We’ve all seen this combo before. Rookie Mazdas at Summit Point Raceway in iRacing. This, however, will be my first ever attempt at the classic. In my quest to progress out of Rookies and earn my D license so I can start expanding my iRacing career, I’ll be getting back in the Mazda MX-5 which has so far guided me to a victory and 2nd place in my first two races. It’s not a bad run but can I keep the streak going at a circuit I’ve never driven before? Only one way to find out...

I love the "hello and welcome." Please don't change this. :D

That's been there for as long as I can remember and always will be 😎 I had a long thing about what to say for my intro when I first stated making videos a few years back and they all sounded too corny or forced. I guess I just got into the habit of this and it's just become a little more energetic over time, although some of the 'auto captions' can be hilarious some times 😂

I'll give you a lot of credit. You had a change on that last lap to repay the #3 and you didn't. I've seen too many that would have taken that opportunity. Good luck clearing the rookie series.

Honestly, the thought of revenge didn't even enter my head 👍 it's just not in the spirit of racing, you know. Perhaps something that was super casual or a fun event with friends, maybe yeah it would be _kinda_ acceptable with a funny comment made over the voice comms to back it up, but in iRacing (or any other 'professional sim' for that matter) it's a big no no. Things are going happen in these races which are completely out of my control and there's no point clinging onto them, best to just put it behind me and move on, salvage what I can 😉

Another iRacer you may want to check out is Dan Suzuki. Nice guy. He did a video on standing starts which is helpful.

Cheers Barry, I've heard a few people mention him since I've started doing iRacing videos but I've yet to check him out despite hearing nothing but positive things 👍

Nice drive & come back. not sure if you noticed but the car you were chasing at the finish,was the one that punted you off on lap one.
@DDFRacer
@DDFRacer 3 года назад
I didn't realise that until I was editing the footage later, but it sure would have been nice if I could have finished ahead of him to restore some balance to the universe 😉

Jeff Says Send It , unfortunate the other cars heard that by mistake and punted you into a different dimension. Good drive other than that, can tell you're quick. Nice overlays BTW.
@DDFRacer
@DDFRacer 3 года назад
Cheers Mr Watton! Glad you enjoyed the race mate, just need to get my head down and stay out of trouble for the next few races at least 😉 and as for the overlays, that's just me being a cheapskate not wanting to pay for Kapps 😂. Sure they might not have the same level of data but for what the viewer needs they should do the trick, no doubt I'll be tweaking and refining them for a while to come though, just like my rF2 and RaceRoom overlays...

As an observer that was infuriating to watch. Guy didn't even tap his brakes. But you handled it exceptionally well. I can't tell you how many hours of iRacing I've watched but there seems to be one of them in most races. Nicely done, DDF. Looking forward to see more of your races.
@DDFRacer

No point getting worked up and cranky about incidents like this because it doesn't really solve anything and probably just clouds your judgement, making you more prone to mistakes later in the race too 😉 best to just accept the fact it's happened, get your head down and get on with the race to salvage something, especially if it's only the first lap and there's plenty of time left.

Getting out of rookies is a pain but once you do it opens up a lot more content to jump into. There are some great series out there, multi class being the most chaotic but fun. Another iRacer to check out is Dave Cam. Really cool guy and has some videos on the iRacing channel as well.
@DDFRacer
@DDFRacer 3 года назад
Yep, big fan of Dave Cam, he actually helped me learn this circuit at short notice! I've seen his videos on and off for a few years but now they're actually relevant to me 😉

Oh wow what a mess with all the unsafe rejoins! Was certainly fun to follow your race though thanks to your great driving and good commentary. :D
@DDFRacer

I've realised that I need to keep my eyes wayyy down the road in these Rookie races and do my best to anticipate what *might* happen a lot more than usual. People can be unpredictable, especially when you haven't raced against them before and can't trust them to be sensible. This race certainly confirmed those beliefs 😉

IMO the guy who ran into you was out of control when he came back on the track and there wasn't really much you could have done. Moving over more MAY have worked, but you did leave enough room for him to rejoin if he was in control. You'll never be completely safe from others' mistakes/misfortune unless you stay in the pits. Thanks for sharing.
@DDFRacer
@DDFRacer 3 года назад
That last line of yours about staying in the pits hits home so true mate. When we do these races we accept the fact that things are going to go wrong at some point and no matter how careful or well prepared we are, sometimes we're just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I was rather fortunate that the suspension wasn't too badly trashed and I could carry on (with a slight limp though 😉) to make up a few spots towards the end.
@johnbrad181

Good comeback drive Dan. Unfortunate with the guy taking you out. When he was on the grass coming back on he was left hand down on the wheel it was just that the grass doesn't quite give you the same turn obviously. Interesting that you were the only rookie in that race as well. Keep em coming DDF
@DDFRacer
@DDFRacer 3 года назад
These things happen mate, sometimes you just can't avoid being caught up in someone else's incident. I'm really enjoying being able to instantly analyse the replay after the race and see what happened 👍 makes it super easy to quickly learn what to improve for next time. Also, good spot about me being the solo rookie, I hadn't noticed that one! Must have been a decent split 🤔 despite the antics...

13:40 ahaha, classic rookie move! good on ya for surviving, don't worry, it will all be over soon.

There were so many "no don't do that!" moments in this race that made it a lot more stressful than it needed to be 😅 but to make it from lap 2 to the finish without a scratch felt pretty good, even if there were a few close calls along the way! RIP to the guy behind me though, that was a heavy impact 😬

I don't think that the rejoin guy got off the throttle and pushed you aside like he was a snow plow. 😉 Keep it up 👍🏼
@DDFRacer
@DDFRacer 3 года назад
Yeaaah it was a little unfortunate but sometimes you just get caught up in other people's incidents and there's not much you can do about it. As long as I'm not the one causing the chaos then I'm happy 😅

Maybe its different in rookies but typically just finishing ahead of your car number (like finishing 11th as the #12) wont gain Irating. You need to finish around the top half of the field or your going to lose IR. Makes it really frustrating when you are at the bottom of top split.
@DDFRacer

Ah righto, thanks Brandon! It's a little vague as my rating doesn't show up until I get into D class so I have no idea how I'm going. I guess it's inconsequential at this stage since it's all about surviving and keeping it clean 🤔 but I'll keep that in mind for the future, thanks for the heads up mate.

Would you ever do an assetto corsa car cruise? I'm planning to do a cruise when I hit 50 subs - still a long way to go.
@DDFRacer
@DDFRacer 3 года назад
I'd never considered it before but that sounds like an awesome idea 😁 I'd be up for that! Keep up your work on the channel too, we all have to start somewhere, but as long as you look at what you can improve and make some quality content then you'll reach 50 before you know it 👍

Ah breaks don't work on iracing grass
@DDFRacer
@DDFRacer 3 года назад
I certainly didn't expect him to come back on track like that but if the brakes were just a mere suggestion because of the grass then that would explain it! One to keep in mind for myself should I find myself in that situation in the future 😬

I wonder if Toropov thought you nudged him causing him to go off and therefore thought it was fair to repay the favour. He's on a C licence with only 0.08 more safety rating. He also got 11 incident points and lost 0.12 safety rating in that race so that wasn't his only incident. One to be careful around if you come across him again.
@DDFRacer
@DDFRacer 3 года назад
That's quite a good point you make, there could have been some slight netcode going on which gave him a 'fake contact' and 0x although I'd like to think that nobody on track is of the mindset that retaliation is required. I'm pretty sure he binned it again towards the end of the race at the same corner so I imagine he was just pushing the limits of the car a little too much 🤔 definitely one to add to the watch list though.
