Welllll tbh I can relate a lot because the same thing happened to OW and Brig. Brig broke the game... viewership dropped and people left and the community was frustrated for a year and a half while Blizzard figured out what to do about goats. It was a painful experience and someone who loves the game so I guess I can relate.

I think a lot of people wanted her banned, but most if not all of the events never ban Bayo, the community didn’t really have a say in anything.

There were a lot of people who wanted her banned at the time, but there were also a lot of people defending the character so she never got banned. Some of the main arguments against banning included: - You can SDI out of her combos (she can still kill you if she reads your SDI and at the very least you still take a lot of damage) - Statistically speaking, she didn't have super high representation or enough placements to warrant a ban (At local/regional levels, there were other characters with similar if not better usage rates. Wasn't super dominant at top level for a long time, and by the time she started to become noticably dominant it was already too late) - Brawl Meta Knight didn't get banned, and he was much more OP (he was going to get banned, but the only reason that didn't happen was because all the top players who played Meta Knight threatened to boycott tournaments that banned him) Nowadays the consensus is that she should have been banned (even most of her then-defenders agree), but at the time it was a very contentious topic. It is really interesting to see though, since there are a lot of parallels with Smash 4 Bayo and the current trajectory of Steve in Smash Ultimate. Hopefully history doesn't repeat itself

I play bayonetta in smash ultimate (my first real smash game) and my friends still complain because I know how to combo with her, like yes I can rack up damage but that damage is nothing without reliable kills

The game may have been aimed at a demographic but no developer can tell how the demographic will behave over time. They tailor to people not deplorable behaviour. it is out of the game's and developers hands in most cases. Example the SJWs in the Overwatch community. they are addicted to lgbtq to the point they bully others. Thus some communities are more toxic than others. i prefer the smash community over the Overcrotch community.

Again I say: games that weren't designed to be played competitively, shouldn't be played competitively. Want a competitive fighting game? Tekken, Street Fighter, Soul Calibur, DoA. Smash has been, is, and will always be, a party fighting game. Not a competitive. Otherwise what is the point of having items, moving maps, and final smashes? They aren't tournament legal, and they're core functions to the game.

That’s the thing though. They treated the grand final like it was just a friendly match, gave up a stock and stalled as a joke. They were doing it to piss off the community, and sure maybe that was warranted, but they shouldn’t expect any respect whatsoever after that.

Same. I went to a big local event and while I had a lot of fun playing the actual matches (like for real, i got excited every time me or my opponents made a cool play), and playing on stage was one of the highlights of my life, I simply couldn't be around all the people there. Everybody that went acted like a kid, even the adults. It was weird and I felt out of place and too mature

Yeah the community can be pretty bad. Some just take too seriously and thats coming from me, a competitive player

The reason is not that it’s the best, it’s that it was completely unbalanced. Tourneys are supposed to test skill, and Bayo made it so you died before you could even freaking act at all.

Dagoberto Bobadilla Jr it is a sad truth. I played game bayonetta loving her character and everything about her. She was someone I wanted to play so much. And still play her game to this day. And seeing this breaks my heart seeing people bullied over using a character THEY VOTED TO BE IN THE GAME

mohammed jafer there’s a different between made up fighters and crossover characters. Made up characters are usually the game developer’s own idea about their own ip characters so it’s usually balanced after many tests. While, crossover characters are usually intended to be from their original source depends on how their own game functions work. Like Bayonetta, she usually can jump high and does sick combos in her own game.

Salem is very good. He was definitely the best solo bayo. He's also doing very well in ultimate. Not as well as he was doing in sm4sh. Which does show that bayo did help him into the top 10. But to say that he is "carried" is too far

@@perplexity8260 I actually barely touched Bayo in Sm4sh because: 1) I played mostly on 3DS, which I didnt want to risk breaking the control stick over playing one character. 2) She didnt seem very appealing at all. 3) Sm4sh is a very defensive game, which I mostly preferred playing characters like Palutena, Zelda, and Marth. That isnt to say Bayo was fair. It's clear that they changed her combos in Ultimate to the point where the slightest DI will affect them. The problem is that Bayo doesnt have anything else to compensate for. She only has combos. When you remove a combo character's ability to combo well, they're not going to excel.

Because there was counterplay. Bayonetta was strong sure but She did have a few unfavourable matchups being Cloud,Diddy and Rosalina as an example. If the whole game was just Pick Bayonetta or you lose then there would’ve been a major ban towards the character. Like Hero in Ultimate he wasn’t banned because he was mid tier at best.
