As a youngster I worked at my now in-laws greenhouses. If you made an enclosure with the glass at a 30 - 45 degree angle on top with a small fan at one end and a exhaust vent at the other, I believe you would dry and heat treat your wood faster. You would be amazed at how hot it would get in there.
I have some ideas on perhaps building something since I have a few more windows that size...and yeah I can about imagine how hot it would get...that sun can get things cooking!
ANOTHER GREAT SHOW, DAN ONE THING THAT MIGHT ALSO HELP IS BLACK PLASTIC SHEET UNDER THE TABLE GRATE TO INCREASE THE TEMP FROM GLASS, OR SOME OLD TARP, METAL SHEETING ETC. CHEAP AND YOU PROBABLY ALREADY HAVE SOME LAYING AROUND. THE MORE HEAT WILL INCREASE THE CONVECTION ALSO. LOVE WHAT YOU DO, STAY SAFE, BE COOL AND STAY COOL!
Hi Dan, another great video! I am looking forward to the results of your experiment. Would you consider putting another batch of minifirewood out in the open in the sun as a control group and measure the differences between the two piles? Keep up the great work!
The ventilated grate is Great!. Idea: build a wedge shaped box, Use the grate, inside. Put a vent at one end, and a fan blowing through the box, at the other end. You could use a solar panel and a 12v fan, won't take much air flow. The box will heat up, drive moisture out of the wood, and the fan will blow the moisture out of the box. Mini Wood Solar Kiln! (MWSK).
Hey Dan, if you have acquired any of those little power packs, you can put one of those out there with a small fan blowing air through there on low speed just to keep air moving
If you have a full-length mirror, set it up behind and above the wood pile such that it reflects additional sunlight onto the wood. As the wood dries, collect it off the top of the pile as needed.
Finally a straight handle axe. To me, they last longer and feel natural in the swing. You’re doing great and I do grab some tips and ideas from your shows.
As the mini firewood sales continue to grow. I believe you have a lot of streamlining of the process inorder to make it easier and profitable. For starters...Never dumping mini wood this low ever again. It should all be done at waist height or above. The being bent over and crawling around at ground level chasing these little pieces would get old real quick. The last time they should ever be this low in log form,IMO...👍
Yeah gonna continue to refine the process, but I have someone who is smaller that can easily pick that all up for me. 😀 Or I will actually probably rake it into the big utility bucket.
Hi Dan. You could also put the boxes is cherry in the back of a parked suv in the sun with the windows cracked. That car would probably get up to 140 degrees and dry it out really quick. As and added bonus the car would smell like cherry. Just an idea. Also no dumping of the boxes. Take care
You do get some airflow by convection this way. but a small or medium sized ventilator on a solar generator would really increase airflow and reduce the drying time.
hi there Amanda would not mind if you put it in your home cloths dryer. problem solved . ready in 1 hour , and heat treated in one ,or just put it in your attic , looks good best to all john
Just discovered your channel going to guess having that much wood I take it you sell it in the Local area where u live or u keep ur house warm at in the winter months. But anyways looking forward to watch sum of ur old videos 😊
Another way to speed up the drying, just fall the trees and wait a few weeks until the leaves have sucked a lot of moisture out of the wood before it is limbed and cut and split.
Qqq how has that roofing type building held up for you over The winter, i lived 20 miles south of cleveland ohio,i talked to them they would not give me any kind of warenty because of The weather, i figured your winters are harder than ours so i thought i wouldé just ask someone who has one
I like your idea, but since everything has to be "green" these days, that would make the hippie mad as you are using electricity and "adding" to your "carbon footprint"😮 There, I think I touched on all the Hippie talking points 😂😂
Nope, he split a bunch of that stuff....I just don't show it cuz then I have to deal with people telling me he's gonna get hurt, and that I'm breaking child labor laws, and also RU-vid gets goofy when kids are in your videos...lol
It's just like regular firewood...only smaller, like mini in size. 😆🤣😆 I try to have like 1-1.5" splits that are around 5" long, but sometimes the length varies so I have on my labels 4"-6" long splits.
