Hello I have a prs with a wraparound bridge. I want to play in drop b but have buzz, would this bridge be able to help me get there better? More parameters to adjust it right? Very confused
If your guitar buzzes when you change tunings, it's most likely because your set-up isn't correct for the slack string. Especially if you tune back to standard and everything is fine. There is much less tension on a string when you drop the tuning. Many guitarists that occasionally use drop tunings during a show, live with the buzz, because it's only on a couple songs and the audience isn't going to heart it, especially with fuzz or overdrive. You may need to raise your action and use heavier strings so there's adequate tension on the string. The main benefit of an adjustable bridge, is that it allows you to make fine adjustments of intonation with each string, where's the stock bridge doesn't. The stock bridge is designed to be close, with no adjustment per string. Any of these types of bridges, adjustable or not, have a screw adjustment to raise each side of the bridge, for higher action. Another thing to consider is your truss rod adjustment for more or less relief in the neck. If you play both drop B and Standard tuning equally, you'll need make compromises for both with your set-up. If it were me, I'd start out by raising the action with the effected string and hear if it helped. Then I would put on a little heavier string and work with the truss rod until I was satisfied. Stringjoy allows you to create custom sets of strings. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the input Michael and for watching. I have read that some Gibson bridges would collapse and need to be replaced. Here's one link: hazeguitars.com/blog/gibson-bridge-collapse
I tried a foreign wraparound on my new Epi MM that had a compensated stoptail bridge, but I couldn't adjust down far enough to get even standard action because of the saddles, which means I would have to shim the neck. Did you have similar problem with the KSL ?
This KSL bridge worked fine, no problems and it played really nice. I also installed brighter sounding humbuckers with split coils and a push pull pot. This really improved the tone over the original pickups in my opinion.
I never had that issue, even with the humid weather in Hilo. I'm always wiping my guitars down and sometimes spray a little Balliistol on metal parts. I had Thornbuckers installed on this guitar, with a push-pull switch to split the pups and it sounded very good. Much cleaner tones, but still had the smooth gritty humbucker tones when needed. I sold this SE about a year later and started building guitars. I've wanted to try out a PRS hollow body. How does your SE sound?
@@StevenParente I really like the sound of it. It has a nice warm tone… mahogany body. I am on the fence with the pups…. I have a couple semi hollow Ibanez AWD series guitars, each with Schaller Golden 50 humbuckers and I’d planned on those for this PRS too but the pups actually sound pretty good. They’re not as good as the Schallers but they do sound good and I get tones I can work with out of it. Maybe someday I’ll get some SD ‘59s but for now it’s sounding nice enough. Thanks for the reply.
Pull out the bushings !! Wrap bushings thin layer of sheet metal !! I used bottom of peanut can !! Press bushings back in guitar's body !! Install two 1" outer x 5/16" inner dia x 1/16 " thickness flat fender washers between studs and bridge !! Use the $20 Wilkinson bridge !! Bolt bridge directly to bushings over washers with two M8 Philips head bolts !! Action will be tad under 4/32 or 1/16 off 12th fret !! $3 in parts from hardware store !! Don't epoxy , glue and paper, glue and toothpicks bushings !! I installed a blender system in my SE EG after drilling third control hole !! Solid bridge install !! I'd fixed several guitars with wraparound bridges like I mentioned !! You want to eliminate all play at bridge area !!
@@jeeeeev I sold it after installing some really nice pickups, including splitting the coils and adding a push-pull pot. I was able to get a cleaner tone along with the smoother humbucker tone. I also did some fretwork and really smoothed out the fret ends and leveled everything. It was a nice playing guitar with good tone after all the upgrades and I have played a few premium PRS guitars at our local guitar shop. Since then I've built several guitars from kits, parts and lapsteels from scratch....and am selling them. My favorites that I've kept is a Stewmac Wilkinson Modern Tele kit(ru-vid.com/group/PLAHXmw7D6hvSBd1tOUVZG8oRKya_pI11b) and a Stewmac Les Paul Kit. I pulled the frets on the LP and installed stainless steel, added a zero fret and String Butler. I also flipped the neck pickup to give it a different tone. The other guitar a play a lot is a 2012 Fender Stratocaster American Special with Texas Special™ Single-Coil Strat® pickups. I tend to prefer the single coil sound, although the LP I built has a really nice tone.
Very cool! Do you know what radius the bridge is? Looking to replace my wraparound on prs se 245 with a 10" radius neck, and I see tonepros has 12" and mannmade has 10" adjustable wraparounds, but Mannmade are like $180...
I put a 12” radius tonepros on my S2 singlecut and it worked out fine. The difference is so small you won't notice. Think about compound radius necks. The bridge radius only lines up perfectly across a small portion of the finger board.
For $20, it is almost certainly made from zinc alloy "pot metal", which would severely dampen the tone of the instrument compared to the aluminum tailpiece PRS includes from stock. The more expensive models you see are typically made from aluminum or stainless steel with stainless steel or brass saddles. I agree the prices are outrageous though, especially if it's going on a sub $1,000 import model.
Aloha Damon. This guitar sounds great! I just had Thornbuckers installed with a push-pull switch to split the pups. It's one of my favorites now. The amount of tones this guitar gets, is unreal. Intonation is very good with this bridge and tuning is very good with the stock tuners. I really like my Fender 2012 American Strat, but the shorter scale length of the PRS makes it easier to shred... when shredding is in order :-) I still have my aluminum original PRS wraparound if I ever want to go back, but don't see a need to do that. Thanks for watching!
Yes LoL 😂 Something sounded off to me when he was intonating but could have just been my ears Researching these types for my 66 Jr Ended up getting a Faber Hybridge More expensive tho 😂
Aloha guitarra74, I don't know. I don't have a Korean PRS SE24 available to try out, or measure. Pick up a caliper and measure your current bridge. I bought a very inexpensive plastic one for about $5, although I'm planning to buy a better one. It comes in handy. The KSL Ebay page had the measurements and they were accurate, including string spacing, width of bridge and the distance between the center's of the screw posts. I measured my PRS SE and it was very similar. As I show in the video, the KSL bridge, did not fit the original bridge posts. I removed the original posts and replaced with the ones provide by KSL and then it fit perfectly. I didn't have to do any re-drilling. Also, I was willing to take a chance for $20, because the least expensive adjustable bridge I could find, was over $100 and a PRS adjustable bridge is $200. FYI - I just took my guitar to my local guitar shop and had the guitar tech take a look and make set up adjustments that I may have missed. He said he only had to make minor adjustments and the intonation is very good. It still feels good and plays really nice, since making this video.
Sebastian Kisiel have you used this bridge on a 245? I’m looking to replace all of my hardware with gold, but don’t want to take a step backward in quality. Any experiences are appreciated!
Thanks for the input Charles. It will be good for anyone who may own the same model. Did you replace the bridge studs with the ones provided with the adjustable bridge? I don't know much about the Tim Mahoney PRS model. Do you know where it's made? Is it a 22 or 24?
