Love this! Sometimes a song transcends the sum of its parts, because it has true heart. And you can feel that here. Great to see a band step away from seeking perfection and just believe in what they do.
Everytime i heard the first song, my eyes run over with tears. You can’t image it is how popular and powerful to Chinese youth people. for most people after all, there always a moment, you wanna hold faith or dream regardless of fight to the world. By the way, Midi is a big old music festival.
In my recollection, this song gained immense popularity in 2015 when the anime "Those Things About That Rabbit That Year," also known as "Year Hare Affair," was aired. It served as the closing theme for the first season, accompanying a captivating slideshow showcasing numerous renowned and lesser-known patriots from China's modern history spanning the last century. Just a basic knowledge of that historical period is enough to evoke a profound emotional response, bringing tears to the eyes of those who witness this poignant scene. Consequently, a significant number of individuals have embraced and familiarized themselves with this song. Often, the true allure of a melody lies in its ability to strike a chord with the most fundamental human sentiments. In addition, I heard that Joe is interested in China and Chinese, you can watch this animation "Year Hare Affair", short and vivid.
gala in giving us the feeling that they represent ordinary people, ordinary people who can't sing, ordinary people who have dreams, and although we are afraid and shy, they have worked hard for us to stand in front of the stage.
About 12 years ago, shortly after graduating from college, I was working alone in Beijing. Renting a very small apartment with a few young strangers like me, I spent 4 hours a day on my way to work and back home. After paying my monthly salary for rent, transportation and food, there was nothing left. It was the hardest time in my life and that song "zhui meng chi zi xin" accompanied me for countless nights of trying to work overtime and it encouraged me to keep going. Now my life has gotten better and I'm a little older. This song still moves me, and there are still young people like the person I once was who are inspired by it. THANKS GALA!
@@JoeCreator Thanks. for me, the first song, more than graduation or struggle. He sang with all his might, he knew he couldn't do it but did it, likes everyone's youth that used to run
Dude, for the first song, It means so much more than the its lyric and melody to the Chinese youth right now. literally. it is the 'Online National Anthem' for the Chinese youth for about the recent decade.
Gala is definitely an interesting band, and the song "Young for you" gives me a comfortable feeling. I know their pronunciation may not be considered standard, but among many Chinese people born in the 80s and 90s, their pronunciation sounds like how ordinary people speak English in China, with a touch of clumsiness and humor. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why this song is popular. Just like he tried the high note, he tried to sing the whole song in English is the whole point lol. I can speak better English but I LOVE how he sings that song. Love your reactions and comments on them.
it was around 13 years ago GALA was interviewed by a radio program talking why the key was unnaturally high that his voice range cannt reach, the host of the show (and including everyone i supposed) thought this was composed on purpose in order to deliver the msg of never giving up and trying harder, but their answer was hilarious: they found that too high after its been made but they were too poor(not famous yet) to afford another hour for hiring the studio in which such flaw made it a masterpiece...God was really helping them
Yes, Joe, after these Gala songs, I believe that we can find out bueaties from everyone's voice and the unique way they sing, melody and skill are good salt and pepper in food, but the meat is where the food is from. Please sing more and loud!
This song is pure raw emotion. The moment you use any singing technique to hit the high notes pitch perfect, you instantly lose the magic of this song. 必须呐喊,必须破音,必须筋疲力尽!
Very touched, we are not in perfect life and a lot of circumstances but never give up, still keep chasing our dream and keep our heart pure. Even we have known that we could never on the top.
Thanks, Joe, yes,the emotional music is good to cry for. That’s the light of life. It’s not in my graduation but, hope those young people enjoy the tear moments they would encounter❤
I dont know GALA and music😂,but it is easy for me 2 remember their songs even the singer's voice 😏, cuz the emotion I heard is very direct, it is easy to be infected and resonate at once❤
The song really is simple, but this simplicity is amazingly consistent with the message it tries to deliver (the lyrics). It is about the simple young men who are simple enough to believe in dreams. The highest pitch the singer wasn't able to reach, is just like the dreams that would never come true - but young folks will still go after it, knowing they are likely to fail. It takes courage to fail, but they are young, so they can afford. The song is not sophisticated and not perfect but very genuine, just like people at their early 20s. I guess this is why it got so popular in college students.
Because in China the Graduation Ceremony always comes BEFORE the final examination...like before 100 days around xd. So students are easily to get inspired by this song with full of hopeness, and it makes you brave to do your best in the last days. With such a fierce competition, senior school students at grade 3 are told to do nothing but study for enrolled by a better university, so this song does really movivate us.
You are right, we love his confidence. He will do it, even if he is not good, also he has nothing to hide. You know some chinese do speek english like this. In the past, if you speek english like this, people will loughat you, but nowadays if you speek like this they will thing you are a simple a good guy.
I recommend almost all songs from them. Their albums are the kind that one can enjoy from the intro till the last song. As you said, they are not perfect in any aspect of their music, but the passion that they put into it just makes everyone resonate.
This is my favourite song that I would not tired of❤❤❤ I often sing this song in front of my family, and whenever I get to the chorus, I always get very excited, and that's why I like this song, because it gives me a kind of fervent, inspiring power to go forward. In addition to this song, this band's other songs are also worth listening to.anyway,GALA YYDS!!!
I also like this song very much, not because of how powerful the lead singer is, but because the lyrics of this song can drive people's emotions, make people brave, positive, and yearn for beauty, I like it very much.
to be honest, the very first time I know this bank was in 2006 or even earlier, I wouldn't say I like their melody, I could even feel the vocalist's pitch is wrong. but, but I really like them, like you said, their emotion was really deep and they sing hard.
The first song, "Chasing Dreams with childlike Heart," is also used as a song to support the college entrance examination in Taizhou City, Jiangsu Province. Taizhou is a small city in central Jiangsu Province, and it’s where I’m from
totally agree that you should go live for this band because their beauty is they can't sing one song the same every time, the voice cracks or emotional things are very different from time to time and they can't control it, I think it's their special thing that I don't see in any other professional bands...
The first song was actually the ending song for a highly popular animation called "Year Hare Affair" (《那年那兔那些事儿》). This series was initially created by an ordinary individual on a military forum and it resonated with a large number of people. The creator later expanded the story, which revolves around Chinese history during the dark period known as the "100 years of humiliation." Despite the serious subject matter, the story is presented in a humorous yet touching manner. The anime gained immense popularity so as the song.
👍 well put. And the anime also faced severe criticism for its stereotyping and fascism ideology that it was trying to convey, such as depicting African countries as hippopotamus that acted lazy and stupid in the anime.
In fact, the release time of this song was earlier than that of that anime. That anime chose this song as the ending song, and initially the Gala band was not well-known,many people only learned about this song and this band through anime
I went to their live once, and that was a moment I felt I was truly alive, and I cried. Life's been hard, and there's so much pressure and unintended stuff happens every day. Sometimes you just need a moment to release yourself. As a typical Chinese, I have typical Asian parents. Not exactly like other Western people's stereotypes of Asian parents, they've never said I want you to be the best at this or that. But they always ask you, did you try your best. It sounds alright, but I always felt maybe I was just not trying hard enough, and I don't want to let them down. Here is where much pressure for young Chinese comes from. It can be indirectly from your peers or parents, but primarily from yourself. And those emotions can be hidden pretty deep, since Chinese people tend not to express their emotions that directly. Surely, young people need such a way to scream out, to truly be themselves. And their performances and live for the first song definitely did that. I believe the reasons for this song to be so touching can really differ from person to person, but the way they perform and the lyrics surely let people find their own reflection somehow, with the screams and shouts. These are all the emotions that can be expressed and reconciled with yourself somehow.
As some people already commented below in Chinese, this song builds up another layer of emotional attachment among Chinese, after it was adopted as the ending theme for 那年那兔那些事儿 (Year Hare Affair) The comic and animation series was a big success in China, depicting the history of PRC and the lesser known struggles of the country's people and economy during and after the tumultuous time of the cold war. Anyone (like myself) who has grown up through the years of "Open and Reform" and witnessed ground-breaking, era-making changes in our lives would understand and love what the song embeds, it's not just about living your youthful years to the fullest, or living your dream the whole life, but also about a people striving to stand on their feet (our family could hardly afford to eat rice when I was young, now I've already traveled to multiple countries and am building a life oversea). It is a song that could resonate on so many levels with Chinese, young and old. Although I agree and appreciate very much Joe's appreciation of the song, I think the reason that people recommend this song to you probably wasn't about analyzing its musical content, but rather to share with you the life story of modern Chinese people.
Let him sing this sound 100 times, his voice will stay same. Even the crack sounds on the highest note. That’s not easy. To chase the highest pitch just like to chase the highest dream. That’s why this song has to be from his mouth
