Welcome to Pokemon Invasive Species, a Gen 3 centered series where we'll be doing tons of runs through Pokemon Fire Red and Pokemon Ruby!
The concept is simple: we run Pokemon in regions in which they aren't normally found. Pokemon - Invasive Species Edition!
Because there are two regions in Gen 3, we're running Hoenn mons in Kanto and Kanto mons in Hoenn! But that's not all...
In addition to this simple swapping of regional Pokemon, there are a couple of additional stipulations to differentiate this series from the standard solo runs we do here on this channel. Any Pokemon I run in Invasive Species has the following:
- Max IVs
- One egg move
- I choose the Hidden Power; think of it like Natural Gift from Gen 4, just without the berry and it’s not one-time use
- I choose the Pokemon’s Nature
In order to make this possible, I use PKHeX to manipulate the save file. Now, I say Max IVs but for the most part they’re mostly maxed; see, a Pokemon with Perfect IVs, according to PKHeX, will have a 70 Base Power Dark-type Hidden Power. We change the Hidden Power and give an egg move to compliment the Max IVs, as we’re optimizing each Pokemon. I figured to add in the egg move to have a little bit of fun and to add to the Invasive Species theme.
Now if you’re unfamiliar, invasive species is a term in the real world; it pertains to an animal or plant in a region of the world that doesn’t belong in their new environment. For this Generation 3 themed series, we’re running Hoenn mons in Pokemon Fire Red while Kanto mons run through Hoenn. But which version of Hoenn? Well... I decided on Ruby.
Why Ruby over Emerald? Because Emerald is a much longer game than Fire Red; Ruby & Fire Red are roughly the same length and more importantly, Emerald’s version of the Psychic Gym would straight up ruin a Kanto Pokemon’s run due to it being an effective 4v1. Yeah, in Ruby they still have two Pokemon but that’s a heckuva lot more manageable.
Besides that, standard solo rules apply. We only use one mon, HM mons are fine because we need them to make progress and I personally allow a Pickup mon to help out with getting items that can be useful for runs. In our Fire Red runs we'll need a Meowth to Pickup TM10 anyway since that's the only way to obtain Hidden Power in Fire Red/Leaf Green.
One last note on egg moves. Some mons have great egg moves to choose from and some, well, don’t.

I enjoyed this run Razador! Never really seen anyone use Plusle in a solo challenge before so, this was really enjoyable and interesting to watch.

Keep up the good work! Just a recommendation: please dont spoil the plot before moves, takes away the drama 😅 Anyway loving your series!
