CAN I DO IT? 7x Scottish tourist attractions in one day based on 1960s souvenir cards

Planes, Trains, Everything.

I bought a pack of playing cards from the 1960s. Each card has a different photo of a Scottish tourist attraction. My challenge was to visit the seven attractions in the Lothians/Fife regions in one day, using only public transport, and try and replicate the photo on each card - 60 years after the originals were taken.

You know you need to do all of the cards. It doesn’t matter how long it takes, or one card per video. Brilliant idea.

You and Steve would have fun doing more of these challenges together. I think you should both start at the central station and pick a card each ( removing the one you have done Scott) Challenge 1.who reaches the card destination the quickest 2. The cheapest 3. The less changes per route 4. Then get back to where you started

Scott, it's my opinion that your 1960s picture card challenge is a great, crazy idea! Please do more 1960s picture challenges. As you indicated in hindsight, the time you spent exploring the castle kept you from making the connections needed to reach and photograph the Tay Bridge. Bottom line, I really enjoyed the video! 👍

Loved the challenge! You did so well to get Edinburgh Castle, the war memorial statue and the Scott Memorial and then back to Waverley in 40 minutes! I visited Edinburgh in July for the first time and I know that is a real hike. (I live in flat Florida so Edinburgh was a challenge for me but I loved it.)

Hi Scott. Great video. My dad was born at Halfland Barns, opposite Tantallon Castle and grew up in Dunbar. I remember visiting family in North Berwick and Dunbar back in the 1970’s and playing on the castles. My great uncle Tom used to man the old entrance booth at Tantallon, back in the day ( basically an old garden shed) and would let us in for free.

Scott, you're a real trouper! A great idea too, but you don't half cut things fine! You're a brave man tackling Edinburgh tourist sights, even after the Festival has finished. Loved seeing North Berwick Law in the background of your shots too. My daughter and son-in-law climbed up it the other weekend, and the views from the top are spectacular. If you make a return visit to Tantallon, try to fit in the climb. You're obviously fit enough! Thanks for taking us on your trip - it was fun.

Definitely do more. But choose wisely. These 7 were very ambitious for one day! - East Lothian to North Fife in one day, only if you start at one end :) The old nave inside Dunfermline Abbey is amazingly atmospheric. Hope u went inside! Sooo much history. Back ~1990, my partner and I were learning about Edinburgh Southside history and would cycle by tandem, or take the mini, to photograph new versions of scenes in the book. Probably easier today w editing etc :)

Fun fact: the Forth Bridge isn't even the first bridge over the Forth. That would be the initial auld brig over the River Forth in Stirling. That's the bridge which was the scene of The Battle of Stirling Brig.

Even team up with Steve Marsh again. Onya mate!

Scott, a great idea to promote different parts of Scotland and see if they have changed. I’d love to see another one and good idea for people to see how they can get around Scotland by public transport. That castle look amazingly well preserved and a good day trip. Yea, avoid Edinburgh in August, complete no go!

Loved the video. Definitely not a fail. I would love to see more like this, perhaps you could challenge Steve one day to do 5 or 6 cards each. Back in the 1970s I had a trip to Bass Rock and landed on it. The rules must have been different then, but it was an official RSPB trip. It’s covered in Gannets, but the white colour of the rock is not just the Gannets, but their output! You need a clothes peg for your nose and good boots ! The Northern Gannet has the scientific name Sula bassana because of its close association with the Bass Rock.

Great video! I've done a similar thing but concentrating on my town and without the deadline. When you stand in exactly the same spot as a photographer did 100 years ago or more it is quite a thrill and very interesting too. Your trip across the Forth Bridge was just like mine was a couple of years ago when I went to the Highlands. The weather was beautiful that day and I loved the view from the train.

Superb video Scott. Six out of seven is way better than most people could manage in that challenge and to be honest as a gentleman of similar age I'm confident in saying that unfortunately the majority the younger generations today are simply not up to such challenges ! The proof to that is the fact you decided to "Yomp" rather than opt for the easy option of calling an "UBER". More power to your elbow Sir. Looking forward to the next video. 👌👍👍.

this format is Ideal for another VS challenge with Steve Marsh or some other RU-vidr. Take a couple days and handpick some of the deck. Shuffle it and then half it. Give half to steve keep half for yourself. See who can recreate/ Visit more of the cards in the timelimit as possible. Add bonus challenges along the way for extra fun. Would be curious to see how well you both plan on your feet figuring out how to best knock off a few cards quickly + cpuld open up some interesting scenarios for utilising our always "excellent" public transport routes. Could also come up with additional rules etc to make sure you both get to rest etc but I would definitely like to see this if its at all a possibility!
