A printer can always be handy. Even though so much of our world is digital and it seems on the surface we don’t have a lot of reasons to want to print things, when you need a print out of an airline ticket, a list to take with you, or you need to sign a contract, sometimes having a printer can be very convenient. I recently bought the HP DeskJet 3755 to test out and review for my home office. In this review I’ll tell you about the set up process, with the printer can and can’t do, what the print quality is like for documents and photos, and if I can recommend it for you.
What is the HP DeskJet 3755?
This is a printer with quite a small footprint. It also comes in cute tropical colour combinations making it a bit of a bright spot for your home office. The printer will print, copy, scan, and do wireless printing including Apple air print. You can also use it to connect to HPs instant ink program which will automatically send you ink cartridges just before you run out.
Set up process
Getting this printer set up was mercifully easier than previous HP printers I have installed. I was able to get it connected to my home Wi-Fi and then able to print from both my iphone and my Apple MacBook Pro right away. In some cases you may need to install a certain printer drivers as I did previously, but this printer appears to work just fine with what I have. In just a few minutes it was printing.
One of the great things about this printer is that it is super compact. The paper sticks out the back of the printer so the footprint is actually quite small. There is no printed documents however, so if your printer is sitting on the edge of a table chances are high your papers will shoot the surface. But that’s a small price to pay.
Basic printing
With everything set up on Wi-Fi I was then able to print from my phone, laptop, and husband’s computer wirelessly.
Print speed testing - HP DeskJet 3755
I printed documents, and I can conform it prints fast! From time to hitting print to it activating was less than 5 seconds. A full page of black takes about 5 seconds, while shorter pages take far less time.
Colour takes a bit longer, spitting out a simple colour text page in about 15 seconds.
The print quality has been really good; clear, legible and no smudging or blurring.
You can use 8.5x11 paper or go up to 8x14-inch. It also supports Various sizes from 3x5 in to 8.5x14 in including letter, legal, 4x6 in, 5x7 in, 8x10 in & No 10 envelopes
Photo printing
This printer can also print high quality photos on dedicated photo paper.
You need to manually load the paper in the back, and you can load multiple sheets at once and it will only take what it needs.
Photo printing probably understandably take a while longer than a standard page; here it’s about 90 seconds per photo, which does feel very long. Even so, the photo quality is actually pretty good. The colours seem accurate and to match the original photo well.
Important to note if you exit the HP Print app before the photo is fully printed, it seems to disconnect and you’ll be left with half a photo, and some wasted ink too.
Unfortunatley I was not able to print photos straight from my photos app on my iPhone. The interface would just hang there and never advance or execute the print command. That was actually really annoying since it meant I was forced to use the HP Print app where I couldn’t view the dates on my photos.
When it came to copying and scanning, the HP 4155e worked well; documents feed in easily for copies, or you can scan them to your phone or computer with the HP app. Conversely, you can take a photo of a document on the phone and then print it on the 4155e too.
HP DeskJet 4155e: HP Smart printing app
If you want a little tech help with your printing, you can use HP’s Smart app. It givess you access to most of the same features as on the device itself, or on your phone, but you can also set up the HP Instant Ink program which will deliver ink to your door when your device runs low.
Overall review of HP DeskJet 3755
For the most part, the HP DeskJet 3755 works like a dream.
This is a great printer, and can match speed with other printers of the same size and type. The printer itself is light, easy to move, and the flexibility of having ink tanks which can store years of ink shouldn’t be underestimated. I also like that you can see the ink levels in the tank at a glance.
I’d recommend this printer particularly for an office where the bulk of printing will be done from dedicated computers, and are mostly document in black and white. Even so it’s capable at colour and multi-page document management too.
