My dream setup for our family of 5 plus one dog would be 2 vehicles. I have a Tacoma, but to also have a 4Runner or Lexus for my wife to drive would be a blast. She would probably need some convincing but I know she would take right to it. Of course I’ll have to find a second vehicle first.
Lot of work to go camping with the family, puking dogs, kiddo, preggo wifey (congrats Ashley, you look great, major kudos to you!). So worth it, in my experience.
Hey Mike! I can’t find the brackets you used to mount the Vault case by the handles. Were they Uptop? Didn’t see them on the site. Looked like a nice overnighter with the fam. ✌🏼
Thanks for including a budget power station been following you from your early days and miss when you would do some more affordable gear reviews. Totally understand and happy you are getting some big gear sponsors but very pricey for the casual camper.
I had the same issue with our pathfinder. 2 kids, 2 big dogs, and a big cargo topper wasn't enough room. Made a wood platform in the back that can fit carryon sized luggage under the dogs and made a world of difference. But a third kid is about to push us to a suburban so there is still room behind the 3rd row.
When my heeler was a pup she would puke all over when we would go on extended trips. Our vet prescribed Cerenia tablets to ease the nausea, which seemed to help the most. Not in conjunction, but we'd also use bonine or Dramamine. Don't know if you've explored those options. Anyway, the 21st century family wagon rig is looking bitchin!
Ah yeah oops. Something must have happened with export or upload and frame rates being off. Wasn't that way in the edit. I'll have to look into what's up with that
Why do you feel the need to complain? He does a lot of work on every video, passes on plenty of knowledge, and cares about his viewers yet you have the desire to complain about a drone. Unbelievable. If you think you can do better go ahead and try but I’ve been watching him for years and I know you’re not on the same level @Sanjuk0522.
@@OttoVonWienis I'm not complaining, I am just letting him know so he is aware. I feel like your the one that's freaking out and complaining right now :) You need to chill out.
Good job getting the family out! It’s tough just to get the kids out to Target so good on you man. For trailers I’ve always thought the Taxa Woolly Bear looks good. Decent storage and tent platform without being crazy on weight.
Yo!! I camp in this spot all the time! We call it June rock (Dogs name) for the rock at the top of the trail marked “no motor vehicles.” Sick views up there. This was my first spot camping with my dad when we moved to Colorado and has been a favorite ever since. Life coming full circle seeing you out there. All the best homie!
don't feed the night before and don't feed her in the am. benedryl 10mg per 25 lbs, sleep the trip no vomit. Our old coonhound did the same thing until we did this .
Congrats on a beautiful 1st time camp with the awesome Lexus. Was wondering why you do not utilize a roof storage box like the ones made by yakima or thule. Is the wind noise excessive while in highway speed on the way to the trail/camp site ? Are the roof box shape and dimentions too limiting or too tall ? or just not your style ? The Ortlieb duffel looks waterproof enough to handle the elements; has it been tested in a drive home during a rainstorm ? Thanks.
We have the previous FSR hub tent and really love it. The new one is interesting. Really like the bigger door but don't know how I feel about the sides being blacked out unless rolled up. Interesting choice. The bedding is what takes up so much space doing a ground tent. Getting two of us comfy and now with our own little guy coming along there's a lot of stuff.
Why is no one making affordable hub tents. The closest to budget are gazelle and to get one big enough for a family is still over $500. Its the same materials as a standard tent. Roof tents made people think under $1k is budget for a tent.
Try the house brands from Academy Sports etc. I almost bought one of their hub tents for around $150. Decided on a Gazelle instead. There are budget hub tents out there.
I bought a gsi slim fold table and it's really nice. It's just big enough to be helpful but small enough to tuck out of the way. Edited to add: You know, they make closed trailers specifically for camping. The one I saw is about 5k before tax and I will definitely have to save for that but I bet you could afford it if you wanted to. I'm also 5'2" tall and widowed which means anything that goes on top of my SUV, I have to climb the truck to put it up there and get it down which is probably not safe. It would give you plenty of space, you can take it off, you'd have a garage to store it so you won't have that worry about it growing legs and walking off. Might be worth your while if you're camping with your family. Edited one more time to add: That mattress topper, I take one too and squeeze it into a sleeping bag compression bag. It works great.
Yeah my framerates were off, cause I'm a noob - I fixed it in post, but I guess something must have happened in export or RU-vid processing to re-jack it. Won't happen again
CBD works great for dogs who get sick or can't chill out on car rides. Just make sure they are the dog friendly kind and not normal CBD and NEVER give your dog(s) THC👍🏽👌🏽
@@LastLineOfDefense you should see about getting your hands on am Opus camper, for an honest review. They look cool as hell, however Ive heard mixed reviews. Given your following and your excellent content, Opus should want you to review their product.
I’ve got a Kodiak Canvas 10’ x 10’ tent, which is great, but the thing weights 80lbs and takes a long time to set up since each steak needs to be pounded into the ground, but it’s very comfortable and nice to be able to stand and have all 4 of my family inside, but still being up on a roof does feel a bit safer with less shuttling of gear inside and outside the vehicle.
I remember when I first started watching the channel it was one of your first videos in the blue Subaru Walmart camp video it doesn’t take a lot of money to get outside… day one always remembers
I went from rooftop tent on my Tacoma to a trailer (converted truck bed) and love it. My truck stays pretty clean and minimalistic while camping, which I like. The trailer does add challenges sometimes on the trail but I’ve had more positive experiences than negative. I’m sure your family would enjoy and appreciate the open space inside the suv.
I like my Hiker Trailer for a more budget minded option. When the whole family goes together, we split up between trailer and hub tent. The hub tent also gives you space to stand up and change.
Edit: I spoke too soon! yes you have! Have you ever tried giving your dog Dramamine or Bonine for the car ride? My Rottie has had to take it, but seems to be growing out of the motion sickness after two years.
I was seriously thinking this entire video.. maybe I should suggest he look into tear drops or some type of off-road trailer. Haha If I were to put in my two cents. I would consider a tear drop, but the departure angles are the only thing I see as a major negative.
Not sure if your roof rack can fit the front runner stainless steel table. I use that all the time to put warm stuff on as well. Thinking about getting prep table as well. Cannot do camping without a proper table.
For the 180 awning, yes. It just barely touches the light (on the hatch in the open position - at the height I have it mounted). I think the 270 would hit though.
Was considering the hub but I live in Sacramento and the area can hit 85 and up during summer. Doesn’t look like it has much ventilation plus the color.
That LX is beautiful, making me want to buy one instead of the Land Cruiser. How come you haven’t built a long travel rig yet? It would be fun to mob through the woods of CO going fast, and there’s shops there that rebuild all those shocks like filthy motorsports not like here in WA no one rebuilds them.
It’s a lot of money and effort for minimal gain for the trails I typically do, and actually worse in some aspects. If I lived out in the desert or something though, I’d probably do it - but UTVs are honestly better for that kind of stuff also.
That power station looked and sounded cheap when I heard the sounds the plastics made when you were moving it around, giving us the run down. What are your thoughts on the quality of the case/assembly?
Poor planning, Talon been traveling for the past month, then he's gone to Alaska for another month, haha. We'll try to pick it up if he's back in town for any amount of time
