@@meanyomama no for sure, I’ve been playing since the start of smash 4 and I think that transitioning to box would be brutal. I mean the transition from 3DS to GC was hard enough for me, I can’t imagine what it would be like going from GC to Box. My friend claimed it wasn’t that bad but I think he’s just a freak lol
PLEASE switch to it or a smashbox WASD variation. It makes hard inputs completely free and more of a rhythm game than a hand and thumb contorting spasm.
Smashbox is way easier to pick up too from my experience. 4 finger row buttons were too hard to learn for me and it's a small change but huge difference in learning curve. Pro tip is to learn to move in cardinal directions then learn to shffl nair and low float nair, then gradually adding more buttons onto the board.
I honestly think that you really should consider box for your hand and wrist health. At the very least, test it out at a few locals once you get everything memorized from practicing your combos and Peach tech in training mode. Not only is it going to be easier on your hands, but it's probably also going to be more optimal for gameplay. At the end of the day, though, I'm just a viewer who can make suggestions. Even if you don't go with Box, please just watch out for your health. Smash may be your passion, but you won't be able to play much if you get carpal tunnel
I feel like seeing a top player play with a Smashbox for the first time looks a lot like if they were trying to convince you that level 10 CPUs got added to the game, and then every now and again threw in some of their signature stuff just to mess with your head. That said, referring to that "signature stuff" I think it's really cool to see some of the stuff you were able to translate so quickly, and I'm definitely rooting for you in terms of picking this up!
ive got a theory about CPUs because its what i use to practice (yes it sucks, yes i suck, but i hate online and if i'm not enjoying what i'm doing ill improve even less), but i think it learns on how you play the game. cause like when i started to learn how to dash dance after like 20 games the CPUs started to dash dance on me, and the CPUs will try to z-drop combo (it will fail but it is trying) but it is ONLY with the characters i play that have z-drop combos, like i play Link and when the CPU gets the bomb it'll attempt z-drop combos BUT the Peach and ROB CPUs don't ever try to do z-drop combos to me with turnips/gyro. Also i tried to learn Rosalina at one point and prior to that the Rosa CPU was just easy 3 stock whatever but now it's a little bit harder after i tried playing her, and the opposite with Greninja and Puff, Greninja and Puff are 2 of my worst characters and they are also the 2 easiest CPUs to me. It's just weird and i don't think it's just coincidence. BUT THATS JUST A THEORY...
IMO Peach on boxx would be especially challenging even once you get the muscle memory down, because her stuff is so analog. Like you need a bunch of slight drift angles or whatever. Kazuya on boxx tho oml that character would get banned.
If your not already, get a good quality, high-bioavailability form of Magnesium (Mag Glycinate is my go-to for this). Also a liquid Turmeric (powders/caps have hella poor absorption) will help a ton. As a Daisy main with prior C.T.R. surgery on my L hand a few years ago (and my right one on the way out next 🥴), I swear these 2 supps have been gamechangers for me. Wish I'da tried em out sooner. No affiliation, but I'll drop some links in a comment :) both are fairly priced on Amazon and way worth the investment (Costco sometimes has sales on the Turmeric but it's actually cheaper on Amazon as of this comment date). Best of health to u, King Mute! 🙏🏽
That aint no smash box! But in seriousness I tested one of those and the modifiers and button places were awful compared to THE smash box. I've used smash box for over 2 years. It wasn't remappable when I tried it though, is it remappable now? Until the other companies copy or beat their modifiers unfortunately they all will suck. The company even gave me a prototype for feedback before full release. They took none of my advice and released it as it was lol. May have newer better versions now though but would be surprised if it's better than the customizability of the smash box. It might be slightly more comfortable though.
Love to see you experimenting with Box, as someone who made the transition recently, it’s a really good controller. With your hand issues and playing Peach (arguably the character who uses Box the best), I’m sure you’ll see insane success if you keep at it for a month or two
Oh, and a little tip for microspacing, I’ve found holding a direction and up is the easiest way to do things like walking and turning around, it’s way more comfortable and intuitive than using a walk modifier imo
Honestly Mute, Im surprised you waited this long to get something more ergonomic. I know your hand issues are a problem and with the absurd execution of top lvl peach playing on a box seems like the best choice. I hope you can stick with it and show off your skills again in the future.
Good luck with box, also i think a hilarious video be box online with random characters so you can fight low elo goons to practice movement and fundies
It's not really an animation. It's just a mask of Peach doing up air slowed down with something like twixtor to simulate slow motion. It's still slick though.
