Looks like a top piece of kit guys, thanks so much for making us aware. I don't have an Ami but love the tech and gadgets and I agree that if I did have a car without such a gadget it would be on my upgrade list. Take care guys.
Some people are natural TV presenters...we have one here. I like how there's no bloated intro and how you get right into it (to paraphrase the Big Yin). PS I was watching a video in which you kept saying "I could crush a fig"...the comedian you forgot was Stu Francis from the 80s version of Crackerjack who used to say things I like "Ooh, I could crush a grape" along with others like "I could jump off a doll's house".
Excellent explanation. I did something like this to my 2013 smart fortwo and it really transformed it. The car feels right up to date now, despite being 10 yrs old!
Hi Tim from Spain. At almost 82, I no longer drive so I navigate for She Who Must Be Obeyed plus I take on the backseat driver role. I must admit I am a map reading navigator and always have been. We tried one of those things that tells one where to turn etc, but after it got us lost a couple of times, I stick to maps - it is less embarassing than having the Guradia Civil coming to find you because you have lost traction on a tiny steep uphill road that has very deep loose gravel for a surface.
You could 3d print a bracket to fit orange thing to have it there - so you could still use fans possibly? Also with map you should be able to download maps on your phone so when you lose gps it will still work
It does amaze me though that they are so adamant on clamping down on mobile phone use in cars yet new cars have a effectively a massive phone on the dash. Seems counterintuitive to safety. But a great video and review Tim and it does look a good bit of kit to be fair!
That is a cool upgrade and nice and easy to install. If I had a Citroen Ami, I would get that. I guess there is the theft possibility but, so many cars have a central screen like that and I have never had someone try to rip mine out of the tesla. It would take some special knowledge of the Ami to know that it is aftermarket.
Hello 👋 I've got a new c3 aircross a the multi media screen isn't has good has yours. Android auto needs a USB ladle but you can make and receive calls using Bluetooth. And you get the first free years citroen navigation for free. The Dab radio is good though and you can mirror your phone using USB cable.
I have this portable CarPlay I got it from Amazon, I drive a older Ford Fiesta it has Bluetooth but not a touchscreen and Apple CarPlay. I also have the reverse camera it’s brilliant it connects to your reverse light wire so it only pops up when you go into reverse gear. I don’t like Siri I do prefer Alexa, but it works in the car for getting it to play Spotify and read messages
That looks like a 'must have' Ami accessory. (Although something to unclip and put in a backpack when you leave the car - the same as you would do with any device that is easily stealable)
That was a really great review, I have been considering getting a classic car but know I would miss the tech on my modern car, I think would be a great option - all I need now is an air con option and I can go back to the 1960s 🙂Thanks again for this one.
Very nice device.. I never really thought about anything like that ... but it looks brilliant ... if I can find somewhere for it to go 🤔... Very nicely explained, Tim. Thanks, guys ... take care as always 🙏
Thanks Tim, I like the shirt and would prefer if "Me And Mon Ami" were a bit more prominent and I could get it on a cap as well. The Carpuride W103 features are pretty robust and the form factor pretty optimal. Does it have an internal battery? I looked but did not see it mentioned. For Ami Owners, perhaps a high capacity rechargeable USB power brick with a USB-A to USB-C might be be an option. As far as your fans and mounting, Might you be able to mount the fans behind the Carpuride, or print a drop-in for them or the Carpuride to drop it in the Android Speaker hole and area behind the Driver's instrument cluster or somewhere else like the phone holder area? Perhaps if you had a drop-in mount with some weight in the bit that would drop in the AMI's BT speaker hole, you could stash it out of sight when parked.
@@MeandMonAmi I noticed Tim, at 4:15 you were using what looked like a USB-A to 12V Cigarette Lighter adapter cable, and I was thinking a USB-A to USB-C, or USB-C to USB-C cable such is used for charging mobile phones and and tablets, and a power brick might be worth a try rather than the 5v to cigrette lighter plug as shown. Also, some fast charging, Phones, Tablets and laptops use a USB-C power adapter that uses both 5V and 12V for the fast charging, and your Carpuride cigrette lighter power cable might be 5v and 12v, or possibly 12V only.
@@MeandMonAmi Really? I did find a completely different brand that works directly on USB - and I'd think the ones that are powered by a cigarette lighter need 12V and not the 5V from USB? Enlighten us!
Yeah ! Some UK truckies have been using a cheap Chinese knock-off for £35 and map upgrades for free, mfor the last 12 years. I got one to supplement a hand held Garmin I had been mis-using for road navigation.😅. Its 7 inch, resistive screen and I imagine relatively low resolution compared with modern screens . . . . But functions perfectly well. Totally free after the initial purchase of the screen. The units that support Android Auto et al will require an account and need a subscription to make them work ? And maybe extra dosh for map upgrades ?
Hi guy's, Timothy what a great idea! I have ordered one! It costs only €190, = with discount! And payment can be done with PayPal! It's a perfect accessory to my Mehari, thanks for the tip! I forgot to say: no shipping costs! ❤
I don't have an Ami but thanks so much for making me aware of this device. I've bought one and thanks also for the discount code. Great well informed and honest review.
One appeal for me when I see a simple car as AMI is to add to it and to just add the things needed, I can't find AMI in Sweden so my interest is now a bit lower, but if I get one there will be a camera looking backwards or a 360 camera on the roof that can give me a satellite like view of the surrounding of the car... Then maybe a gps even I think I will not go to unknown areas with it, Im not as adventureus as you two arel
thanks Tim - great to know but am a purist and althogh I 'decorate' my Ami I prefer to keep it 'as i trbded' as stay local and just do short trips - wrote off m'bike and nearly killed myself looking at screen(s) on a long tiring trip and do not eish to repeat as faculties now going the way of anno domini - 70 in 2 weeks. However, great if you like that sort of thing but for local trips to shops ... ? Horses for Courses as they say... cheers for the 'heads up'.
I love the Citroen Ami! I wonder if this thing has android auto on it. I went to check out the discount link but my adblocker said that there were Viglink tracking cookies on it, so I'll pass
If you email them they correct it with a discount code! I had the same problem when I ordered from the link, first the discount disappeared 😉. But as I said, they get back to you the next day!
What about the hole behind the steering wheel? Is there some kind of extensible mount you can put in to have at a viewing level when you need it? That’s the only other place besides the dashboard where you could place it.
@@MeandMonAmi Upon reflection, I agree. If you still the need the fans, then the ceiling would be the best place for them to go and youd want to buy an adapter to plug in multiple devices in your power bank - the question then would be could you run them both at the same time? The dilemma is what’s more important if you can’t: convenience or comfort.
great review!...........Do you know of one that can be easily removed from the base? I wouldn't be able to leave it on dashboard like that. Someone would try to steal it.
Great video, I have the W903 and noticed that it runs quite hot! Just wondering if yours does too? This is colder weather here now and considered about hot summer days. Thanks for a very detailed video…
Hi what do you mean by it saying that you didn’t get any success by plugging it in with USB a ? Does it work with the usb port in the car with the adapter?
Didn’t work with my cigarette lighter adaptor but did work with usb a To usb c socket when I plugged it into a charger in the house and definitely works perfectly plugged into external powerbank using cigarette lighter plug
@@leafy9093 whether my adaptor is duff or not I don’t know but it is new and the unit powers on but then goes off which probably means not enough current? Certainly works with power bank and some of these even with cigarette lighter socket are pretty cheap now
@@MeandMonAmi Perhaps a weird question - there is an Ami Bluetooth gadget which allows remote control of the D-N-R switch. Do you think it's possible to redirect that to the W103? Some people may find this easier and safer than looking down beside the seat...
@@MeandMonAmi But I don’t need navigation at all and music is seldom on for I use my car only for small trips. I am also afraid that it will be stolen and I don’t want to take it home after every trip. That’s my personal view and I thinks it’s an wonderfull gadget for others!
I have to ask. Why don't you but a Three or Four Socket USB Hub? That way you can have your Fans on, The Carpuride on and and an extra One or Two things Plugged in. This was a very very Interesting Episode. When I get my Ami I would really consider buying one. When I wasn't using the Ami the Carpuride would be kept in my House. 🚙
I loved the moment of you saying about plugging it into the car stereo... in an Ami case an external speaker. Edit: rewatched it and got the question answered.
Hi MAMA ❤ Always good to catch up with you all. Just a thought 😇Had you actually called this episode "Turn your $10,000 car into a Tesla" (With an appropriate thumbnail) you could have double boosted the viewing ratings snd sub's👍Possibly! Or not as you choose! 😊 Great and honest video as usual ❤
The fans could be mounted on the ceiling if my suggestion isn’t a realistic one because space in the Ami is tight and there are few places to mount essential devices. Assuming of course, you’d keep the Carpuride.
There is an interesting connection between airplay and Vision pro headsets which apple just launched. They are both based on the realtime QNX system - used on thing like nuclear submarines - apples pinched (for huge wongo) the main programmers of QNX when blackberry (who bought them) shut down. The Max os OSx is just too slow for these Realtime stuff which multiple sensors and connections. So VisionPro OS uses a Realtime sub system based on QNX/Airplay.
have i ever...? actually no, tesla is an absolute nono since their boss went fascist. much more i expect the tesla owners to look jealously at me in my ami because i do not have this stink on me. i go with cute all the time instead of +built by mars autocrat+
Strange that had mine for 4 months with the exact same model faults on it sat nav drops out when there is no signal and you have to re-enter details Radio does not connect to WiFi If you switch the engine of you loose all details so you have to put everything back in only way you can stop that is if your 12v supply is on permanent Way to difficult to use says it mirrors your phone maps is nothing like what is on my phone Sent them a email to see if I set it up wrong guess what no reply definitely not plug and play shame has the unit looks well made
A really good post there Tim. This handy unit would be good in my little old smart car although I’d probably need an external mic due to the raucous noise from it’s Janspeed exhaust 🫨
