Automotive enthusiasts have always wanted a race car for the road, and with the 992 GT3 RS, that dream has become closer to reality than ever before. However, how well can the road car compete against a purpose-built race car around one of the most grueling racetracks in the world? We at the Porsche Exchange wanted to find out, and that's exactly why we brought the 992 GT3 RS, 992 GT3 Cup and 718 GT4 RS to Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin along with an incredibly talented racing driver, Dimitri Dimakos. Could we break a lap-record along the way? Perhaps...

Was the GT3RS on Cup2 or Cup2R tyres? Alone the slick tyres of the Cup could explain the 3-4 second advantage to the 3RS!

Unfortunately you can’t get slicks for a 20 and 21 inch wheel so you’d need to go down to 19s but then they wouldn’t fit over the gt3rs brakes

Wish there was more description and contrast between the two street cars and the cup car. How does the same engine feel in a race chassis? Great video nonetheless!

One of the US car mags features this CUP vs GT3RS in detail (I saw it in the airport) & included an overlaid trace of each car through each sector. They were virtually identical from memory.

@@user-hc1sf1zi9e hmm, both on control tires, I assume the CUP has a weight advantage, while the RS has a "race illegal" aero advantage.

Wish they went into more depth considering the opportunity they had. So much preamble and so little technical information or onboard video makes this seem conspicuously more like a PR piece than a passion project to me. For example, was it a tire limitation or the 200kg extra weight of the GT3 RS? Was this targeted at people interested in racing, or corporate heads with cash? If it's the latter, why would they care about how close the street cars are to the race car around a track? Aren't they more likely interested in owning a car that allows them to brag to their peers about 0-60 times, how much horsepower it has, or its top speed?🤔

Was a complete PR bullshit piece… realized that 3 minutes into the video waiting to watch actual laps at RA and these to fools are still just talking out of their ass (3-4 minutes left in vid= I’m not going to see the actual laps). Sorry if I sound kind of angry but I’m am lol.

Wish there was just all three raw laps… wayyyy to much talking about bullshit and marketing bullet points… clicked on the video hoping to see 3 different laps at RA and just got 7 minutes of a rich father & son talking out of their ass. And this is coming from a guy who’s dad spent nearly 20 years in GT3 Cup cars (996 & 997) and a few years in Carrera Cup and even one year in Carrera Super Cup (for the Super Cup, not in the actual super cup series that followed F1 but just that was his race car for a year).

On which TYRES was this test done? If the cup car had slicks and the others did not you must redo the entire test since its NOT VALID!

You've completely missed the point of the video. They're comparing the road car to the race car. Why would they put slicks on the road car? It would defeat the point of the test, which is to see what the difference is between the race car and road car.

Agreed that you are missing the point. It’s about running the cars in their normal state and comparing the difference. So really it’s very impressive that the gt3rs was able to get so close while on street tyres. It’s a demonstration of how effective the extra downforce it has is!

@@cam_121because if you were taking your GT3RS to the track and very serious/experienced, putting slicks on makes a lot of sense. Lotta people switch out slicks on their road cars at the track. It is a track day comparison. I want to know how they stack up on equal footing(tires)

I appreciate a lot the video and the idea behind it. I just wished you could have gone deeper into the comparison, and maybe ditch the soundtrack and at times almost feeling like a brand advertising. Keep it up

Lol so much stupid in this, put the 992 GT3 RS up against a good driver in a 991.2 GT3 RS lolololloo we all know the answer because we've seen it - marketing attempting to trump brain cells, reality, experience and tires. I'm so tired of Porsche marketing and their BS - its endless, stupid, counter productive and thats why the 992 GT3 RS is laughed at as a cars and coffee car.
