My first rule for breeding is only breed what you like. If you like it, other people will like it also. I do cornsnakes and black rat snakes. The trick with cornsnakes is getting on breeders wait lists to get the best animals, and pay attention to the hets. If you have 2 compatible hets that you don't know about, you can't make that money from them. Also keep all records you can. People love to buy from people who can show they are taking good care of their animals

If the market is saturated with ball pythons, we need to do better at attracting more people into owning and loving these amazing creatures. 😊😊 Also, being aware of how the best of us fall prey to novelty seeking with the craziest morph combos and taking time to appreciate the classic morph and validating the ball python owners who are just luvin’ their classic. All BPs deserve a beautiful life ❤🐍❤ Keep up the great work spreading the good word!

I think the more logical solution is just to breed literally anything else lol. Have you considered line breeding angolan pythons? They can be gorgeous when bred well. I mean its actually a rarer species, with demand, and its literally ball pythons closest living relative. I dont understand why it HAS to be ball pythona. You cant even give the normals away for free because the market is so flooded. No one will even want to pay the shipping cost because they are worth nothing.

I was going to breed emerald swifts in a year or two, but I just recently lost my male so that project may either take longer to start up or not happen at all. You don’t really hear much about the species and they have live births so you don’t have to worry about incubation and all that which saves a bit of money in that area so it can be used for other things like extra females, bigger enclosures and high quality feeders. I’m super bummed about losing Raldie (nickname for my male who’s full name was Emerald; I know, not really original but my kids named him and his gf Jade as well) but hoping I might still be able to do something with the project in the future.

Yes. Lots and lots of paper towel. This year is my first year breeding. I didn't think I'd get much out of it. Both cornsnakes were first time breeders, so wasn't expecting a high fertility rate. BOY WAS I WRONG!! Out of 22 eggs, I only got 1 slug. And the other 21 eggs hatched into healthy babies. So now I have to house, feed and clean 21 babies on top of my 18 other snakes. And some of those babies are being tough to establish. Stock up on LOTS AND LOTS of pinkies, and have alternatives on stand-by. I finally had to assist feed adult mouse tails I chopped off of frozen mice from my freezer to get something in their system. So, yeah. Fun. 😅 On the plus side, I volunteer every month at my local show. And there are very few, if any corn snakes. So there's a niche I can fill. And I've had vendors come up to me wanting to buy the mom of the clutch every time I bring her with me to the show. So word has spread that babies from her, which are all powerhouse multi-hets, and already have a few people lined up to buy babies from me as soon as they're well established. Now we'll see if the mom double-clutches or not. And I put the male in with another female. So we'll see if those go or not. As far as balls go, we'll see what happens. I was all in for the long game of producing my own visual axanthic pied. I found a very beautiful expression axanthic. Since she was a single gene, I figured I'd find a pied that was het axanthic, keep a female or 2 to breed back to the male, and get an axanthic pied. Then I ended up finding a visual axanthic pied from a breeder I had been following that produces quality animals, and couldn't say no. A year later my boyfriend who has been in the game got me a nice male. A leopard lemonblast 100% dbl het axanthic pied. So now I just have to raise him up to breed to the axanthic pied and some great combos should come from them if they produce viable eggs. Aside from those 2, I want to eventually breed bullsnakes, and also create a captive bred population of Madagascar Golden Hognoses. A local exotics pet store had a long term captive male, and after a year I gave in. The next Tinley expo I found a female. So we'll see if we can't help slow the importation of Golden (or blonde) hognoses from Madagascar. Not expecting to get rich on any of it. I just love reptiles and want to breed what I like, and fill niches in my area.

We made the following decisions in choosing breeding products: What do we like? What do we already have? What is there demand for but not a lot of supply? What can we afford? How long do we want to wait until we start producing saleable reptiles? We expect to make money eventually and to make a reasonable profit, but do not expect to become rich. Agree on the social media. We do Instagram and RU-vid (coming up on 4 years - it is very hard to break into the big time like you have). We are also planning educational outreach programs. MOST IMPORTANT! Whatever the money making project is, you should have fun doing it!

I've been seriously thinking about starting a small breeding project but I'm still waffling on what species. I would love to do spotted pythons (get my granite gal a het boyfriend) but I feel like there would be way to little demand. Also thinking about house snakes but I'd have to get myself better acquainted with them and their care, although they seem fairly similar to spotteds. Oh and also cresties, but their genetics are so unpredictable it intimidates me a little.
@Bobbyholmesclubstep
@Bobbyholmesclubstep Год назад
The demand for spotted pythons is def growing. Market was saturated for a long time but they're harder to find at shows now and the costs have gone way up. Not gonna make you rich but I think a trio of spotted pythons (especially if you already have a granite) would definitely pay for themselves and then some. Its also needed in the hobby- Antaresia are awesome and super underrated. If you do it, try to find some with orange eyes... the retic vibe they put off is insane and would probably make them that much more marketable.

I'm currently in the middle of growing up a couple Cornsnakes to breed, I'm doing as it's been a life long dream and I decided to take the leap. I originally (a year ago) had a Anery Pinstripe and a Toffee Granite Tessera as they were sold. Turns out both were missold so this season I brought a female Snow Tessera as I'm hoping the Anery Stripe will is het amel based on the shops reported lineage. So hopefully should get some Amels Anerys and snows and some with Tessera which will make a awesome clutch and if I make anything from it would be a dream come true to pursue it make it a proper thing but only time will tell. I wanted to do Ball pythons but as my female is Spider I wouldn't feel comfortable breeding that gene on so decided to do corns, if it works out I would like to diversify it a little with kings or Rats maybe Hoggies and see were it goes

Totally agree on all points! Also be sure to get a small business administration consultation/services for a business plan that includes modern marketing (i.e. social media). If a SBA consultant doesn't recommend or downplays marketing (yes, that includes social media), WALK AWAY (ok, maybe run, because that mindset lost all credibility a decade ago.) This can be a FREE service for you, depending on your locality - USE IT! Treat the venture like a BUSINESS and NOT a hobby; if you need business education (and 99% of people do, ESPECIALLY in bookkeeping), GET IT. SBA is a critically important skill set, and is transferable far beyond your reptile breeding business.

I know you own hella other 🐸s from your videos but figured I'd ask ya, cause I always appreciate your content and I think it woulda be hella cool of you if ya did one! 😄

When it comes to balls/royals, there's also the ethical aspect of how much you think it's fine to be line breeding your animals. I know that reptiles in general tolerate inbreeding better than mammals, but the longer you line breed the same relatively small breeding stock, the more issues you're going to run into down the line.

You know I honestly had the same reaction to my skink going poop. It sounded like a little screech and I was afraid he was stuck or something. Nope. . .just pooping.

For me personally I went 3k in and by the end of my first season I'm even (the few hundred extra I count for there food and stuff) this coming season I can't wait, I have a male and female red base full pinstripe Harleys, black and white Harleys, and brindle super dals all amazing genetics and but I too got lucky the female I got is going for big $$ but my buddy gave her to me for 400 pluse a enclosure 4x2x2, and the male I ran into someone who had one but really wanted to breed snakes so we traded, sorry for the rambling I just thought I'd say what happened for what I started

Well. I've seen some cheaper het pie bald ball pythons on morph market. Breed het pie with het pie and you get a chance of a pie bald with the gene actually showing. So around 250 worth of snakes can get you like 300 or 400

@@WickensWickedReptiles my Mom and Dad used to make the mailman joke about me. My Mom and Dad both have brown hair but I had platinum blonde until 14 or so then it changed to "strawberry" blonde. My uncle, that was the mailman at the time, has blonde hair.
