Can Ancient Evil Save Black Ops 4 Zombies? Here's the TRUTH. (Ancient Evil Review)

This map really is a tale of two perspectives: on the one hand, the map really is well designed, but on the other, it's a Black Ops 4 map, not a Black Ops 3 map, and the community simply isn't as big right now. Really happy with Treyarch for this DLC, Ancient Evil is an awesome map and was delivered excellently! Kudos to Treyarch, and hoping the rest of the season goes just as good.

I really want the zombies community to be revived again. We never reached the heights we accomplished back in bo3, but I believe if we all work together and give Treyarch enough feedback, I really do think we can bring back the hype that made bo3 so unforgettable.

The next dlcs are aether so hopefully that saves this game.

I would love a map in Egypt(I’m Egyptian) it could work well with underground secret tunnels in the pyramid and being able to enter the Sphinx etc. I wouldn’t like the map being entirely underground though.

I have stopped playing CoD Zombies because of how horrible the launch of zombies has been for Blops 4. I mean name me one time where rounds, mobs, and weapons needed balancing at launch. Or where there were so many issues that Easter egg steps were changed in patches. The huge departure from the old formula alienated me as a die hard fan, but the extreme lack of quality has left me unable to justify putting time into this or any future CoD zombies. I only bought CoD for Zombies. Now I have no reason to buy CoD. They force the invasive micro transactions and at the same time still force us to buy the maps. I'm out. I have no patience any more for this clear lack of regard for the players. Edit: It is 2019... why the fuck are you still using peer-to-peer matchmaking when we still have to dump 50 bucks on DLC.

Used to love Treyarch zombies, I played it every day and spent lots of money playing it. For me when they changed the perk system I lost all interest. I absolutely hate the new perk system

I used to play zombies night and day. Ever since black ops 3, I have been opening my game every Map release day, discover the new map and hunt for the easter egg NON-STOP for 24hrs to a week and then never touch the game again until the next release. I love the zombies experience and I love black ops 4 and I would probably pay 50 to 100$ PER MAP just for that hunt experience.

Its so funny how every RU-vidr that didn't get invited out changed there tone towards the game REAL quick.

Getting Aether in the next Dlc is going to feel like such a comeback, remember when the OG crew came back in Origins reveal. On top of that ending chaos for now on such a good note. Dlc 3 and 4 have the potential to bring us innovation that will result in one of the greatest maps of all time. Get hyped this is it....

Depends on the Aether storyline within the next few maps. Treyarch needs to execute the finale perfectly with the Great War map. Have more cool aesthetic boss fights with something crazy to save BO4 zombies like bringing the crews together including Victis

How to revive bo4 zombies... stop spawning catalyst and boss zombies every round, turn them into ammo rounds. Make double pap abilities as strong as bo3 so high rounds are more enjoyable. Don't tie pap or wonder weapons to the easter egg steps. Add leaderboards. Give equal reward system to match blackout and multiplayer. Add medal system like multiplayer eg round 20,40,60,80,100 to give players goals to aim for. Add small fun EE that trigger fun map events. Maybe In the future make small pure survival maps that could be released inbetween the main EE maps like ww2 did with the little house.

The Black Ops 4 cycle is looking like the Black Ops 2 cycle, starting and dlc 1 maps were ok to moderately bad, then dlc 2 brings a great map, followed by 3 & 4 also being great, and fan favorites! Let’s hope it ends that way!

No matter what treyarch does they can’t save this game, the new zombies system just doesn’t work as well as previous treyarch zombies games

I know that no one is going to read this and that it’s a little random, but do you think we, as the community, should try to petition to add weapon inspections into Black Ops 4 Zombies? The left bumper is unused and so is the action of holding down the “Y” or “triangle” button... perhaps these could be used for weapon inspections? I feel that the Pack A Punch camos are really cool and it would be awesome to see them. Also, on some weapons the kill counter or clan tag cannot even be read; I feel that this addition would greatly improve the quality of life in Black Ops 4 Zombies! Edit: I know left bumper is shield, but I still feel that we can push this for installation into this game! Maybe we could hold down a button or something?

Personally even though i didnt like the perk mechanics initially I've Come to appreciate them. Chaos story is becoming more interesting which is great and the next maps are Aether so the future is looking bright

Ancient Evil shows that they still know how to make a good map. If they apply that to the 2 Aether DLC maps coming up (and they are on par with AE or potentially better), then I think they can bring the community back, and get a hype train for season 2.

The fact the map is great has nothing to do with the BO4 mechanics. I don't see why a map would save BO4 zombies if people bitch about the mechanics.

Since ancient evil's is a really good map and it's DE 2.0 and coming out tomorrow for Xbox and PC, then my answer you is 50/50 chance of yes it is.

I just want a Zombies Chronicles 2 with better versions of Call Of The Dead, Die Rise, Buried, Zetsubou, Gorod and maybe even Tranzit! Only then can I die peacefully 😭

For me, this map reminded me that Treyarch is capable of fantastic things. From the teasers to the trailers to the map's launch, I think this map was made with the intent to bring people back and give us a reason to love the Chaos Story. This map feels drastically different from the launch maps as well as Dead of the Night. Like more care was put into it. And it shows

big agree on that last little stretch. nothing will get solved or change if the community keeps going “okay maybe this map, this mode, this system” and keep kicking the can when the previous thing doesn’t meet expectations. if things haven’t changed this far into the game, it is a very easy thing to think it actually won’t change or “be saved.” obviously things like ae are fantastic breaths of fresh air to get, but it doesn’t change that one, two weeks later, we’re back the same lull period. it’s an inherent problem with the game, the studio, something. it’s hard to pinpoint, and maybe doesn’t need to be. there’s just problems. and it sucks that we can’t have this conversation without a pocket of the community writing off absolutely everything like this that is said and saying we’re blindly hating, or that people like myself are as empty-headed as it gets and can’t think for myself for some reason, and i’m only saying what i am because some youtubers said it. we get no credit for being adults with actual thoughts, not mindless drones parroting what you or others say. that’s why some left the community because they’re ridiculed for every little thing they say or do and can’t just talk. if we were blindly hating the game, i’m pretty sure we wouldn’t care less how the game performs and move on, but we haven’t. we’re here because we care and want to see something change. plugging your ears to every dissenting opinion doesn’t solve anything. you write it off as hate and whining and we can’t just talk as a community. we’re more divided than ever, and i genuinely hope something can change. this map was great and it was great to see the community unite in agreeing with something. but i guarantee it’s short-lived. maybe we’re growing out of the mode. i don’t know honestly.

Milo, 3arc has to know about this. I was in the process of the EE and had to realign the crossbow thing. I ran out of ammo on Ouranos in the middle, so I switched gauntlets. After that, my gauntlets we’re slowly disappearing until they were gone. LSS, I was unable to complete the EE. Thanks and keep it up!!!

You have been with zombies longer then most of the other youtubers and have done so much for it. You brought the story of zombies to the front face of the game and got everyone involved. You single handily made people invested and intrigued. Fully gutted for you and hope this changes

If anyone thinks the blood gauntlet is trash it's kinda not even tho u can still get trapped with it but the best thing about it is it acts as a squlifiyer from die rise n it leaves a bloody acid when u shot ur charged shot which u can stand in it for some extra kills

I've always said that we should just have the liquid divinium system back. I would play so much more if I could earn way more elixers that weren't just commons and also not having to play 3-4 hours for 1 tailsman.

You know, I really think that Voyage and Dead of the Night just shouldn’t have happened. IX and Ancient Evil are both pretty decent maps with interesting storylines and interesting cutscenes. I think Dead of the Night’s ending is just AWFUL. I don’t dislike Chaos but I don’t think it’s nearly as charming as Aether. People talk about it being “Old” and “Done” but I think the major thing that makes people want to come back to Aether rather than Chaos is the characters. Personally Shaw and Diego are the only characters I enjoy hearing from and both of them have minimal importance. Bruno and Scarlet just bore the Hell out of me and that’s something the Ultimus and Primis crews just can’t do.

I think it has to do with the state of how zombies started, how the chaos maps were first received, how dlc 1 did and the fact that this mode didn't live up to the hype it built.

I appreciate your take on the map. As a casual but loving fan of zombies, I don't Egg hunt or follow reddit. But, I have found the progression system in BO4 zombies to be the best in the series. I love being able to upgrade weapons and create new challenges for myself and my friends using that system. I understand that the progression may be lackluster for hardcore players, but it is very rewarding for casual players.

Maybe if we just earned progression in the battlepass (like multiplayer and blackout) and actually be able to earn reserve crates, the zombies community would feel less underappreciated

IW's "attack of the radioactive thing" was a GREAT EE very underrated with a huge puzzle like you just said.

The part about "heart and soul" in dev work being torn apart for failures isn't like people hating art, it's more like a restuarant making a good product. Each recipe has to be unique and interesting, but also consistent with itself and appealing to a wider set of tastes that critics have. If you poor your "heart and soul" into making a steak but you overcooked it, your other work isn't simply overshadowed by a flaw people have overblown, you've simply missed an essential step of the cooking process. Likewise, Treyarch didn't have their work overshadowed by bluescreens, they missed an essential part of the artform (that they're well aware of), which is just basic negligence. They overcooked the steak. In this analogy, we've gotten a new steak as updates have rolled out, but that still sours the taste of many players, disregarding any other flaws in the game.

Sorry for the multiple comments, but I just have to say it (again and again, but still): I think that the *NUMBER ONE* biggest detriment of BO4 zombies, despite its virtues and its potential... is the new perk system. I gave it a chance.. or tried to... but I am definitely on the same page as Milo when he says "there is no magnetic pull" to this game. I love tooling around on IX, but to this day I've never done a single one of the eggs. And I think the NUMBER ONE REASON is that they *SEVERELY* underestimated how much people love Jugg, Speed Cola, Double Tap, et al. ......PLEASE bring back the old perks in the next game.... (3yrs later.. :( )

I hold the 4 player world record speed run on AE and at least from my POV it is easily the best and most fun Easter egg to play and speed run and I know that my team agrees, and I think this is because of the amount of variation and tactics you can employ.

I think a lot of people are burned out on zombies as well. Instead of grinding every third call of duty, we have been grinding zombies every cod since AW

The problem with COD Zombies is that the fans don’t consider themselves to be a part of the greater COD community, and so they don’t get treated as such, and then these fans complain about less support and promotion for their (less than) third of the game

As a completely casual zombie player i have to say the new map feels like someone just threw a bunch of preexisting assets together and called it a day. Its visually chaotic, while offering nothing especially new in terms of design. And i didnt find it much fun to play the first time around. The maps already included with BO4 are way better imho.

What i rlly dislike about newer maps is how much knowledge you need in em. Ancient showd for me and my friend when played it 1st time. That to get 4th perk requires again little bit to do. You have to build this and that. It's hard to remember every map if you take break from em for long time. I don't even remember shield part locations for that many maps in older games lmao.

They honestly need to have an Easter egg mode and a zombies mode because bo2 was just zombies no Easter eggs and maps like die rise and buried and tranzit were really fun to keep on playing

They just need to drop zombie chronicles two with call of the dead, die rise, Buried, original mob of the dead and an upgraded updated transit. I’d be happy with just die rise, buried, and an updated transit tbh.

Played a few games with no knowledge of the Easter egg. I will say that I was enjoying the quests that were easy to follow and figure out without a guide. It felt like an rpg. I just really liked it and I can’t wait to finish the Easter egg soon

I think the community will start to regrow itself in a way from here on out, but it would take a miracle for the zombies community to ever reach the BO3 level of hype with its dlc season and chronicles. Hopefully Treyarch can prove me wrong.

Ancient Evil is a disaster,what happened to the good old days when everything was simple??No Gobblegums,no Class setup...Just a ass kicking squad and a few perks and Pack a Punched Guns??(RIP Bo1 and 2)

Hey Milo, I think it's really important that you keep giving extremely detailed review almost opinion like this. Great vid. Id like to share some thoughts, I personally find it important to focus on the good things no matter how little otherwise I will get discouraged and drift from the mode. I started my zombies journey in bo1 and have played 2 and 3 religiously, had a rough start in bo4 but I've been loving it so far. Everyone has been let down by the pitiful amount of marketing and with it a little of the excitement and thrill of "omg new game more fun times" but at it's core bo4 zombies is still a fantastic upgrade from bo3. It's easy to tell that the amount of effort being put in by the team is immense. A few examples of this are; first time entering certian rooms in that game a well engineered 20-15 second music clip will play to discern a type of mood this room should give, everytime the player takes damage a splatter of blood will spill onto whatever weapon is being held, honestly the movement system feels smooth but not simple unlike bo3's slide which was unfair and easy and the graphics themselves are gorgeous. I could go on but you get the gist, i think you might've said this before but Bo4 does the little things better than any other previous title. This is getting long so I'll try to wrap up, the Chaos story really didn't interest me until Ancient Evil which is a double edged sword because it won't be back for another game. I can't wait for more Aether story but I think we can all agree it's time for it to end. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm glad you're able to elegantly be the bad guy of the zombies community, the realistic one, the Richtofen almost :) (I really didn't have a point when I started typing but I hope you see this. Also I really love your videos and your enthusiasm for the game from one enthusiastic zombie slayer to another)

I played bo3 zombies with my friends yesterday and it was so much fun I just want the original crew back in bo4

It's not a 'studio and mode' problem either. It's a community problem. Ancient Evil is part of the proof Treyarch are doing an incredible job, at least now. The sooner the community is more positive, the sooner it will pick itself back up. RU-vidrs included..

Honestly I haven't lost interest in zombies, but all my friends have. I remember playing BO2 on the ps3 all night with friends. I don't have that anymore. None of my friends want to buy bo4 because of the ton of hate on it. I tried hard to persuade them with blood of the dead but nothing worked. This is the 1st game that I haven't bought the dlcs for because I feared I won't play much without others. Now I've been thinking about reinstalling bo4 and getting the pass from the positivity from this map. Hopefully this brings me back.

I think the big fuck up they did is taking out the original perk system and that can’t be fix no more until BO5 or their next game comes out. It’s a very good map but they still need to add leaderboards, and I would like to see more calling cards like one for completing the main EE would be very nice to have others know you completed it already. Everyone likes competition.
