Conclusion: Most characters have games specifically designed to make them appear strong. Peppino's game is specifically designed to make him appear mortal.
6:41 "he's not afraid of standing next to a literal nuke" i think that's because he's too busy being afraid in general. that man is so close to the verge of breaking 24/7 that paradoxically there's barely anything that can push him over the edge. the only thing that has ever managed to do it was a boss rush
Honestly, the Wario games are proof enough of that. Wario is straight up invincible in most of them. and when he gets hit, he just gets New abilities from them. Poison him? he gets Drunk. Stung by bees? He Uses the allergic reaction to Fly. Squashed by several tons? He can fit through small gaps and glide. Sick the undead on him? He just becomes an angry zombie or vampire. Freeze him? His frozen body will crush any obstacle in his way. Set him on fire? You have an angry flaming man trying to burn you alive with his own flaming body. If you replace Mario with Wario in most of the games, Wario will beat the game much faster than Mario, though sheer brute force.
@@candlestone5397 I say it like this using Peppino as our frame of reference because most people just kinda lump Wario beneath Characters like Mario and Bowser due to them sharing a universe. Even though Wario throwing hands with demonic, world-ending Figures in nearly every Wario land should have been proof enough Wario is over qualified for a Mario Adventure.
The reason Peppino fits so well in other platformers is for a pretty good reason. He has a variety of things that platforming characters from other games have. Peppino has speed so it makes it pretty good for getting through levels plus the fact it damages things via just running into them. He has wall climbing which makes certain levels a cakewalk since levels like marble zone from the first sonic game can just be beat by climbing. He has a super jump which allows him to zoom up to the height border of the game so games like ice climbers can be beaten rather easily. Peppino also has a decent move set for when he has to battle so if he is put into a boss rush, it could be cleared easily. take Ristar, that game has a ton of interesting boss stuff and Peppino could work really well with his parrying, grab dashing, super jumping, etc. All in all, Peppino is just a well made character that could be put in almost any 2d platformer and come out on top.
Judging by the life counter icon, the reason why the body slam shoots you up is because you're playing as wario with the character moveset mod on as an explanation, character moveset makes wario's ground pound fall faster, and it does that by multiplying your vertical speed to bypass the usual -75 cap, however multiply a positive number and well...
@@ExperementedYeah Pretty Much, Plus If Everything That Happens In Pizza Tower Is Really Canon To Things That Happen To Peppino, Then That Means He Can Only Be Killed By A Nuke Or A Giant Robot MADE For Fighting, And Even Then He’s Just Launched Out Of An Area, He Actually IS Immortal
@@Gumwad21 by that logic, Mario is also immortal, He gets kicked out of stages when he gets beaten as well. Just because the game doesn't have a Lives system doesn't mean the characters are immortal.
The only thing that would make this mod better is Peppino getting enraged at the final Bowser fight and begin mercilessly comboing him with Unexpectancy playing in the background.
i like to think that in this mod, Peppino was hired by Mario to do his job for him, which is why he doesn't look so enraged or angry at all because this is a walk in the park for him, plus his pizzeria isn't in danger. my favorite quote on Peppino's true power level is "Peppino's power and abilities depend on whether his pizzeria is in danger or not."
Dear every single SM64 speedrunner, Skooch included, PLEASE make a Peppino %! I would love to see how fast this game can be completed when the route is streamlined! I feel it would be really cool!
10:17 I was actually thinking the other day "I wonder if a 3D Pizza Tower game would be good..." and this mod is living proof that a 3D Pizza Tower that works and feels good mechanically is 100% possible to make. PTG, if you're seeing this, I would love for you to take note.
Fun fact: Peppino actually runs at Mach 4,which means 4 times the speed of sound. Very impressive, I know. He still doesn't beat Sonic tho, cuz he runs at Mach 10
modern sonic probably does run at mach 10, however Classic Sonic, at least in mania special stages, has a top speed of Mach 3 which means Peppino can actually run faster than Classic Sonic
Peppino Spaghetti joins Madeline Celeste as one of the indie game platformer protagonists who has such an insane moveset that they become cracked if given a challenge any less than their own game.
@@randomocto9842 He's Snick! Snick the Porcupine! He's a definitely original character not the least bit based on or inspired by any particularly speedy hedgehogs! In all seriousness, he was put into Pizza Tower so it would technically count as a Sonic fan game for a convention, if I recall correctly.
10:17 -- "I would pay for a 3D Pizza Tower sequel if Peppino controlled exactly like this." I would pay for a 3D Sonic game if Sonic controlled exactly like this.
Honestly though? This Super Mario 64 ROM hack is genuinely impressive; I never would've thought that Peppino's moveset could translate so well into 3D! Major props to the developers of the hack!
I went into this without much expectations and wowie-zowie was I blown away by how awesome that mod was! And huge props to Skooch for doing so well at beating it!
Peppino has the speeds of Sonic, some mechanics that I think are inspired by Mario games, and a healthy dose of ✨*Anxiety.*✨ Anyways, since we’ve already put him in a Mario game, I’d like to see how he’d be in a Sonic game. I mean I’m sure it’s already been done, since I think that’s what Pizza tower is based off of. (Hell, there’s even a parody Sonic in the actual game)
Peppino is such a madlad because Pizza Tower is based on the Wario Land series. Probably related to why Wario's lives counter is shown in this mod instead of Mario's.
It’d be cool if you did a collaboration with a top Mario 64 speed runner to see how fast they could do it with pepino with you commenting while they play
I was hoping for one of those “someone decompiled every file to do with Peppino into one folder and putting it into this 2D Mario rom, you can play Mario as Peppino” like that one time someone put LEGO Batman into LEGO Indiana Jones that one time. But this is sick af too
It's ironic to me that Pizza Tower was inspired by Wario, and here you have him in a Mario game. It's too bad that (as far as I know) you can't import the base model for Wario from the DS version, but this is still cool.
Just wait until Skooch starts looking into SM64 speedrun tech and how he can apply it to Peppino's moveset. I think there's two or three stars he got in the first 5 minutes that have various RTA-viable exploits for Mario to get them quickly.
Makes me happy to see people still talking about pizza tower. Damn that game was a treat. If not for BG3 and Lords of the Fallen, this game would be an honest game of the year for me. I never got into wario, but the game still made me very nostalgic for the older sonic games
It's actually not that surprising how amazingly good this feels. The two biggest issues with 3d platformers are controlling your camera and controlling your character. For all the smoke people throw at the N64 controller, they DID realize that you would need a dedicated pad/stick to control your camera. So Super Mario 64 comes with that solution. And then Peppino's controls allow for momentum canceling and strong aerial and directional control, even if you make a mistake, which makes his kit extremely forgiving. Peppino feels good because he's basically the logical conclusion of fusing Sonic and Mario's skillsets together. 3d Peppino feels good because it has the whole package. This is proof that the 3d platformer genre still has a future.
10:08 it will never not impress me how people translating stuff from one game to another while remaining faithful, happens to do something that *just works.* Like F-Zero 99 uses the stats from the snes game, and introduces some mechanics from later titles, *somehow* despite it being faithful to the snes game everything balances out.
