@Travis Bourg See, here's the thing... if he'd had kids, it's more than likely that he'd be a middling dude right now who'd all but given up on his dreams. He'd more than likely be content with working hard each day and waddling home, weighed down by responsibility. It's more than likely he'd be in a full fledged midlife crisis at this point, especially given how strongly he feels about his racing career. Kids and family responsibility will do that to you... they put a weight on you, strip you of your time and compel you to sacrifice your greatest dreams. Now, am I saying that kids are bad? Not at all; in many ways, children are the greatest blessing anyone can have. But they can also be a curse depending on what your priorities are. This man is putting himself and his dreams first... he seems to have a wonderful bond with his pops and in a good place in life overall. He's alright, and more power to him.

How? He's a middle-aged man living at home putting all his money into a "fast and furious" fantasy while endangering his community on a near nightly basis. That race track looking for drivers is a scam, it's basically paying out for a cool dude award. No one is scouting zero experienced drivers in their late 30's. His car isn't even what he would race. Again No one is going to sponsor a $60,000 car to a driver with zero experience. He's going to be driving go-karts or spec Miatas for three or four years before he can even think about racing a BMW like that.
@phillylove7290
@phillylove7290 4 года назад
Basically the reality of pro racing isn't at all like this guy's fast and furious fantasy. It's racing underpowered spec cars or go-karts for 5 years until somebody thinks you're good enough to race an expensive one. Most pro racers start-off really young like 8-12 years old. This guy thinks his amateur street racing actually crosses over into skill on the track, it doesn't. Go-kart racing would give you better skills for the track.

@trackguy504

@FuckILoveYouTubby yes, it is a huge stretch for him to make it to be a pro racer...however, as long as he's not going 'all-in' in it, there's no harm in dreaming and having fun at the same time. Who knows, maybe he can be a paid driving instructor or have some smaller role in motorsports. Throwing a negative attitude about this guy may push him back to street racing - which is a negative to all of society.
@phillylove7290
@phillylove7290 4 года назад
@@trackguy504 This guy has better chance of injuring/killing someone as he does making into Pro Racing. Any amateur, semi-pro or pro racer will tell you not only will you crash while racing but you will crash often. Doing it on crowded public streets with families is a really dumb idea. I have no problem with somebody chasing a dream I have a problem with people taking others dreams.

At some point we have to lose the dream of successful racecar driver... I have a buddy, turns laps in a late model every weekend in the summer, runs last, every race.. he's been doing it for 6 years, the car is fast, him as a driver is not, I took his car out n placed 2nd out of 18 cars n, in the same field of cars.. it's boat loads of money, my local track closed years ago n now we have to travel 2 and half hours one way to race, add up fuel, n all that, at some point if ur not good u have to give it up.
@trackguy504
@trackguy504 4 года назад
@@JaredBeaucage There's different levels of racecar driver, and also different ways to make money in the sport (instructor/coach/tracksupport/etc.). I agree, if he's complaining about one track day being $1000, then relative to him, it is a lot of money to get to even the amateur levels. As far as age goes, yes, at the higher levels of racing, he's probably too old (particularly by the time he'll get to that level). However, there's a number of guys racing in amateur/club levels that are older...then again, those are guys that make their money elsewhere and burn it at the track.

You've got two big problems here, #1 a guy who doesn't have the lifetime experience he needs to be considered for a position as a professional driver (most all professional drivers have decades of experience starting back when they were kids doing kart racing and learning fundamentals etc. that jolted them into being top tier candidates), and #2 the world of motorsports is dying a slow and painful death as more and more tracks close or gain stricter regulations by city councils reducing days that they can race and increasing cost of maintenance and ownership as well as fewer people willing to pay the enormous costs of running their vehicles on the track. He's got a good mindset and is likely an above average driver but he's decades away from being a candidate for a professional driver as there's all of maybe 100 paying positions for them in all of the United States. Most racing teams you see nowadays like GT2 or GT3 teams that aren't run by the manufacturer themselves the driver actually PAYS THE TEAM to let them drive the car which can cost upwards of $150,000 per season ontop of having to be certified and the costs associated with that too. Only the top of the top of the top get paid any money to drive professionally, for example the lowest paid formula 1 driver has an annual salary of $170,000 whereas the highest makes $57 million per year. Not to mention the truth is that any serious team wouldn't hire a driver who is known to race on the streets as it's a liability if they were to get injured, arrested, or worse and have to either drop their season or find a new driver immediately. For example Moto GP riders are usually not allowed to ride their personal motorcycles anywhere during the racing season as it's an extreme liability if they were to get into an accident and injured because the team doesn't have a backup rider.

That’s funny. I lived out there and you should see in the early morning. A lot of people commute to NYC or Jersey for work and I mean everybody in those states is booking it like we all late 😂😂. The car scene is actually pretty lit. Not a lot of kids have the money right away but once they do it goes to the cars! We also have the monthly car meets like cars and coffee.

i've had many humbling experiences at lime rock and Watkins. I always cringe when people talk about horsepower and strait-line acceleration like its the end-all be-all. I distinctly remember a guy in a dodge neon pummeling a guy in his viper (not one of the lime rock sponsored vehicles). the look on the Viper driver's face was priceless when it was done and he came to the pit. He couldn't seem to fathom how a 460hp v-10 got slaughtered by a 120hp 4 cyl... and no he wasn't that bad of a driver just average. shows you how much skill is really involved. knew exactly what Joey was feeling. so many of these new cars are so far beyond the average person's skill level.

I've been into cars my whole life and still am. At 36, what I got to tell younger guys is figure out a way to make money first, and a lot of it. You can't get to that high level by working some crappy job and hoping that big money will come to sponsor you. Life moves fast and before you know it, you'll be hitting 40 like this guy. The guy has passion and a lot of heart but chances are that he won't ever make it as a professional. It's a young mans game and those particular types of drivers have been racing professionally all their lives since they were little kids. Most people that get into the modified car lifestyle are in it for about 5 years and get out. They get married, have kids, want to buy a house, travel etc etc. To truly be dedicated to this lifestyle while working an average job means you will have to do a whole lot of sacrificing. You only get one life, you really want to spend it sacrificing your whole paycheck on a car and have no family? Or say you have a wife and kids, you're going to let them struggle like crazy cause the household income is being spent on your racecar? So bottom line, GET RICH before you think about doing some super crazy shit with cars for your entire life.

If you're starting your racing career with a sponsored wrap car, someone else holding your steering wheel and adjusting you're seat position +a vice documentary - you know its going to be a tough one.. I hope he gets there - but be prepared for a concreting career and a few classics in your garage. prove us wrong!
