The way I relate to these pitiful little beans as a disabled person is insane. Your tangent about wanting to be heard and that being too much to ask hit me too close to home to be honest. These videos are really great in their scripting.... despite the things on screen being worms on strings with their heads cut off.

i genuinely love how this is sorta... half challenge run, half poetry compilation. it's a really neat way of doing things!

This wasn't just a pitiful worm, this was a miserable creature

It’s almost poetic that in cell stage the creatures thrived by killing themselves.

I made a comment about the ass-biting slugs, and now we have tremendous sausages that make an easy meal for those who have no care for song. The bounty of betrayal is easy, but those with the will to listen may be rewarded beyond their imagination.

So fishing in the tribal stage is... odd. There are designated fishing spots. There's no visual indicator they exist in the actual overworld, you can only see them as an icon in the minimap. They look kind like a very simplified fish. And more fishing spots do spawn as the game progresses. For me the first ones that spawn are usually pretty far away, and I don't notice ones near my tribe until I've completed like two or three of the other tribes.

The commentary is so good, interesting and sometimes philosophical! You kinda sound like the guy from 'getting over it'

This is literally the story of the Grox, born as useless slugs without mandibles for defence, limbs for movement or senses to take pleasure in, struggling to survive amongst creatures that could run and jump and dance and sing while they were just slimy slugs that they didn’t want to dance near. They won the race, they rose above it all and gained the ability to terraform entire other worlds to their liking, and yet… they were back where they started, in a vast, putrid ocean. . . And so they travelled to the centre, hoping to finally find an answer, something that would finally tell them what it all meant, in the heart of that putrid ocean, the source of the primordial chemical soup, and what they found instead… was Steve… Steve, who gave them the Staff of Life, the ability to instantly terraform exactly 42 planets, populating them with lifeforms that had mandibles with which to defend themselves, limbs with which to walk through the green marshes on sunny days, senses in which to experience pleasure, the ability to run and jump and dance and sing in a way they… could not…. *_And so they decided SCREW THEM! To hell with these foul creatures with bodily advantages that they took for granted, abilities to experience joy in ways they never even took even a sliver of a moment to appreciate! ‘Why should we help them?’ Thought the Grox, what have they EVER done for us? And so they blockaded the centre of the galaxy, ensuring no creature that they viewed unworthy and undeserving of their biological advantages could ever hope to reach it, they modified their own bodies with cybernetics to give themselves the closest thing they could ever hope to have to senses and movement, but still never came remotely close to what the blessings of Mother Nature could provide, blessings they had been deemed unworthy of, they roamed the Galaxy in five star empire ships and tormented other species, exterminating tribal villages with interplanetary space lasers. They had access to the most advanced technology in the known universe, and while it could never alleviate them of their sensual misery it could be used to make every other creature in this meaningless ocean as miserable as they were! Let them cry, let them cower in fear, let them all suffer the same horrific histories as they did. That is the story told here. That is what Spuddy created here, that, is the story of the Grox. . ._*

I was half-watching this video but every time the script started to focus less on plain commentary it grabbed my attention

This is genuinely very well written. There are pieces of media that are meant to be deep with less in the way of an act structure, theme, moral and motifs than this video. 10/10, one of the best videos on RU-vid

I truly think these are my favorite types of videos in this world. There is of course substance to challenge videos with general commentary, but waxing poetic over a game that is held together by the desperation of coders is truly something else. I idly listen to videos more than I actually watch them and its always a treat when I get beautiful things like this in my recommended.

would be interesting to see a "completely average" run of spore, perfectly (or as perfectly as possible) in the middle of carnivore and herbivore

The narration of these videos is really excellent. Your style of storytelling adds drama to an otherwise goofy but mundane gaming challenge. I would have clicked the video either way, and I would have enjoyed it either way, but this aspect is what I’ll remember it for.

ah yes the chicken survival strategy - unable to run or hide from predators - unable to fight back against the predators - barely able to obtain food - BUT compensates for all of this by just popping out babies faster than any predator can eat them irl this strategy works because during bamboo seeding season chicken population explodes so massively that at least some are ought to make it to the next bamboo season and repeat the cycle

These sorts of playthroughs make me realize. Herbivore is far easier than carnivore because there's fruit pretty much everywhere and fighting isn't as big of a necessity

This video and the previous spore video reminded me of some of ambiguous amphibian's older challenge videos that he's recently moved a bit away from that to faster paced videos. it filled a niche of existential gaming videos that i had really missed, Immediately subscribed!

13:54 I think I know why you are having issues with befriending tribes. You see, the trick is to NOT mash the buttons as soon as you can. There is a passive approval tick that happens the longer you do not play the next instrument. Just don’t obey the prompt until a second and a half passes and you can consistently make all the tribes happy. I haven’t played spore for a long time, but even now I still remember my struggle with the tribe stage…
