I really like both. They look like spaceships. Especially LMP1. Kinda wish the Hyper cars have a little more HP. Like 750-800hp instead of 690hp.

Find out which one is cheaper, because that is why the new HC are so popular with brands, but hey IMHO, anything over 750hp is overkill, 700 is great, so I would go for less weight.

For those who don't believe a Hypercar could actually keep up with a 2014 LMP1 car, at least in qualifying, I took the liberty to examine every round the 2014 and 2023 & 2024 WEC season shared and show the pole laps to show how close it really is. I decided to show 2023 laps as well given the times are actually faster than in 2024; perhaps BoP wasn't as harsh, I dunno. Spa Francorchamps 2014 - Porsche 919 - 2:01.198 2023 - Toyota GR010 - 2:00.812 2024 - Porsche 963 - 2:02.675 (Fastest in Q1, hyperpole was actually slower) Le Mans 2014 - Toyota TS040 - 3:21.789 2023 - Ferrari 499P - 3:22.982 2024 - Porsche 963 - 3:24.634 COTA 2014 - Toyota TS040 - 1:49.093 2023 - Did not compete 2024 - Ferrari 499P - 1:50.390 Fuji 2014 - Toyota TS040 - 1:26.886 2023 - Toyota GR010 - 1:27.794 2024 - Cadillac V-Series.R - 1:28.901 Bahrain 2014 - Porsche 919 - 1:43.145 2023 - Toyota GR010 - 1:46.564 2024 - Not yet disputed Interlagos 2014 - Porsche 919 - 1:17.676 2023 - Did not compete 2024 - Toyota GR010 - 1:23.140 With the exception of Bahrain and Interlagos, it was actually not that far off, and there's even excuse with Interlagos, as it got resurfaced in 2014, so it had a lot of grip. You can properly see that given that, in 2014, the F1 pole lap was actually faster than in 2004, and everyone knows just how much slower 2014 F1 cars are compared with 2004 ones. After 10 years, it's not as pristine. So yes, Hypercars, while not faster, are quite close. And fun fact, the 2014 Audis tended to be 2 or so seconds slower in qualifying, so the Audi in particular like in this video is even closer to the Hypercars.

I thought part of the intent by the FIA when making the Hypercar class was to slow the cars down a bit, from LMP1. These results should not be surprising.

Another point to bring up was that superGT gt500 was compared to both series, they wouldnt be comparing the 2 to the same series in a different league if the times were that far off.

@@Novafro They are surprising because a lot of people believe that 2014 LMP1 cars were as fast as 2015 and after LMP1 cars, which they weren't, not even close. And also, some people have in their minds that, given they had to slow down LMP2 cars to have a wider gap with Hypercars, that Hypercars are pathetically slow, when that's not the case. Yes, they slowed down LMP2 cars, but that was because the post 2017 LMP2 class was created with the speed of LMP1-H in mind, so they still looked rather slow compared to them, so when Hypercar became a thing and was barely faster, they slowed LMP2 down to more closely match the previous generation LMP2, when LMP1 cars lapped similarly to current Hypercars. So no, they shouldn't be surprising, but they still are because people have forgotten the actual speed of 2014 LMP1 cars.

@@entityeoe2285 GT500 have gotten steadily faster and faster over the years. From being comparable to GT1 cars, to now being essentially the fastest Closed Cockpit Race Cars in the world around a track after LMP1 died. It's pretty remarkable.

Where hypercars hybrid is mostly used for efficiency purposes since it only works above a certain speed threshold LMP1s can use hybrid at any time giving them unreal acceleration.. I remember watching the lmp1 onboards and when the hybrid kicks in its like Vin Diesel activating nitrous in the Fast & Furious movies.

It was honestly peak efficiency + Peak performance from the LMP1, probably the greatest ruleset ever. Energy limit but you can still fight for efficiency, with Hypercars you just can't fight anymore, not even for efficiency.

LMP1s are more like of Class 1/GT500 corner speed while hypercars have a bit higher top speed. The Hypercars are cheaper & easier to maintain than LMP1s.

Lmp1 and hy were pretty close but i think, if i remember correctly the r18 had a top speed of 345kph on the mulsanne during the 2014 24h whereas the fastest hy was the Porsche at 344.5 kph. I believe this change would make the gap bigger

That wouldn't be standard hybrid deployment. In lmp1 there was a button on the steering wheel and modes that allowed the driver to dump more hybrid whenever. And they would typically do it at the end of straights to pass slower traffic going into a break zone. Normal hybrid would be a little lower top speed. That was the big problem between Toyota and the non hybrids, whenever Toyota wanted to get past a car they just hit the button and they now have an extra 500 hp at the end of the straight to pass. Also the highest top speed during 2014 race was 339kph and 2015 was 345kph

The power shown at the beggining is kinda deceptive. The hybridation doesn't work in the same way at all between LMP1 and Hypercar. LMP1's electric motor was added on top of the ICE. That's why they had enormous exit speed out of corners, that's when they deployed the electric. On the straight however, it couldn't be maintained all the way, so power go down to around 500 hp. On hypercar, electric motor replace part of ICE power, so the max is always 690 hp, whatever the mix of Electric to ICE is.

Before the hybrid race cars existed, the Group C regulations were better at high speeds whiile nowadays as hybrid race cars are much slower because they were killed by the regulations and even the rpm of the Mazda 787B was banned sadly.

I was just thinking about Hypercar vs LMP1 the other day. A good comparison would be Toyota GR010 vs TS030. They had very similar Le Mans qualifying times.

As another commenter pointed out, the actual real-world timing differences are just a few seconds b/t HC and 2014 LMP1. I love LMP1, but WEC must be doing something right with Hypercars because there's tons of brand participation right now, and I prefer the variety over having a few highly-funded programmes discouraging manufacturers with less funding from joining.

I still love the old LMP1 cars.... Not only they were fast, but they also have amazing looking cars. Karin Asaka & Emma Verde's Peugeot 908, Setsuna Yuki's 2011 Audi R18 TDI, Yuu Takasaki's 2006 Audi R10 TDI, and 2016 Porsche 919 Hybrid are some of them...

Current Hypercarse are snails in comparison to LMP1s, especially in race trim. This Audi could constanlty do sub 3:25 lap times during the race, whilst this year we saw sub 3:30 only occasionally. Let alone the LMP1s from 2015 onwards - lap times below 3:20 were common and to me it brought a lot of excitement - just how fast they were going. The Hypercars need a bit more speed, this is the top category, it should look fast (it doesn't now). There is room for that without compromising the regulations, both aero and power-wise.

Aston Martin wanted the cars to be 1100kg so they could compete with the valkyrie and then they pulled the plug and left Toyota to have to redesign their car to a degree. If not for Aston Martin the cars may have been closer to LMP1 numbers on paper, a shame for sure

​@@THEWINDTUNNEL Yes, that's right for the 2014 prototype. But in 2015 they made like a 6 seconds jump in terms of Le Mans laptime 😉 2016 was a little slowish for the prototypes due to limited energy, but they still would have outpaced Hypercar easily. Anyway, a good video, as usual 👍🏿

No way that LMP1... In 2014 the polesitter did 340km/h top speed and 3.21 ... And that LMP1 from AC is far away of reality, the energy/lap is very poor, not an accurate performance, etc...

LMP1 is kinda more of corner speed like GT500/Class 1 cars while Hypercars are bit better at higher speed. Group C cars can reach between 402km/h & 420km/h while Hypercars can only reach between 350km/h & 360km/h maximum. LMP1 can have 1000hp with the hybrid systems while the Hypercars have only around 700hp overall with the hybrid systems. Imagine if the regulations of the Hypercars has the same as Group C with the high speed & corner speed like Super Formula & GT500/Class 1 while the LMGT3/GTE cars have the regulations as Hypercars currently & the Class1/GT500 have the same as Indycars' high speed.

Cause of the v8 motor they run. Each manufacturer can run effectively whatever they want. The FIA has restrictions that still maintain a balance of performance though. But it makes it fun and keeps interesting seeing and hearing the wide variety of cars from the various manufacturers.

By having them compete in the same environment, it is clear that the LMP1-H cars are as close to formula cars as possible, while the LMDh cars have a taste of GT cars in them. The Cadillac has a top speed that is typical of American V8-powered cars, but its cornering speed is inferior to that of the Audi due to the sluggish response of the car body when cornering. On the other hand, the Audi's top speed is slightly less than the Cadillac's, but its cornering speed is faster and the car is more stable under braking. Both cars are very well built Le Mans prototypes, but I personally think that the Audi is the better choice because it pushes the limits more.

For 2014, you should've used the #7 Toyota and for 2024, you should've used the #6 Porsche. The respective pole winners of both years. Or you could've used the #2 Audi for 2014 and the #50 Ferrari for 2024. The respective race winners of both years.

You know you only calculated the horsepower of the engine but not the electric motors in the hypercars while you went ahead to calculate the total horsepower of the lmp1 and it made a huge difference between these 2 beasts. But why?

I'm surprised that the Caddy was able to home in on the Audi on straights despite its weight and lack of 300hp, but then it again it probably helps that the Audi has as much aero efficiency as a bloody brick. That thing is so slow on the straights.

the reason is audi r18 wasn't able to use elctric for long time they onlt used in accelation escaping the corner for 2~3 seconds. thats why this video has an error. audi's the cornering speed is much underrated.

In that era of LMP1 cars would use their hybrid power on corner exit and then lose it down the straight, so they would actually lose top end speed before the next corner.

Appreciate the effort but making them race is not a proper way to find out their ultimate performance. If they would be ghosting into each other and both taking the ideal line it would be.

The best LMP1 time of 2014 was a 3.21. The best Hypercar time 2024 was a 3.24.6. 3s faster around a lap while having lower Topspeed shows that the LMP1 is just much more performant. It just cant show in this simulation because it gets compromised by the Hypercar.

Something is horribly wrong with your "simulation". I wish you would check these over before posting them. Too often you have cars on here being driven completely wrong or just plain sandbagging like the AI can't drive them. This is one of those cases.

La Quattro de 2014 faisait pas 950hp du tous, renseignez vous avant de sortir de tel ânerie. Le moteur thermique faisait 500ch et le moteur électrique lui faisait 340ch soit un total de 840ch (850hp) et Audi utilisait une puissange de 6Mj contre 8 pour Porsche et Toyota. De plus, utiliser un jeu irréaliste pour faire des comparatifs est juste ridicule.

Hypercar performance is relatively old in modern times, but is done to cut costs. In 2014 the Audi was the slowest of the LMP1s and the hypercar struggled against it. So speed is not just redlining it also can be manipulated by way of downforce, torque/traction and weight. As the complexities add, the LMP1 is naturally more expensive than the hypercar due to the lack of restrictions for homologation. I feel although we have more competitors now, Hypercar is still a step back (more than a decade). Bring BACK LMP1 and GT1!

No it's not, what are you talking about. The old pre 2017 lmp2s were in the high mid 3:30s. With 2015 lmp2 pole being a 3:38. 2016 it rained in all 3 sessions. The hypercar pole was a 3:24 this year. They are significantly quicker. And they are around the same pace/a tad quicker than the post 2017 lmp2s pre slowdown.

@@sturmgewer44 In Interlagos. In Le Mans it's another story. In 2014, LMP2 cars in Le Mans qualified in the high 3:37's to 3:38's, which is like nearly 15 seconds slower than the Hypercars. Let's also remember than in 2014, Interlagos got resurfaced, which made the track a lot faster, reason as to why the 2014 F1 pole was actually faster than the 2004 lap which was the record before, despite 2014 F1 cars being much slower than 2004 cars. Let's compare another track, Fuji. The 2014 pole lap was a 1:26.886. The 2023 pole lap was a 1:27.794. The LMP2 pole in 2014 was a 1:33.062. So yeah, Interlagos was an exception.

@@sturmgewer44 they were 1 second quicker than that old lmp2s and as another comment started the track was resurfaced in 2014 giving it more grip than it has now that even a 2014 F1 pole lap was quicker than the 2004 pole and 2014 cars were slow as hell compared to 2004 all thanks to the resurface

It's a cool comparison but the V-seriesR is not a Hypercar... it's an LMDh car which is close to a Hypercar but different. You should compare a Ferrari 499P or a Toyota GR010. The numbers are nearly the same as a Cadillac, but the two categories works differently. I think the LMH-s are better at LeMans. The ICB-EV power ratio is different in a LMH and LMDh

LMP1 Hybrid could achieve about 1000 hp if all power deployed LMDh is limited to 670 hp. Also, for top speed, they are similar. In 2024 Le Mans, Porsche achieve 344 km/h top speed, but in LMP1 day, 345 km/h is normal.

LMP1 Hybrid actually had a lower top speed than Hypercar because they can't have all their power deployed the whole straight.

That turn 1 from the Hypercar was 100% impossible. Not even a McMurtry Spéirling Fan Car can do that at 100% fan downforce. Dude, I just watched the top speed after Tertre Rouge... NOT even the fastest HYPERCAR can go faster than the worst hybrid LMP1. This channel is posting things unverified... this is not good. Posting BS is not good. A Hypercar would need almost triple the downforce and double the HP to do that sector like that.

You know you only calculated the horsepower of the engine but not the electric motors in the hypercars while you went ahead to calculate the total horsepower of the lmp1 and it made a huge difference between these 2 beasts. But why?
