Nastya is 42yo, she retired in 2007 (16 years ago). This affair should have been massacre of the innocents! Still she looked quite competitive and you had to solve a few problems to overpower her. And her great sense of humor... Good for Nastya!

@mybraintunic

@@benparsons4979Yes, she did retire at 26. Not a very standard case, but it happens. For example, Martina Hingis (5 times single Grand Slam champion) retired at 27.

Nastya Myskina was one of the reasons I followed women's tennis back then. Her groundstrokes were laser-like and her anticipation was second only to Hingis. There's no player who plays with her elegance and grace at the moment in the women's game aside from maybe Rybakina. I miss her very much.

Sometimes people think that this or that foreign player doesn’t have a personality when, in fact, it’s often the fact that English is not their first language and they are not fluent enough to show their humour / personality. Rublev is viral for his humour but even with him i sometimes see how he translates his jokes from Russian and it would 100% be funnier in his language, also the delivery is different in different languages. I’ve seen this with Czech girls whose jokes often remain lost in translation lol

I loved watching her in the early 2000s. I saw her play a world team tennis match in 2002 in Springfield, Missouri, she wasn’t a slam champion yet but she was becoming a top player at the time. Anyways I remember after the match going to get her autograph and there wasn’t even hardly a line to get it because John McEnroe was also there so I got to speak to her for a second. Nothing much I think I just told her she played really well and congrats and she said thank you but I remember her being really friendly and kind and smiling and stuff and it seemed very genuine. Still these so lovely eyes, Nastya ! I was rooting for her at the french, no matter how deep the got in the draw, for years. We (french) got to know her a bit better, thanks to on court /studio interviewes. She had such a charming mix of being shy, yet with a good sense of humour and these beautiful somewhat mischievous eyes... wasn't hard to root for her 🙂 ! Nice to see she is ageing so gracefully. what this kinda reinforced to me was that one has to have a really gritty, unflappable, self-assured, and airtight personality to get anywhere within the WTA. even with the obvious power-difference at hand, she didn't lose one step of self-assurance; it was like she owned just being there. i can imagine any number of other people just really intimidated by the situation, but not an instant of that, at least visibly. brava to her, respect!

@@andrewmiller3055 never. There are levels to this. While the women game is at level 5, the men game is at level 15. The power + speed difference has gotten even bigger today than 15 years or so ago when Serena and Venus tried to beat Carsten Braasch and could not even win a single game against him while he was smoking inbetween. Dude was like ATP rank 400 at the time. As a pro player who has to return 200 kmh serves from guys, you are so overpowered when you then have to deal with first serves from women that are not even on the level of second serves from male players. It is seriously like you are just messing around while the woman gives it her all. It is not even funny because you know you will easily win this. I played tennis for a long time and of course you sometimes also play some rounds vs female friends and train with them, but never was there any doubt that the only way we would play with any kind of fun was when I would hold back in my ground strokes and serves, otherwise it would not have made much sense...

Seems like you went easy on her. At 100% it would have been an annihilation, and yes I understand she's older and no longer competitive. Even Serena Williams has admitted she would get thrashed by any male pro, it's just a different game. Nothing wrong with that it's just the way it is. If I had to name my favourite tennis player I'd probably say Monica Seles, so I'm not against woman at all, there's just a significant diffence between mens and womens tennis at the highest level.

She gave you a pretty tough time all things considered, and she is clearly nowhere near the level she was at when she won the French Open in 2004. I'm looking back at the highlights from then and her groundstrokes and serve were way faster, so if you weren't playing a retired version of her I think she probably would have beat you.

Back in the day (1980), I was playing varsity High school tennis. I was a bit of a freak in that I hardly practiced but had a natural ability to serve and my serves reached nearly 120mph. Unfortunately, the rest of my game wasn’t at that level and my natural laziness prevented me from reaching my potential. Something I regret. Anyway, I was at a group lesson at Tam Tennis Club in north IL burbs and a younger girl was training with her coach on a nearby court. I noticed her coach exchange some words with the pro who was coaching our group. That pro, Bob Marimba(sp?), signaled for me to come over. When I did he told the younger girl , “ if you return this kids serve, then you can return just about any serve you’ll face in competition.” Needless to say she quickly started returning everything I had. It was like hitting against a wall. I don’t think I won a volley. That younger girl was Andrea Yeager. That’s My brush with greatness!

Though you make a big deal about her former abilities and success on tour, you also downplay your own ability before the play to make it seem like a victory by you would be a "major upset." In reality, your tennis is advanced enough and polished enough to not only stay with her, but to take it to her, using superior power and consistency. That was no upset. She was overpowered. What would've been more competitive, would've been a handicap set, where she has the alleys, and you get only one serve.

This guy had to work his butt off to go 10-7 against a female fossil. She's been retired for, what, 15 years or something? When he said she was No. 2 for a reason, he's not kidding. Still his forehands were just a little too heavy for her.

Do you think she could have won 15 years back when she was in her peak

Grish, I'm not the only one who think you can make it. She said the same, and I believe Russians are honest and don't bullshit each other like Americans do.

You tore your bicep? Is this before or after your UTR matches? I was looking forward to your renewed training commitment but a torn bicep is pretty serious.

That's the same thing happend in the match of Billie Jean king and nobody said anything about it but the man was 55 year old . That means she beat a literal dead man

Swiatek no2 would give Andy Murray no.40 a run for his money. I’ve just finished watching the former world No.1 lose in last 16 of Basel, he was terrible. He must really love Tennis to be playing 20 plus tournaments a year where he’s just a journeyman. Borg 25 quit when basically he was no2 in the world at the end of 1981.

I love Nastya. The way she hit the ball in the early 2000s was absolutely majestic.

Good video mate. This is the 2nd video of yours ive watched. The 1st one was were you pretended to play tennis for the first time and really enjoyed it. I gotta be honest i thought you were going to pretend to lose to her, and i would of stopped watching you if you did 😂
