Can a stock F350 handle a slide in camper? We add Torklift tie downs to a Ford f350 and see if it can handle a truck camper without airbags. Torklift also make FastGun tie downs and we will be setting them up and seeing how easy they are to use.

Two important questions not addressed, what is the weight of the camper and what is the payload capacity of your truck?

I have a 2019 F450 - all torklift products/tiedowns. Strongly recommend .. they'll be happy with them. I also had my son help me snake the bolts into the frame for the tiedowns.. haha. For future small trailer towing I replaced the stock hitch with torklift's magnum.

Glad to hear you like your TorkLift products. It’s good to hear they work well for others. Now that’s a really nice bitch, I don’t think they’ll need it though. I’m currently looking at adding TorkLift stabileload, I think it’s called, for the upper overload. I’m fairly confident that will add just the little bit of stability and load adjustment they need. Have any experience with them?

Did you have to register it as commercial? I was gonna get a ram 5500 a friend told me I was gonna have to register it as a commercial vehicle.
@marksr1907
@marksr1907 3 месяца назад
@@chrismcclary108 The GVWR is ultimately what changes the classification. So depending in where you live a 550 or 5500 (or even a 450 or 4500) may be "commercial". In most states a GVWR of 14,000 pounds or less does not require commercial classification which is why Ford sells the F450 in a pickup configuration with the severely underrated GVWR of 14,000 pounds. The truck is engineered for a good bit more than the sticker says. Lawyers, etc

This skims the surface of what I am trying to figure out. F350 single axle or Dually. I missed the part where you told us how much the camper weighs empty. I did see that payload rating answer below. I dont want to buy a Dually because I want to daily drive the truck when we are not camping or traveling, but I have been warned about the quality of the ride on single axle in winds and corners and especially off road when you have dips and gully's and such. My buddy says if you get a rear flat, all that weight will destroy the wheel as well, no saving it, and it could make it hard to maintain control at speed. This is killin me on what to do. Oh yeah, AND I will be pulling a 20 foot fiberglass Bass boat. Thoughts?

Personally, I’d let the weight of what you want to do decide. If you add up your payload and it’s maxing out the single than I’d go daily. But if you are not maxing out and room to breath on the payload. Go for the single rear. Especially if this is a daily driver and just doing avergae camping and such. No concerns in wind or windy corners with the load on this truck. It handles great. Especially after we added those overload spacers. The rig really drives nice. They take this rig off road ish. To camping areas so they can Jeep. He flat tows a Jeep behind the truck as well. With the dips and ruts the truck handles fine. Normal dirt road stuff. I wouldn’t take any truck with a camper this larger or larger off-roading. If that makes sense. Hopefully this helps. The gist of it is, let the weight decide. If your going to overload the single, get a dually.

I have 4x4 and a two wheel drive would be better because it sits a lot lower and your center of gravity goes down too. So if you don’t plan on going off a 2 wheel drive with a LSD diff will be a nice rig and a dually is the best for a big truck camper and with out 4 wheel drive your pay load goes up too .

2wd would make the camper easier to load. So if you can get away with it that would be ideal. For what this truck is used for, it wouldn’t make sense to not have 4x4. Especially when we start talking about camping in the back country or going into snow.

Nice video thanks. Curious what the door tag says about the payload capacity of your dad’s truck? BTW I’ve used upper Stableloads on a 99 F250 & found they work great.

We weighed the truck before they purchased it. The truck has a payload rating of, 4150. We wanted to make sure they were nice and safe to haul this camper around. Thank you for sharing your experience on the Stableloads! I think we are going to try installing these first and seeing what happens. We will do another test to see how it affects the ride. Glad you enjoyed the video!

Late to the party....thanks for the video. On my '19 350 SRW, I bought previously owned tork lifts that didn't come with the fish wire....I made my own out of some copper wire and the install went OK. For my '23 450, I found a new open box set on ebay missing only 3 of the 2x2 washers....TL sent them to me eventually. (They were very courteous, but seemed to have misplaced the order.) Something strange about this install....I pre-fit the mounts and everything lined up well except for the top hole using the bed bracket. It was a good 1/4 hole off. Thank goodness for China Freight and their one time use step drills. Hogged a little bit out of the truck, and a little bit out of the mount...rattle canned the bare metal and finished the install. Wondering if it was a TL bugger or a Ford change....both sides were the same. If it matters, the 11,5000 GVWR SRW 350 handled a Lance 990 like it wasn't there. Will be loading a single slide Eagle Cap on the 450 here shortly.....expect more of the same..

My self I would not haul a truck camper on a single wheel because if you blow a rear tire your on for the ride of your life and if I had a choice I would rathe the front blow out would be easier to control.
@EmbarkWithMark
@EmbarkWithMark Год назад
A front blow out would be far worse in my mind. You’d loos almost all steering. A dually is always preferred for heavier weight for many reasons. But honestly with the way these newer trucks are built, and the way newer tires are manufactured. I feel comfortable in it. We just keep good tires on the truck.

Where are you? I recognize the champion chevrolet front plate but unless you're in hawthorne or farther South, I don't know where the hell palm trees (4:47) would grow in NV.

I can’t remember the model, what year Ram? The ford hauls it very very well. I’m sure if the Ram is newer it will do the same.

the camper package includes a rear stabilizer bar ...in the view from underneath the truck at the rear differential, i DO NOT see the rear stabilizer bar hanging down...therefore this truck does NOT have the camper package.
