I had a similar situation when I was buying my house. I already had a realtor, who was an Arab-American guy, and he showed my wife and I a few houses, but we hadn't found anything yet. Then I went on one of the housing websites, and I saw another realtor who was a Black guy, and I was thinking, "Hey, why not give the Brother the commission on the house sale." I regretted it the moment that Black dude called me back. Because he acted like I would be wasting his time to show me the house, he was skeptical on if I had the money to buy, despite the fact that my loan was ALREADY PRE APPROVED. I just told him forget it, and went right back to my Arab American realtor. I felt like a complete ass too.

I had a similar experience, I was in a Michael Kors store and soon as I walked in a nice Asian man ask me do I need help. He showed me different things and I picked one of the bags he showed me, he was so courteous and kind. I was still shopping for a little while, then I walked up to pay for the bag he helped me pick out. The cashier said who helped you, then she pointed to a black man who she had seen me with just before I walked up to the counter. The guy she was pointing to, just ask me did I need any help and I replied no. I could have said yes to the cashier and gave him a commission on my $250 bag, but I didn’t. Since the guy that helped me was not in our sight, I described him to her and she knew who I was talking about. It would have been wrong of me to give the black guy the commission when he didn’t even help me with anything, but the Asian guy did. So YOU WAS RIGHT KAREN! Do not let ANYONE tell you different. 😊

😂😂😂this is the best. It's too funny yet true. On a serious note, I believe that one of the reasons we as a people have been able to survive is our ability to do the right / moral thing.We don't want others to judge us by our race so we shouldn't judge others by their race.

Okay, but we live on Earth. We are judged by our colors. I think we all just want fairness regardless of color. Ms. Karen was ATTEMPTING to be fair to the Black woman because she knows the historical and current plight of Black ppl, but in doing so, she was unfair to the white woman. That does not make her racist. The fact that she even had to THINK about leveling the economic playing field tells you so much about the SYSTEM of racism she was trying to navigate. Calling HERSELF potentially racist is proof of how much race has ahold of our minds, even though we are at the receiving end. It is like a victim of domestic violence feeling guilty about slapping someone after they just got punched. This racism thing perpetrated against our people freaked up our psyches. Racism is a problem initiated by white racism. It is sad that she even has to feel this type of guilt for something so simple, but so big at the same time.

@@KarenHunterShow Trump's housing lawsuit was about him not renting to low income people of all races not just blacks because low income people have a reputation for being terrible renters. Black liberals like you racialized that incident just like you racialized Trump's Central Park 5 statements when Trump never mentioned the race of the Central Park 5. Lastly there's no proof Trump said he didn't want blacks handling his money. So instead of fake racist claims about Trump, I challenge you to do a show speaking on the confirmed racist history of former segregationist Jim Crow Joe Biden who was mentored by multiple KKK members like Robert Byrd and said he didn't want his kids in a "racial jungle" and called black youth "super predators". But I know you won't speak on Biden's racist history because you want to keep blacks on the Democrat plantation.

I've loved listening to your show for awhile now Karen, and as someone who is not black or white I've been called slurs by people of many different races so I'd say that everyone can be racist on a personal level. I have had two hate crimes happen to me in life due to my ethnicity, one by a white MAGA guy and the other by a black man. I've heard the "black people can't be racist because it's about prejudice plus power" arguement. Maybe there is truth to that on the systematic level, but I'd say on an interpersonal level, yes, everyone can be racist. Though I will say, white supremacy is the biggest threat to POC in this country right now, so defeating white supremacists is priority.

Karen, that was an inspiring decision to make. And you had the courage to acknowledge and do what you felt was right. I understand the other point of view, for sure, but you had the power to deny the commission of the woman who had done the work already. There's a term for denying payment for work... slavery. Racism, sexism, prejudice and bias are all evil weaknesses that feed off themselves. We all have to work diligently to deny them entry into our lives and the lives of those around us, even when it feels like a losing battle. The world is what we make of it. Being a woman in a male-dominated technical field, i have to work twice as hard for half the recognition given to my male counterparts. It's infuriating to be seen as less because I'm a woman. I enjoyed the candid conversation in this video. Thank you all for opening my eyes to a world that, while different, is familiar.

“I like the description black person can be racist, but black people cannot.” A black person with power can in fact exert anti black racism. Clarence Thomas being the example, because he’s upholding that white supremacy structure. I think Lamont was probably stating black people cannot be racist to white people, we can be prejudice.
@marv-nt9166
@marv-nt9166 2 месяца назад
To answer the question, Black people can be racist, but in most instances, it's not racism when it involves Black people. For it to be racist there has to be a belief that one's race is superior to another, and there is the belief that the superior race has the right TO DOMINATE the lesser race. The second and most important part is the maintaining of social, economic, and political power of the DOMINANT group in that society. Can Clarence Thomas, Tim Scott, or Candace Owens be racist? Yes, because they function as proxies to the dominant White Society. So when Latasha Harlins was murdered by a Korean shop owner, the owner was racist by serving the larger White society and MAINTAINING White Supremacy. The reason why most instances are not racist when they involve Black people is because those non-Black people would never be in a situation where Black people are the dominant group. Dr. Hunter was displaying favorable PREJUDICE toward that Black associate because she was not dominating the White associate or had a belief that her Black race should dominate the white associate. Also what dominant society was Dr. Hunter's actions maintaining or supporting? It would be considered racist if she were working at BET and overlooked the White employee for a promotion and gave it to an unqualified Black person.

The system would couch it in terms of reverse racism to alleviate the need to look at the overall systems that prepuate racism. Perhaps if there was not an underlying system of racism in employment you would not have considered giving the black person the commission. It is complicated especially when we have a history of non melinated people denying being racist while giving a preference to their own

Thats part of our problem. Why do we have to feel as if we have to always be the moral compass for the nation. This is learned behavior from master. Were a sick people. Its not our job to stop it.

I think Karen did the right thing based off of the situation she put herself in, because she already accepted the help from the white sales person. In the future be intentional when shopping. Shop black owned and when you are not shopping black owned go to black sales person so they get the commission. Karen you shouldn’t have had the white lady help you without first searching for a black sales person.

I think in her conscience she knew that protocol is that commission goes to the person who helps you which is why she felt bad. That being said if she really wants to go out of her way to help another "sista or brother" then she should seek them out first to avoid going against her conscience.

check it...since you don't listen to the show and obviously DO NOT know the whole story. That lady was the ONLY one there when I arrived. the sisters came later. So...they weren't there to "seek out."

@@KarenHunterShow I did listen to the entire episode but likely wrote my thoughts during. My bad. It's good you have a conscience and want to do the right thing. I personally think it could perpetuate the very cycle that white people are called out for as being racist...and no I don't think you were being racist but rather conscious the sister could benefit from your purchase. I also guess it goes with the saying treat others the way you want to be treated

Ms. Karen, You WERE NOT RACIST. Yes, I believe Black people with SYSTEMIC power can be racist. In this case, u was wrong…but not racist. Here is why: 1) you had power, but not systemic, changeable power 2) your power was not in a vacuum. Ur power had many factors at play as a Black woman in America with historical context. 3)you were a patron, not the owner. If you OWNED the store, that would be more of a societal microcosm at play. Then you would be racist. 5) you were trying to recirculate the Black dollar, not trying to disenfranchise the white woman…which would be racist Bonus: When a mouse gets an upper hand on the cat, that does not make him anti-cat. It makes him pro-survival. Don’t feel bad. Just do better next time. Yes, you was messed up, but racist? No.

In black majority countries they can. In America and other nations where they are in the minority, black people can only be prejudice. Although often used interchangeably, racism and prejudice have a stark difference as racism pretains to the societal apparatus built around prejudice. If a group has none or limited influence in society, they cannot construct an apparatus around their own prejudice. Therefore, they can not be racist in the technical sense. Any group can harbor feelings of prejudice against other groups, though.

Treat people the way you want to be treated, regardless of race. I'm mixed and don't know anyone who is racist, unless I am to consider some of my cousins, who are black... just leave your paper bags out of it. lol
