@@NuzlockeJoe Considering they've killed more animals than they've saved? Usually by taking away pets from loving homes? Yeah, don't blame you, lol. However, other "Peta" runs could be fun, though I know for a fact some regions are gonna suck since Gift pokemon are really rare in them, lol. Like B/W have like 5? And two of those are post game? it will be a challenge for sure, and you might have to relax rules, but I think you can do it. Though thankfully, Harambe's loss didn't signal the end times like it did in real life, lol
Losing the first Rival battle has Rival's Eevee evolves into Vaporeon regardless if you win or skip the optional Rival battle. Winning the first Rival battle has Rival's Eevee evolves into Flareon unless you also win the optional Rival battle then Rival's Eevee evolves into Jolteon.
@NuzlockeJoe Crystal thankfully has the daycare Egg plus can breed the gift Eevee for multiple Eeveelutions and get the stones early enough from pokegear contacts Also the Dratini with Extreme Speed at the 8th Johto Gym.
Fun fact: the "gotta catch 'em all" motto is something made up by the USAians. It has never been a thing in the original Japanese franchise. Of course the idea of completing the Dex was important, but not franchise-motto-level of important.
@@thefierybrib bro what it’s the United States of America just say Americans that’s what we are. no one would be thinking Canada had you said Americans stop using some stupid ass logic
Im checking this channel every day, hoping that part 2 is up. I really liked this take on the giftlocke, felt sort of like an anime with a story. Cant wait for the next one!
I'm glad you liked it! I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but I havent even begun to play part 2 yet, so it will honestly be a few months. I do have plenty of other videos you can check out int he meantime though!
>not expecting Nidoqueen to try and thunder a Venusaur Ah, the mistake you make. Gen 1 AI chooses its moves after you every time. It decided to use thunder because you had switched to Lapras.
Oh, that makes a lot of sense! I thought it only applied to items, but it makes sense about the changing Pokémon. Guess I should have done a bit more research before attempting a nuzlocke of gen 1.
There is discussion wether Hitmonlee/Hitmonchan and Lapras share an encounter, but I think there is enough difference between Saffron City and Silph Co. to justify getting both. What is undeniable is that Omanyte/Kabuto and Aerodactyl share the encounter and you should only get one. It doesn't change the run much since you didn't use them too much tho
I see you're playing playing with the "Slow Start" clause here. Were it me, I would've restarted upon losing to the very first rival battle. But that's just me.
Great Challenge, I have beaten FireRed without catching Pokemon, but it wasn't a nuzlocke. However, Yellow, if you get past Brock which should require an insane amount of grinding, then with all three starters, Magikarp, Evee, Lapras, the Hitmons, and Rocket Game corner Pokemon sounds very doable.
That is the friendly and incredible nuzlocker Joe! Thank you, Joe! That was very good! I wish more and more success!😊btw I missed you! I know it's a complex job the editing of the videos though...
@@NuzlockeJoe I didn't even remember, but I do now. You released a different challenge if I recall well. I guess it was... I gotta check out. Well, I confess I don't really watch every single challenge, Joe, I mean, because some Pokemon games don't actually entertain me so much or maybe sometimes I know very little about the game and I'm able to understand very little as the guy narrates, as I am Brazilian English can be difficult sometimes to understand you know. I'm not a native English speaker, so it is harder for me sometimes. when I say that I refer to any Pokemon RU-vidr. Usually I do watch gens 1, 2, 3 and 4 challenges. But thanks anyway for all your challenges!
I don’t have to watch the video to know this will be a clean sweep if you can get past Brock. You get so many heavy hitters in Yellow for pretty much free. lol Eve Bulbasaur Squirtle Charmander Garaydos
If you were Peta, youd have to release all your pokemon or even let them die on purpose. At least you murdered a bunch of wild pokemon. Thats realistic.
damn i did this challenge when i got my pokemon yellow and gameboy color as a little kid, dont know how i got past Brock but i did and after that a older friend of my taught me how to catch other pokemon haha
I like the rule of matching the number of pokémon that a gym leader has. I don't think that was in the original hardcore nuzlocke rules but it makes for a good addition and naturally a much harder challenge. I think Lv 12 Pikachu is technically possible due to 1/256, but maybe you cannot deal enough damage at that level and would Struggle to death even with perfect crits. It wouldn't be fun to play. My opinion is that skipping Game Corner with the Poké Doll glitch is cheating. The speedrunning community is wrong. I agree with Jrose11 there, but I had that opinion before I knew of his. FRLG makes knowing your encounters easier, but I think that the Fighting Dojo Hitmonlee and the Silph Co. Lapras both count as a Safferon City encounter. But hey, your run, your rules. The video had good narration as usual. My favorite line was about Persian getting a crit bite "because that stupid cat is fast." The "Yellow Special Pikachu Edition" graphic in the top right is cute. I wasn't a fan of the Peta gimmick, but that's just because I don't like them. I know you don't either, but even has a joke, I found it, unpleasant. I did know all of the trivia sections, but that's only because I've played this gen way too much. I find it very cool that you included the trivia for those people who don't know these games. I liked the Safari Zone and Surfing Pikachu bits. Anyway, this was a cool idea for a video and I enjoyed it enough to offer some (hopefully) constructive criticism. It made me wonder what a minimum battles nuzlocke would look like. (Including skipping all possible wild battles. Catching is battling too.) Interestingly enough in this gen, that would mean you do fight the Marowak as a wild battle, if you don't allow the Poké Doll glitch.
I will typically use the same number of pokemon as gym leaders most of the time now. For the brock fight: the only moves geodude knows are tackle and rock throw. Tackle can do around 15% and rock throw 30% to pikachu. A crit quick attack from pikachu does at most 16%. So assuming perfect crits, he could defeat geodude, maybe with one of his moves missing, but then the onix would be impossible I feel. For the Game corner skip, I can see how some might feel that as cheating, but I barely play gen 1 anymore so I wanted to go for it. In reality, it didn't really save much time anyway. For the miminum battles, I did do something kind of like that in ORAS some time ago, where I could only use each pokemon a single time. Meaning if I used them in a battle, they would be counted as "dead". As you might imagnine, I couldn't do that as a nuzlocke, so I eventually had to relax the one pokemon per route rule. But I still thought it was a good run. Thanks for all your comments here, I really appreciate it! Now I'm curious, did you play gen 1 a lot growing up or is it more recent?
@@NuzlockeJoe Both actually. My first ever video game was Red at the age of 6. I chose Bulbasaur because the manual said it was the best. Reset at Brock when I had Leech Seed (not realizing how good it was) and went with Squirtle. Played around with Missingno. after beating the game and I restarted my game after beating it to do the Mew glitch. (Then got traded a Lv 100 from my neighbor before I caught my own so I thought I was special for having 2 Mew's.) Now I know enough to get as many of any pokémon. I got away from Pokémon after middle school with Emerald as my last game because I didn't want to bug my mom for a DS. Came back to playing gen 1 around 2018 with watching Jrose11, PChal and learning about Arbitrary Code Execution (ACE) glitch item 8F. That last one made me start playing again. There's a lot of complex documentation on it and I was able to use it to finally join Team Rocket like I wanted to do when that Nugget Bridge rocket asked me when I was 6 and steal everyone's pokémon. That took me 3 months to learn how to get everything set up in the game and although it was already well documented I still typed up a 20+ page guide for myself and shopping lists for the items I needed to do the glitch. I had to return to the Poké Center after every battle to keep the code working and I fought everyone in the game on that run. (I now know a method where that is not required, so I could probably do it again in 1 month or less.) I stole all E4's pokémon by beating them 6 times and did the same to Prof. Oak, who I always have as the final battle when I play gen 1 now. I've now beaten RBY multiple times and my first ever nuzlocke was a hardcore of Green. I can't read Japanese so I used my memory of learnsets and animations. Only had a death to accidentally fighting the Route 6 Butterfree. More recently I got into the Pokered disassembly project on github, adding new pokémon, updating trainer rosters, and you can even add new moves and types and update the battle mechanics. I built myself a vs, Lv 100 ROM with no other changes as well as a few other ROMs to add other pokémon.
I'm really sorry I was always led to believe that EVs were not even a real thing until gen 3 my apologies also the bulbasaur joins when pikachus happiness is at a certain level there is a bug to this in which if they are on full hp you can keep giving potions to raise happiness it will say it didn't work but registers you using items on pika hope this helps anyone 😊
4:00 lol it's absolutely NOT "literally impossibile"... It's merely very unlikely. You can find at bare minimum one example here on RU-vid. I ran some Monte Carlo simulations to figure out the best strategy in terms of Growls and Tails Whips etc, and it turns out it has a success rate of few percents, but far away from zero. Dear Arceus, if I find annoying when people use "literally" not literally.
Perhaps it is not impossible, but I doubt it's even a 1% chance that it happens. If you have an example of it happening here on YT by all means let me know, but considering that pikachu does at most a whopping 8% to geodude with quick attack while he can do almost a third with rock throw, yeah I'm gonna say its basically not gonna happen. And thats not even looking at onix, who pikachu does at most like 5% damage too.
It’s only in play once you get pokeballs so that first fight is irrelevant to the challenge… thankfully because especially in earlier generations it can be tough for new trainers haha.
