She was indeed very polite, but probably the awkwardness was mostly with her. It's very normal for most Asian cultures, Korean and Japanese especially, to ask people's age. (It's no secret or taboo like in some western cultures.) It's so they know what honorific to use! You don't want to call someone "little sis/bro" when you should be showing them the respect of someone older than you. ;)
I really like Christina's reaction, it's really cute and she is polite as well. Maybe she guessed their age lower because she doesn't want them upset, but I agree with her that everyone here has nice skin and they also look youthful.
I think that Christina was a great choice for this episode. You can tell she understands Asian culture well and she does well to communicate with them throughout and she even knows some Korean! She is well educated in intercultural communication and it shows. She made this very not awkward as I’m sure a lot of people could have. I hope I see her more on this channel
@@toribyambatsetseg4712 My mom and I have a nearly 30 yr age difference, yet over the last ten years people have often asked mom if I'm her younger brother 😂
@@mohinirai2768 my mom is literally 32 years older than me and when we went for my 3rd grade PTM my teacher asked where my parent was and why my sister was here (I don't have a sister lol)
In fact, everyone looks about their age. 1. Kotoha at 22-26 2. Guy at 25-30 3. Woman at 40-45. 4. Jane at 25-30. 5. Man at 65-70. We must make allowances for race. When you communicate a lot with different people, it is not so difficult to guess the range. Outwardly, you can look great, but age is better betrayed by the sight (eyes), demeanor, manner of speaking, etc.
true. very few people guess my age correctly even tho my style and demeanor fit my age or even above, as i work with people 10 yers older than me that are more cooled down. im 26 and a lot of people think im barely 18... only teachers guess soewhat correct, what a surprise, haha.
it's like asian guessing westerner's age, i'm asian when i see westerner's tiktok i'm surprised by the age. i guess she is 21-25 years old but in fact he is still 16 years old.
I was talking to this white guy the other day. I thought he must be at least 50, it turns out he is younger then I am. He was 30 and I am 37. And the sad thing for him is that, I look way younger.
Honestly I guessed everyone’s age a bit higher than their actual age. I don’t think any of them look particularly that young. First girl I thought was 28-30, second the guy 26-28, third lady 40-42, fourth lady 35-38, fifth man 60-65. And I thought the American girl look to be about 30-35
Same. I think bc I’ve watched a lot of kdramas I’ve become accustomed. But I remember in the beginning, whenever I’d look of the actors age I used to be shocked.
Another tip is that sun bathing is not popular in Asia as it does in the West. Getting some sun is good but sun bathing in order to get tanned is unhealthy for the skin. Though, I have to say, Christina, you have really great skin.
Can you guess my age Christina? I'm half korean n half african american with cherokee. I definitely don't look my age nor does my mother who is full korean.
The secrets to slow the aging are: 1- eat hot rice everyday. 2- reduce unnecessary sugar intake 3- drink warm-hot water regularly and avoid too much ice water 4- move a lot to sweat 5- do any exercises that level down you head and face than the heart.
I think she didn't say how old she thought they were so as not to hurt them, because to me some even look older My guesses were: (from girl to eldest) 1. 27-29 (My first guess was 21, but when the camera zoomed in on her, I realized she wasn't as young as I thought, so I switched to 27-29.) 2. 24-29 3. 40-48 (if this lady changes her style a bit then she will look a little younger) 4. 32-35 (She looks older to me) 5. 65-70 (From the gray hair I couldn't think he was any younger than that, looks like my father) The people in the photos had a lot of filtering.
Thanks for the video. You are so polite and good at leading the show making the guests feel comfortable! I'm Korean but it's still difficult to guess other Korean people's age myself.
As an Asian living in Australia, I need to show my IDs very often even tho I’m 35, It used to annoy me but as I get older I start to consider it a nice perk to have.😂
There's this Mongolian BBQ place that I used to go to when I was about 20, and went there every day. Got to know the cooks and servers really well. I moved out of the area, and come back about 20 years later. Not joking here, they all pretty much looked the same. The gal that most often worked there 20 years ago looked exactly as she had when I left. She was at least 40 now, but still looked 20. I also had a Vietnamese friend in high school (this was in the early 90s). I went to his house one day, and was chatting with him and his sister. Until I found it it was his mom. And it's not like she got married young to an older guy. My friend showed me their wedding pictures, from the early 1960s (I could recognize those clothing styles anywhere).
I was a housemother at the high school dorm in my early 30s and everytime shadowers came to visit they asked what grade I was in. It’s not always nice as an authority figure.
True. Im a registered nurse for years and patients assume im a student interning and sometimes they talk down on me. Internally, im thinking i am old enough to be some teen patient's parent/aunt.
It’s fairly easy to tell what decade of life someone is in, but sooo hard to tell their exact age. People say I look younger than my age (26), but I do think that, unless you’ve made come extremely bad life choices, there really isn’t that much of a difference between a 22 year old and a 26 year old in terms of appearance. I would say that if you look like the decade you’re in (20s, 30s, 40s etc), you look your age. If you are in your 30s, and look like you’re in your 20s, then you look younger than your age. Also, those actors at the beginning are stunning. But the photos are also edited so it’s not a fair comparison. It’s easy to facetune yourself to look 20+ years younger, Madonna does it on her Instagram all the time. I think they should have used unedited images of how the actors look irl.
asian do aged abit diffrently than western. its the area of changes that are diffrent. rather than wrinkle, our face change abit when we aged. atleast korean, japan and chinese. idk about other asian. 30 probably asian prime age for korean actor esp idols. they have magical skincare. even as asian myself i'm still shocked with their age. even irl they look exactly like that
@@mushroomexpress3049 Yes for sure! Different people age differently depending on a variety of factors: including ethnicity, health status, stress levels, access to skin care and treatments etc
You guys don't even understand the culture shock I got when I transferred from an Asian High school to an American Highschool... The differences in height, weight, body hair, posture, attitude, style, facial hair, muscle was so astronomical. Most of the seniors in my previous high school looked like they belong in the 8th-9th grade in the American schools kjfkdjfskjsfkdjfsdf. Like we don't even have any people at or above 6ft. 6 footer high schoolers in Asia (or atleast in the school where I went to) is such an outlier, almost non-existent in 9th-10th graders. Here in America, so many students are close, at , or above 6ft lol. Also their facial hair and skin texture and probably skeletal and muscular structure makes them look older in OUR eyes.
America is a rich country. Their kids get nutrition better than rest of us that is why they are pretty much tall besides genetics. Tall people make more money and successful in life.
No she is not being nice by lying she is telling truth cause most West people assume asian to young compared to their age cause white people tend to look much older compared to their age yeah maybe she is faking but most white would be surprised when some young looking asian guys would tell their exact age
Hello , i've enjoyed your videos , especially with Christina and Lauren , i've learned a lot of things with you guys about different countries and continents 🇺🇲🇨🇦🇬🇧🇩🇪🇨🇦🇯🇵🇰🇷🇨🇳
I LOVE THIS 🤣 The moment I saw the title I knew I had to click on the video. Asians just have great genetics. We got that baby face. As well as Us Asians in general- we take great care of our skin 😌
I love the girl. She is so sweet and polite. And beautiful 🤣 I think it's true there re many factors for someone to look younger/older. Like genetic, skin care, stress, and even styles. Even for twins, of the other one styling themselves in mature way, some ppl might think the other one looks a bit older. So... Yeah, it's hard to guess ppl's age accurately
I was planning my wedding last year and was raving about it around my western colleague at a party when all of a sudden her husband, looking all concerned asked me “if you don’t mind how old are you” to which I replied I’m 29. He went all “Jeeesusss christt” you don’t even look 20. Took it as a compliment. But other time I would find them talking to me in sort of a patronizing way, or in a high pitched like voice like please, talk to me like an adult? So it def got a good and bad side to it.
Sometimes it's just like that. I look younger than I really am (30) but a friend of mine who is the same age as me who definitely could be at least 10 years older
yeah same! for whites it really comes down to skincare and lifestyle. a lot of people think 30 zear olds look old, but they are looking at people drinking and smoking their whole life
i'm 23 yo and a few weeks ago i went to the doctor and he told me i looked 15 but then like two days later i bought a panda cake for my younger brother's birthday and the lady thought it was for my son, lmao, which means she probably thought i was like over 25 i think the way you dress makes the most difference with age, especially to distinguish between teenagers and early to late 20s, when i dress kinda cuter ppl think i'm young but if i dress up with a blazer and stuff they might think i'm older
Or pleaseee, the Singaporean guy has had plastic surgery, drum roll…. In South Korea. He has had a rhinoplasty and an eye-lift. He is also on male hormone therapy. Many of these ‘young’ looking older Asian celebrities have gone for some skin procedure, treatment or surgery or a combination of a few or all of the above.
Suggestion for the next : a quiz with America 🇺🇲🇨🇦, Asia🇨🇳🇰🇷🇯🇵 , Europe 🇩🇪🇬🇧🇮🇹 and Oceania 🇭🇲🇳🇿 about ages , cultures , countries and anything else , it's really enjoyable
I'm Chinese born & living in the US. When I was buying a lottery ticket @ a liquor store, the cashier asked to see my driver's license. Need to be 18. I was 28! Haha!😂 Many do not understand or maybe don't care that drinking alcohol, smoking, or sun tanning will age a person a lot!
Idk, I think they all look older. Wrinkles are not the only way to tell age. The woman next to the old man I thought looked SUPER old compared to her real age. Maybe it was just that jacket.
In general Asians tend to look younger than they actually are. With northeast Asians it's really a challenge to guess their age. They tend to have flawless skin tones and soft skin texture. As you will also notice the northeast Asians have lily white skin as opposed to the Caucasian slight reddish white skin. Caucasians mature physically at a very young age but tend to age physically much faster than Asians.
I think it's more based on somebody's perception of age tbh. To me, all these people look their age if not a bit older. And Asian people in general never look particularly young (to me) they just have nice skin. But if someone is used to seeing people look older than they are, their perception is different.
@@Samantha_Lee I agree. No matter how small they are or the nice skin, you can still tell. With white women, I never have a clue. Either they look really young or really old. With black women, I can never tell either. Many look like children but are adults. You see this a lot in the Caribbean. Children in high school looking like 10 year olds.
exactly! to me, white people have pink skin, the really pale asian girls have actual white (pale white) skin. Dunno why they call us yellow and white people white.
@@norahelaine6041 I don't think asians look young, I think they look their age. But when i look at white women, I'm almost always shocked by their ages; I think they're 50 and they're like 28. But with white men, they're pretty much where I expect them to be.
I’m 24, white Caucasian male but look 16, it’s genetic though in my case. There are pictures of my mum aged 30 where she could easily pass as a school girl. She’s now 63 and looks early 40’s, late 30’s with the right lighting. She has a stressful life and isn’t a health freak either.
as a Chinese person who is turning 20 this year, some people think I am 14-16 while some others out there think I am 27-29. I understand all of them actually. I am 5'3 which is really short for a guy so with that maybe I do look like a teen from many perspectives. However, I am extremely calm at times which makes me not seem like an undergrad student who is very active which makes others think I'm about to be 30 years old
The first looks at least 35 and above to me. Her skin looked very tired, not fresh and young like women in their 20s. The 4th looks near 40 to me too, maybe because of her makeup
Many scientific institutes are struggling with the question of the aging of the body, but there is still no answer why some are aging faster than others. Good nutrition, the absence of bad habits and positive are the key to success. Then, if you love a woman, she is always beautiful and young for you. With best wishes.👍🇺🇦🌹
I'm an Asian and I'm 14 but people think I'm in my 20s - 30s and I have a kid. I'm 12yrs older than than my sis and people think she is my daughter. Kids always make fun of be because I'm tall , little chubby and a bit light skinned. They call me big foot . I don't know what to do and cry all the time because I'm ugly. If anyone is reading this it is my request, please don't body shame others it will kill their confidence and make them stress. I'm depressed and sad and I feel like I'm useless everyone make fun of me everyday even my own friends and family members insult me :(
She is very polite, they look just like their age. Some people exaggerate this about asians. Im Middle Eastern and i look way younger than my real age, always people think im still in high school while im almost 30!. So it depends ..🤷🏻♀️
I’m also Asian, Japanese to be exact and people often tell me I look younger than I really am. I’m almost 30 and people would guess I’m either still a student or in my early 20s. Doesn’t help that I have a baby face too.
I think instead of Westerners a better the term is Anglos or pale skin white people. Most of us with more melanin in their skin don’t look age as quickly. I’m in my 40s and I have zero wrinkles. I get carded because people think I’m in college or high school. Black Don’t Crack and Asian Don’t Raisin. TBH I thought Christina was like 30 or 32 based on looks. So she looks her age.
I was about to say the same thing. I'm a westerner. I'm 26, and people assume I'm between the age of 16-22. People are shocked when I say I'm close to 40. My boyfriend who is of Scandinavian descent looks older and he's only a year older than me.
Not all Westerners are Anglo-saxon descent though?! So how would that make sense to call white people Anglo? Edit: I read your comment again and understand what you were saying!
Maybe that's common thing for east and southeast Asians that is to look younger that their actual age. I was once being a tour guide for European students, 4 of them told me that I look like 17-18 y.o, while at the moment I was 26 already lol
@@abbiereynolds8016 yes they are asian,he didn't say they were not.He just said if they included more different types of Asians it would be better,or at least that's what I assumed :)
@@BryoMoss oh..that's kinda weird tho cus if they're talking Abt Asians then east Asians aren't the only type of asians, even the other type of asians look young too :/
Honestly think she was just being nice not to offend anyone. Like #3 no way looks like she’s in her 20s. Also I was surprised #4 was 29. I would have guessed 35 at least.
I think they all look their age! But it's because people associate way older looks to age. For example there was a viral tweet of a girl who was 30 and was skating and people were like amazed because for some reason 30 yo can't do that as they're old. So yeah!
i went for a cashier interview, and the lady asked me to bring my school's assessement or something expecting me to be in my senior year at 17, but i'm almost 30 😂
I’m korean as well, 19 year old female. And people ALWAYS think I’m around 14-15. To be honest it kind of pisses me off to look younger than my actual age. I’m a woman, not a child... People in my class (I’m an art student) first thought I was a middle schooler visiting the school. It really lowers my confidence sometimes haha. I tried putting on makeup and gaining some weight to look older, but it just makes me look weird. It’s like a curse 😰
Im european but actually have the same problem! I’m 19 but everyone thinks I’m 15-16! My two younger siblings look older than me, including my 13 year-old brother
2 years ago when I was 26. I went to Vegas every time before I buy cigarettes or alcohol cashier asked me to show my ID. That’s when I truly understand Asians look younger.
I'm 53 and until recently (thanks, pandemic!), people used to think I was in my mid-30s... my mom is 82 and has consistently looked 25 years younger pretty much my whole life.
you guys need to do one of these for guessing black peoples age. I swear I am shocked regularly when I find out ages of black people. They are a little different story than asians though in the sense that when they are younger they tend to look older than their age but as they get older they just don't change much so that a 14 year old "boy" can be mistaken for a grown man because of his size, voice, mannerisms and just looks in general but then I have met men and woman who are into their 80's and I would think they were in their 50's I think black folks might have the longest time where they just kind of look the same as the years go by. very good genetics.
Correct! I sometimes wonder the "true" ages of the black slaves in old photos on plantations. I suspect they were much, much older than what is in the photo caption.
My wife is asian, we have been married for almost 15 years and she look 12-15 years younger. I am 1 year older than her, and sometimes i worry that people might think i married a teenager 😄
There will always be stress. Being active helps you stay young. And eating certain foods that helps with your collegan levels and certain foods that slows the aging process down has allot to do with it. Plus South Korea is well known for healthy foods and foods for medicinal purpose and remedies. And their cosmetic products are the best.
whenever I have to guess someone's age, I try to guess a little lower than I think, cause I know it can make you feel bad if you are guessed older. I think most people do that, I am always guessed a little younger than I am, but nothing too crazy. Once a guy guessed me 4 years older, ouch 😂😂😂 (I am 32 😊)
I'm also Asian, but I don't think it's from skin type and skin care that makes Asians look younger but from body shape, hormones and food. If Asian people are compared to western people, their body shape is smaller and Tiny than western people who have a tall and big body shape. and Asian faces still look baby faces even though they are old, while western people's faces look more mature than their age. And what causes it all is because of differences in hormones, body shape and the food we eat every day.
Possible... but I am half swiss and half filipino living in Switzerland. I have a rather big body shape, more like my father's side and eat more european/ swiss food. But still I am guessed so much younger and I do look younger than I am.. So it probably is because of the genetics.. and maybe the skin type does matter
Not all asian look baby face bro r u ok maybe u r watching too many hollywood movies ..asian looks younger cause white people got little pigment to save their skin from ultraviolet to make things worse they take sun bathing to make their skin look tan than regret when they look more older than their age ...also genetics diet play some roles
One time i was with my grandmother and we met this girl and her mom at a small store. I guess my grandmother and her mother knew each other because they’d seem to talk like old friends. Anyway, my grandmother asked for the girls age, saying “She’s at least 15.” **She was 11** Seriously though Americans look at least 2-3 years older than they are. When I was in 6th grade, I remember some woman mistaking for a 8-9th grader since I have tall genes and apparently looked really old back then.
I was sending my toddler to school the other day with his hand in mine. After dropping him off, the receptionist said to me: “have a good day in school yourself!” I’m 33.
I’m mixed race in a way most relevant for this video. It’s hard to tell the age even for Caucasian people, Asians just have an ambiguous range between 20-40 I fall for it sometimes as well. People kept asking me for an iD until around 30-33 kids asking ware like 18-20, it wasn’t the height I think (5’11”-6’).
Everyone around me always guesses my age wrongly that sometimes it kinda makes me sad bcs i look older than my age. When i was still a kindergarten kid, everyone was like "what grade (of elementary school) are you in now?" And my parents were like "no, she is still a kindergarten kid". Well, it still happens a lot 'til now 🥲🥲
