😂 thank you 🙏 I haven't put bloopers in for several years but I think I should start doing it again. I'm terrible at talking on camera & stuff up more than you'd think 😂
@cameronbennett9881 I knew that big stump was there & I knew I'd just clear it but I forgot about the twigs 5 meters behind it lol. That was actually the second time I did that shot. I was trying to film it without looking at the drone but it was so hard lol
"Every mail you cook over a fire you will remember.. " no truer words said. I've cooked some venison that my wife constantly reminds me about, but there have also been some disasters. Don’t neglect the corn, mushrooms and some garlic bread while the coals are hot. Happy tummy, happy life!
I've ruined multiple camp oven's beyond repair after some of my fails. No matter what I cooked in them afterwards it always smelt like those failed meals. But I still remember each one & the memories that come with it. Typically I was cooking tea & right on sunset we'd get distracted taking photos of the beautiful sunset & completely forget about the nice roast cooking 😂😂😂
If you pick your locations then you can really go camping out of just about any vehicle imo. The last couple of places we went there were people in smallish hatchbacks turning up and camping for a night or two. One family, parents and 2 small kids, were heading from Victoria to WA to watch the eclipse a while back and were in a Subie Wagon. I don't know how they were doing it as it wasn't something I would want to try. I saw a vid a while back and the guy was saying that with an esky you need it to be 2/3 Ice to be really efficient. Doesn't leave a lot of room for food/drinks etc. The guy I go with has a fridge and we're generally not that far from being able to get Ice so I won't be bothering with one and the batteries etc. I like those stand alone awnings as the ones on the vehicle are a pia mostly I have found. I had a 270 deg. one and recently got rid of it as it was too much pfaffing around for one person. Only used it once.
Yeah you see backpackers travelling in all sorts of cars. You just make it work with what ever you've got. Anyone can get out & do basic weekend camping 👍
Hey Paul, good to see you're getting out there and great advice regarding the cost of camping gear. Just a question, with all your camping experience in the Riverland of SA, do you have a map with your favourite camp sites marked that you are willing to share?
A lot of my favourite spots have since been closed off the past few year's but there are still some nice spots. Bottom of headings cliff's is great because you can walk along the cliff's & explore the area, kayaking along the cliff's is great aswell or if you have a boat the bend in the river of the cliff's across the other side was one of my favourite spots in the riverland. Katarapco national parks has some amazing campsites, Lyrup flats national Park has great spots & even loch Luna has some nice one's. There's one particular spot next to some cliff's there we used to kayak, explore the cliff's & not far from there (10 minute walk) is an old mine which looks great in photo's 👌👍
I like the spirit pourer thats a great idea , but a $300 camp chair 😮 na sorry buddy im a tight one 😅 good to see kings are hopefully making better products thats a good thing
Yeah I wouldn't tell anyone to buy a chair like mine & honestly I can't see the value in it. It wouldn't cost b7gger all to make. A lot of these high end products you are only paying for the brand name
@@Campingdownunderyer none off us have an idea if a $300 chair is worth it only your done it , another thing I recon is essential is a small personal epirb that lives in the car and you can take it hiking with ya , ive had to use one on a boat trip once when our skipper went overboard late a night
Better still, Just buy a swag and stretcher and go with someone who camps a lot and use their gear. If you like the camping life after that, Then start down the rabbit hole.
How are you mate I run kings for most of my stuff in my ute an have for years now an I think most of kings stuff is just as good as more expensive stuff .
Hey mate I'm starting to feel better. At least I'm well enough now to get out filming again. At least it takes my mind off everything & being out camping again feels so good 😀 yeah I've seen your nice setup mate. Nothing wrong with running all king's stuff 👍
That's good mate camping heals all . I can't wait to go camping again I gotta wait to my knee is good can't climb in my tent..I now have 2 kings drawers in mind now aswell .glad your doing well mate
I never mentioned any other brands. I was only showing adventure king's on camera as that's what I brought & have had the most experience with. There are lot's of other good budget brands out there
