Good start to the new cabin/sauna. I really like how you give a shoutout to the people who comment with tips and suggestions. It shows you are connected to your audience and you listen. Stay dry.
Thank you very much you don't know how much this helps me and other people out sometimes I feel like I'm there with you good job good progress on the new cabin love watching you cook
Hey Shawn. Yes, it is Wednesday the 15th & it was nice to see another video on the progress of the sauna. I can hardly imagine how nice it's going to be to sink into that sauna with a nice fire going & just relax. I see Cali is still with you & it's good to see you have a wonderful companion to watch over you as you work. It is coming along wonderfully. I can hardly wait to see it finished. Thank you for continuing to share your journey with us.
I really respect your efforts and your views on what is really important in life. I look forward to watching each video you post. I love your dog and how much attention you give her. Shows how kind you are and how good a man you are. I too am a hunter and here is wishing you success with the hunt. Terry
A general comment about your channel - Shawn and Family - thank you so much for all your hard work and sharing through your videos - they are informative, stress relieving and inspirational. Your approach to video is unusual and artistic: ambient sounds, occasional and thoughtful comments, tasteful and appropriate music, great editing, etc. Your walks and scenic views with Cali are especially relaxing - thanks again for giving us all a glimpse of heaven on earth ❤️ Kudos and keep ‘em coming!
My body aches just watching you Shawn!!! I've a few years on you ( headed toward 62 ) and when I watch your vids I think " yeah..there was a time ...but those times where I would build all day by myself up in the Catskill Mtns of New York on my property are gone. I can still do...but I can't do like I used to do :-) " You'll need a hot tub one day! Long soaks after a good days work are good for the body and soul.
Michael S I had 3 acres in a town called Kerhonkson. About 100 miles from NYC in the lower Catskills that backed up onto the entire Catskills Preserve. Trout stream running through it ! It was heaven! Wife, kids, life ...work ... I sold it. I miss it’ It fed my soul. I watch Shawns videos and ache to get back into the woods...nature and the quiet but not so quiet of the trees whispering in the wind and the forest sounds. There are lots of Catskill places for sale but I have been away too long to make any suggestions
Very few truly understand the beauty of getting the balance between form and function as an ascetic. A rare gift. Rapidly becoming an old timer. Most complimentary thing I could say. For those who cannot fulfill a dream like this, ( regardless of positive focus or motivation ) it can't be understated the importance of what you allow people to see and share this kind of life.
My day always gets better when I see you’ve uploaded a new video. Thanks for sharing with us and taking the time to document, switch the camera angles, and edit each video. I appreciate your work. Both the craftsmanship and videography.
The speed at which you are able to build up these sauna walls is a sure indication that you have a pack of precision notch gnawing Beavers working for you. Amazing work, Shawn.
One of the things I really admire about these episodes of your show, which I've been enjoying for over a year now, is your astonishing talent for editing - vision and sound. I am constantly amazed. No champion film director could reproduce this authentically because they would not be able to capture the nuance and the pace and, above all, the reality of it. You do that, time after time. It's genius. I suppose at the heart of their art is make-believe. At the heart of yours is something tangible. Your work is something that, to me at least - another trapped little cog in a giant machine, grinding away - represents an open-ended, self-writing, substantial representation of freedom and independence no movie could ever hope to capture in its conceit. I look forward to these instalments and sub-plots more now than some of my favourite TV shows. It's replaced quite a few of those, actually. This is just so much more nourishing. I'm trying to put this into words and gushing and failing instead, no doubt. I think what I really mean is, thank-you so much and keep it up while you're fit enough!
I love the calm in your voice with the delivery of what's on your mind. I don't know which is more enjoyable listening to you talk or the building of the sauna. Anyway, Thank you for both. Carolyn Sanner
Wow Shawn, you are really spoiling us with these frequent uploads! I gain a lot of insight and enjoyment from seeing your progress, and dreaming of the day I can become slightly more self-reliant. Thank you.
I get worried just thinking about when he has completed everything. We'll have to talk him into making a 50' high watch tower when he thinks he's done - LOL
Everytime I watch your videos it's like Lincoln logs for adults! I love those play sets as kids now you get to do it as an adult, can't wait till see it completely done your very inspiring shawn
Sometimes I begin watching your videos and I have no idea what you are doing. Instead of being frustrated, I just sit back with my cup of coffee (which is mandatory while watching your videos) and watch things unfold! It’s fun to see what and how you are doing things.🤗
Great video just love watching the way you build log cabins keep them coming and thank you for your last videos about male stress I am 1 of many ex service men who suffer from PDSD and watching and hearing about your life helps me cope with my problems a bit better so thank you again and keep up this fantastic build 👍👍👍👍
So delighted to see another post from you and Calli. These videos are so much more interesting and uplifting that I rarely even watch the news anymore. Any topic you share is welcome whether working out of doors, cooking, sharing of your plans or explanation of the how and why of your lifestyle there is a welcome breath of fresh air. I doubt that you could post too often. Thanks for sharing with us.
Beautiful work on those logs. People dont understand how difficult it can be working with natural logs, every log is different. Looking forward to seeing the finished project.
It’s coming together!!! Wow! Your wife has to be so proud of you! It looked like a beautiful day! I hope you can get a lot done before the snow again! Take care!❤️❤️❤️
Looks like real-life Lincoln Logs... my favorite as a child. I find I'm addicted to watching you build things even though I will never attempt it. I'm just fascinated at the process.
I am retired and there is always 2.3k likes when I sigh in. Because of the time difference, I do not see the posts until about 7 or 8 am PST. Great job Shawn keep them coming. I do enjoy watching you build your sauna.
I've been away from Canada (also from Ontario) for over 10 years now. These videos make me so homesick. They're amazing and I'm addicted. But still homesick.
Great video as usual. Your skills are well honed and you have a special trained eye for straightness and level. Surely a requirement for building. Having a calm voice, unlimited patience and the best side kick ever, makes me watch your videos over and over. Thank you.
Daylight savings is like cutting the bottom 1/4 of a blanket off and sewing to the top thinking you now have a longer blanket. I have mainly lived in Saskatchewan where we don't change our clocks and I love it.
Hey Dennis it is actually an old native Canadian native saying. Yet I am so glad that we don't change time here. We still go to work at 8:00 am and leave at 5:00 pm. Since Edison invented the light bulb it is no longer a necessity to avoid the naturalness of darkness.
Looks like you are off to a great start, and a start is as good as a finish so they say. As usual outstanding photography and editing, Thanks for sharing.
Hi Shawn, Greetings from Brazil! I love your videos. It's one of the most anticipated moments of the week. Although I live in a warm place, my dream is, in the future, to be able to have a place like yours, a cabin made by me in some mountain here. While this time is not come, I entertain myself with what you've been doing. Keep the good work!
Good Morning Shawn - Really enjoy seeing the walls moving up. Always check for your video, before starting my day. They motivate me to do something. Have a great day.
Another moment of "Happy Nature Therapy" before going to bed... Watching your videos full screen on my monitor, headphones on. Gives me the feeling of being right there. AWESOME!!! Hope you're getting more work done before snow returns. And if not?? Don't worry, take your time and always remember: there's no one putting you under pressure but you!! TAKE CARE!!
Shawn great video as always. This is like your favorite TV show, its over already. Great work and thanks for taking us on this journey. Give Cali a great big hug for me.
Shawn I’ve never made a negative comment before and this is not one I absolutely love this channel. Early on you provided thanks to someone who aided you with a technique with setting up the logs. I don’t know what the Canadian laws are or the requests of the person in question, but taking the time to reveal his identity for all public use and thanks would have been a gift. I may be out of line and apologize if so. But I would never give credit and recognition publicly to someone and not.....well give them public credit and recognition. God bless you, I am A faithful follower.
I'm glad you are making more quick little comments in your videos lately. They go a long way for understanding what you are doing at any particular moment. =)
Shawn, I cannot tell you how comforting your videos are. My dad was a carpenter and passed in 1999.... your gentle patient methodical ways and the sounds of your working are quite soothing to me. I find myself falling asleep to your videos... not that they are boring, but that they are soothing to my soul... thank you so much.. They are also instructive and encouraging in that I find myself doing projects around this 150 yr old house that are way above my pay grade and expertise.... thank you so much.
Hi Shawn, Upon my advice, my stressed and upset sister is looking at your videos, and on the episode 7 i think, you look so sad that she was afraid that you had troubles and she message me to ask what was happening to you. I soothed her fear by telling that you was speaking about people you share sad part of their life with you, you compasionnate with them and it was the reason why you look so sad. She was relieved ! It makes me smile that she is so keen of you, even if she doesn't understand a word of what you say :-) (so i suggested her to use the automatic translation and its work pretty well, allowing to have an idea of what you are speaking about :-) cheers from France !
Another great video! I always look forward to watching your new vids. You and I have a very similar train of thought. So I always like hearing your self reflections as well. Keep it up my friend.
Love all of the uploads. I almost watch no TV at night now as I am finding the three you tubers I watch to have far more interesting content and of course you are one of the three. Thank you for sharing
The videos are certainly addicting. As you appreciate our feed back Shawn, we love getting a response/recognition for your responses as well! Looking forward to Friday at the cabin.
I have Cable, Netflix, Amazon etc. I come home after working and pass those up and go straight to your videos. Not sure I can give you any greater of a compliment. Thanks Shawn.
You come across on video as being very genuine and that is appreciated. Always enjoy your videos and learn so many things. Keep up the good work. We look forward to what's next. Take care.
Another video uploaded so fast is awesome. You HAVE to be the hardest working millionaire I've ever seen, Shawn. The fact you choose to live self reliant when you clearly don't need to makes it even more meaningful to me. You chose to do positive things that I know people appreciate.
Really enjoy your down to earth approach to your projects. It is enjoyable for me to watch. I have been working at becoming debt free. Although I'll never really be off grid. I enjoy seeing those who are.
STILL WATCHING AND ENJOYING YOUR GOOD VIDEOS FRIEND......"I'm here in Tulsa, Ok, but have been to Western Canada many times........."HEAVEN ON EARTH"...THANKS, TERRY
Hi Shawn! Hurray another wonderful video from your gorgeous home in The Canada wilds. Your videos are excellent and bring me much peace! Respect from Texas!🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻😎😎
Coming right along! I cant wait to see what the whole thing looks like when your done. It's a pleasure watching you go through all the steps, very methodical. Also been loving the cooking "shows" you have been doing. No reason not to eat awesome food just because you live off grid!
